Maybe Cat-Tribe and Corneliu.. also Whittier, Marrakech and Keruvalia, I think.
I'm not really sure, though.. that's off the top of my head. Unless a thread is specifically about something that I am into, most of what I do couldn't be considered "debate," so certainly not me. My purpose is usually to judge claims made by whoever the OP is, which are usually a bit screwey. I'm usually just trying to learn something, if I can. The names I listed above are threadstarters who are usually honest or at least geniuine, if that helps. I'm not usually a "debater," although, ask me about gardening or goats or something like that, and we can probably argue! :)
Edit: If I'm the only one who answers seriously, I'm gonna feel like a giant douche.. :p

I know that feeling, but usually it's all in my head.
The Cat-Tribe is damn good at it, as is Melkor.
I am as well, but all the forum posting I've done over the years has really worn me out (so many huge, half-page-long and page-long posts on PC Gamer Online and GameFAQs).

That the exact same thing with me, also by the time I see any good debates they're either 50 pages long/have decended into a flame fest between Americans and Europeans/have decended into a personal chat between two overly friendly Ns'ers who should really get a room.
...Also the fact that I sulk when people proove me wrong doesn't engender a great debator in me.

Ithink "restrained" should be a factor aswel. So many times i've seen good debaters flamed or trolled and it brings them down to the idiot's level.
I definitely fall in to the "restrained" category. I don't think I've ever flamed, trolled, or even insulted anyone. I tend to stay calm, sometimes too much so. And my posts are always articulate, especially when responding to the poorly written posts by trolls (Jaba Huts, anyone? ;) ).

I'm going to mention Eutrusca as a good one so that this entire post isn't negative. I really want to hop on here and point out some people that I find mention of to be questionable.
Fass acts like he knows what he's talking about, but he ends up being proved incorrect far too often. I would say most of his respect comes from his ability to bullshit, not a sharp wit.
The Cat-Tribe's skilled at looking up the testimonies of others, but I often get the feeling that he does so because he can't explain his arguments on his own. I think he's good at making people think he knows what he's talking about.
Corneliu finds it necessary to cite his minimal credentials far too often. The points he makes are normally either reworded points that have already been made in that same thread or moot. I think he cites said credentials to compensate for his actual lack of ability.
Deleuze makes good points, but they are normally irrelevant to the debate or repeats. Maybe the repeats are just coincidence, but coupled with the irrelevance of his more original posts, I doubt it.
Aldranin is so much of a self-absorbed, obnoxious prick that only people who have agreed with him on previous points will be swayed by future arguments made against their cases. He does appreciate any endorsements he gets, however.

Fass Comes out and sticks to his guns ... usually fairly consistent in his arguments
The Cat-Tribe'Absolutely knows the legal field ... he sites relevant and powerful sources usually. His claims are backed up with fact but that tends to scare people away from the argument, finding contrary respectable sources are hard for others
Corneliu Tends to have some off the wall ideas sometimes and under represents but knows how he feels about things
Deleuze Tends to go off a bit from topic but usually fun to read through

Most Respected - Whispering Legs or Syniks or Fass or Neo Anarchists or Stephistan or Eutrusca or Colodia or Roshni or Myself (yeah, I respect me) and so on and so on and so on.
Most Honorable - Sinuhue
Most Reasonable - Dempublicents
Most Skillfull - Cat-Tribe

Most Respected - Eutrusca
Most Honorable - Sinuhue
Most Reasonable - The Cat-Tribe
Most Skillfull - Whispering Legs

Most Respected - Probably Cat-Tribe, though I am annoyed that he holds that position, what with all the truly decent debaters on this site. That's assuming you are referring to global respect, not individual respect.
Most Honorable - Honorable? What the hell are we, warriors of ancient lore? Honor has no place in debate, undercutting your opponent's credibility is half the fun.
Most Reasonable - I'm not sure anyone here is truly reasonable, unless you mean logical, and then I'd most definately say someone else but actually mean Aldranin.
Most Skillful - Eutrusca, but only because I don't want to write Aldranin. ;)
BAM!

Wow, it's me:
Capitalista is not always a wealthy fat cat; being a Capitalista is a state of mind rather than a reflection of affluence. A strident and extraordinarily self–satisfied Warrior, Capitalista takes every opportunity to extol the superiority of the free enterprise system and has a powerful aversion to the welfare states of Europe. Capitalista fiercely defends the market economy, bludgeoning “fuzzy-minded socialists” with Adam Smith, Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek. Though rather limited in his range of interests, Capitalista’s command of carefully selected historical facts, abstruse statistical comparisons and arcane economic theory make him a formidable foe.

