56.5% of the voters of Luxembourg endorsed the EU Constitution.
Luxembourg has the EU's highest GDP per-capita.
Too little, too late for saving the constitution, I think.

I really don't think that's going to save it.

Maybe it won't save the Constitution, but it definitely sends a clear pro-European message to the reast of Europe!
Merci, Luxembourg :D

The country of Luxembourg was accidentally created when one cartographer spilled his tea on the map and thought it was a nation, other cartographers following as well.
Since then, they've been pretty much the best country in the world. But only because their country is roughly 3 square kilometers, with a population of 10.
I think the EU is going to need more than the political midget of Luxembourg in order to get the Constitution passed.

Are you talking about the same Luxembourg that used to rule most of europe back in the old days of karl the great? A lot of the following "german" emperors where in fact luxembourgers... ;)
But I too think that our vote will not be enough to help the constitution (at least I hope so, because I voted against it) and anyway, it was more about keeping our prime minister than about actually voting this damn already dead constitution...

I read the history of Luxembourg:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Luxembourg
In the past, it's been part of France, been part of Germany, and half was part of Belgium. Basically, it's been tossed around like a prison bitch. Now it's economically tied to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Well, but it's still the richest country in the world...

PER CAPITA.
If Bill Gates bought an island and named it, "Microsoftembourg", even if he was the only person living on it, it would be the country that has the highest GPD per capita. It's rich because it's small and recieves benefits from the Netherlands and Belgium.
But I'd be interesting in hearing about Luxembourg's "army." And their "intelligence agencies."

I'm sure that Switzerland is the richest country in the world whilst Luxembourg is the richest in the EU.

Okay, I'll explain this again. With wealth, you have the TOTAL (total GDP) and the AVERAGE (GDP per capita).
Switzerland's and Luxembourg's citizens are on average wealthier than other citizens. That simply means that the wealth you do have is more evenly divided between less people.
However, Switzerland and Luxembourg has significantly less TOTAL wealth than countries like America, Russia, or China. That means that we have lots more wealth, but we have more people to divide it up among.
So, calling Switzerland and Luxembourg "the wealthiest" is decieving. It's like saying one bank is the wealthiest because 10 "rich people" that make millions go there, and their average client makes millions.
But a bank that has 10 million people with different incomes, both low and high, would have a lot more money than a bank that only has 10 rich people. Got it?

I'm luxembourgish and therefore I know that we have the biggest GPD per capita. That's what I meant when I wrote that we where the richest country in the world. And by the way, the luxembourgisch GPD is bigger than the swiss.