While we're submitting new categories, I'm going to add Most Overrated, and grant The Cat-Tribe first place. What's the reward for Most Overrated, you ask? I take away one of the cookies you've received. Congratulations.
I appreciate the accolades I have received from some in these threads, but I generally could care less.
Aldranin, I'm not sure if you are someone's puppet or you are truly new to these forums.
If the former, I think using a puppet in order to be obnoxious is rather cowardly. If the latter, I think we have tangled in exactly 1 thread.
Regardless, I find your need to go out of the way to attack other posters, particularly me, rather amusing. To be honest, you don't register on my radar. Although I remember being vaguely annoyed and your taking the positions that crude, overbearing statements in favor of outrageous positions constitute debating, while any reference to facts, statistics, or sources was weakness.
I certainly don't care about your opinion of me -- except it strikes me as a mild badge of honor.
Yay! I managed to get myself mentioned one of these things. Partly a backhanded compliment, but I'll take it nonetheless.

I'm not a puppet, but my old name was incorrectly deleted, and when I bitched about it to the moderators they ignored me. I've debated with you on at least five or six topics. Not hiding, this is the only name I post as now. Also, I've read many threads you've debated in, I just haven't gotten into them.

I have no problem with facts, statistics other than polls, and relevant sources. In the one debate you are aware of that you engaged me in, your sources were laughably petty and irrelevant.

Holy crap, I leave for a bit and this thread turns into a semi-war...who's winning?
This was a long, angry rant before the edit. It can be summarized thusly:
I think Aldranin was being unfair, and if someone wants to check my post history to verify this, I'm confident they'll end up agreeing with me. However, the complimentary part of his/her post did make me happy. So Aldranin, when you criticize me, give me evidence - or at least tg it to me. But please, don't irrationally attack me in a forum that's supposed to be a big hug for everyone, not a petty spat. Thanks.

I'll vouch for Deleuze, he's generally pretty 'with it,' as far as I can tell and since I've been one of his cheif debating opponents as of late, I think I'm in a pretty good position to know. I don't think I've ever seen him get off topic; in fact he's one of the few people that actually understands the entirety of my rants; he's the only one I've been able to get really philosophical with so far.
Still, everyones' collective lack of faith disturbs me. I'm not mentioned nearly enough!

I thought everyone assumed you'd be on the list, so that's why I didn't mention you. But on that topic:
Before I started talking to Melkor, Objectivism to me was synonymous with joke with me and some of my friends. But he's really gotten me to take it seriously and see that there's a significant degree of intellectual rigor and strength in the idea, no small feat with someone as obstinate as me. Most Respected: Cat Tribe
Most Honorable: Not sure what is meant here.
Most Reasonable: Bodies without Organs
Most Skillful: Stephistan and Greenmanbry share this one
Honourable mentions go to Deleuze, The Holy Womble, QahJoh, and the person I undoubtedly forgot.

I certainly don't care about your opinion of me -- except it strikes me as a mild badge of honor.
My feeling on this is, I have always thought what other people think of me is really quite frankly none of my business. (If that made sense to you) It certainly will not change anything I say or do. It will impact my life less than zero and I shall sleep as well as I do every night.
I don't really know you Cat-Tribe, but I have read quite a few of your posts and in your style you remind me a little of my husband in your research (when he was Zeppistan) So that IS a compliment.
I wouldn't worry about what "others" think. People like to see people fail and hate to see a winner, especially if they're not one. At least this has been my experience. ;)

Oh, come on, you can do better than to quote a movie that doesn't know whom to attack (though it did a pretty entertaining job at that). In my opinion, personal attacks, such as linguistic skills, don't do any real good in a debate. There's little way for me to prove I speak fluent English.

Yes, it does... that Cat-Tribe has been around for much longer. The entirety of my posts, counting my old name that the moderators screwed up and deleted, is less than a thousand, and under my current name I've only made 330 posts or so, thus people shouldn't know me, though I appreciate the small following that I've already acquired with my new series.

A couple of points:
One: we do not delete people for UN multis. You must have been doing something else too. Ejection from the UN is the norm for multis because there's always the possibility that it actually is more than one person at the computer in question. Either you were doing something else at the time or you had a previous warning.
Two: It is wildly unlikely that you weren't multi-ing if we ran a UN check and found matches.
That said, Aldranin, I would highly reccommend choosing your words more carefully in this thread; I haven't seen anyone formally complain yet but your badgering people is getting old.

Okay, I'm lying. Because claiming to have 500 posts on another name that I haven't even said really does something for my argument.

Apologies. Though I thought I have been choosing my words carefully - I haven't actually insulted anyone in this thread other than Upward, but that was provoked. Sorry if the situation is otherwise.

I did nothing to provoke it and even if I did it really still would not be acceptable if it fell in flame troll or flame baiting territory

Yes, you provoked it. You may not have intended to, but you sure as hell did. A mock of my post with all of the descriptions changed except the one I made for myself seems a lot like "asking for it" to me.

I did not even mean to leave yours in but it happened
You created it and I added nothing to your description that you did not already post about yourself.
Even so provocation is not an excuse on the forum … while rude I did not find your behavior worthy of a report hence the no formal complaint so I tried to let you know that maybe it was just a mix up on the sometimes impersonal internet we have here yet you continue to deride other posters as well as myself.
LOL!!! I am dying over here. All the personal insults that started flying when debaters' names started being mentioned is utterly priceless. Looks like a lot of old wounds got ripped open. Very entertaining.
My own picks for good debaters are Corneliu, Dobbsworld (even though he and I disagree a lot), Cat-tribe (I love reading his arguments), Sinuhue, Achtung 45 and Carnivorous Lickers.
If I missed anyone, it's because I've only really had deep enough exchanges with the aforementioned folks.

What the heck is flamebaiting, then?
Anyway, I had dropped it, I really don't care whether you meant to piss me off, my post after that was meant to be humorous, you got defensive about it and the shit hit the fan. I'm done with the matter. I'm actually going to nominate Sdaeriji for a few reasons-
I've said this before, but I don't think even he noticed. Reminds me of a friend of mine, complete with some of the same manerisms. That comes through in his 'reserve cannon' style of debate. He's not neccisarily a 'sourcer' but rather someone who points out miss-steps in the logic of a conclusion or, and this is where he excells, calls people on their personal bullshit. I think it's that he is a social poster and quasi-lurker and does a good job of sorting the patterns of posters so when someone makes a claim about themselves ("I'm noble.") he's on top of it. It is something I try to do because I don't really have the research at my finger tips and 'bullshit' bothers me more than anything. If Bottle is the rock star of this, then Sdaeriji is at the very least the opening act.

I think all of us could strive to do better. Even Cat throws in the occasion "Sparky" or related snarky comment. I try very hard to make my snarky comments amusing, but I'm not sure I always pull it off. If I can achieve that balance, I would be a happy man. I wish I could tell you that I've noticed the same about you, but to be fair, you haven't registered much on my radar, good or bad, until today. Now, it's easy to say that you like a poster who compliments you, but I have to say that it's not the compliment that impresses me. I am always impressed by people who come to the forum in the hope of better expressing themselves rather than pwning someone with thinly-veiled flames. As I said earlier, we all slide at times, but if everyone had your attitude the forums it certainly would improve the average quality of forum debate. There are a few that I am forgetting but they won't care anyway.

If people mention Corneliu, then Canuck Haven gets my vote.
Thank you for the nod. :)
I generally try to avoid these threads like the plague, due to the fact that they invariably end up as a popularity type thread and/or ego feeding/bashing ritual. There are many great posters here and I have enjoyed some lively discussions with them and against them.
I generally save personal accolades for the threads as they progress, by simply stating....Great post!! :) , and as I recall, I remember singling you out a few times, as I do enjoy most of your posts.
The best posters are the ones who are willing to back up their posts with reasonably thought out dialogue backed by facts, when required. Anyone can have an opinion but the skilful debaters will have done enough research to back up their opinions.
Carry on......

I would also like to add Super-Power.
Honestly, I sincerely hope that good posters don't post here to receive accolades or to 'win' arguments, but instead to better form their opinions, educate, debunk and the like. Because of this, rather than give accolades for form and content, I'll instead say that there are several posters here that have helped me seeing different views and have better educated me on views I already held. Some just pointed me to issues I hadn't really thought about. I'm not going to name those posters, but let it be known that those of you are here to do what I said in the latter part of the first sentence, you are appreciated and you should keep up the good work. To those of you who are just here to do what I said in the earlier part of the first sentence, I appreciate you as well. I thoroughly enjoy watching you get pwned.
