Am I the only one who doesn't give a...? Part II

I think I'm going to start a special Aldranin series called "Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit?" Well, you may have seen my post on frying child molesters - if not, I'm sorry - in which I expressed my extreme not giving a shit about the problems pedophiles face when they get out of prison. It originated from Paula Zahn, a really cool news show on CNN that is totally void of bias, obviously. Anyway, this thread is about something more at home with the people that post here: Fox bashing.

Most people on this site can agree that Fox is quite biased in the way they tell the news, which is true enough. Almost as many will say that Fox is one of the most biased news channels, period. And a few cracked-out radicals will even tell you that Fox is actually going to be the death of America.

Now, I could act like some elitest prick and cite some random example that most people probably haven't seen so that the opposition is automatically at a disadvantage, but I would rather allow everyone a chance to put in their two cents on this thread, so I'll cite something that almost everyone must have seen: election day coverage. Take MSNBC's awesome coverage of the last election, for instance. Whereas even CNN had to admit that Bush was kicking the piss out of Kerry in the electoral college by around thirty votes, MSNBC had them neck-and-neck up until the very end, trying to convince voters that there was still a chance so that more people would get out and vote. That, or the people at MSNBC are retarded, and couldn't figure out what the other two big news stations could - but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was intentional.

What's my point? That's old fuckin' news.

My point is this: these days, all news is biased, and it's not like Fox was the first to spin their reporting. Stations like CNN and MSNBC do it just as often every single day. So, what's the big deal when Fox does it? What's the problem with the conservative side of the political spectrum getting their opinions into the news in an attempt to balance out the degree of bullshit? And, most importantly:

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit?

Seriously, if everybody spins, why the hell does Fox get the shitty end of the stick on the matter? Why do people care so much more when Fox does what everyone else also does?

Anyway, there you go, I'm hitting the sack in an hour, tops, so bitch until then, I might reply if you're worthy of my awesome pimpitude, and I'll return whenever I decide to wake up Saturday to clear shit up.

Because Fox, unlike other news stations, makes it a point to attack all of the others as being part of the "Liberal media" conspiracy, while proclaiming to be the only "fair and balanced" news source.

Wrong morally. But capitalisticly oh so sexy and horny and worthy of mast-...

....WHAT?

Look. Only way I can describe why it's alright for Fox to do it is in that way considering it is 12:05 AM.

I think it's because Fox is so blatantly biased, but tries to pretend it isn't. Its reporting is very slanted. Its (for want of a better word) talking heads, such as O'Reilly, directly attack the left. Yet Fox brazenly declares that it's "fair and balanced."

Fox actually tells it's people to fuckin' spin. It's not like they hide it. Information about Fox can be found easily on the web at all sorts of Fox conspiracy theory websites and shit if you really care that much. Besides, all of the big news channels have bullshit slogans that paint their news as accurate and unbiased. For instance, I think CNN's current slogan (but don't quote me) is something along the lines of "The Most Trusted Name in News." What message does that send, honestly? When using that slogan, do they actually mean to say, "People that vote on our website trust us the most," or do they mean to convey the message that, "Our shit is totally accurate, just trust us?" Be honest now, with yourself and with me. All news stations are bullshit. Get over it.

By the way, if you're going to go with the former, then you also have to apply that to Fox's slogan, by the exact same line of reasoning, because what they could mean by it, if you want to be completely daft, is "The people that watch us agree that we are the most fair and balanced news station."

If you look beyond the fact that you agree with a station, it is very easy to spot them as being just as blatantly biased, while, as I posted in my reply to Shubb, they are just as quick to paint themselves as honest and trustworthy.

Okay, first of all, don't fuck with my slogan. I don't give a shit; that's much more profound. Second of all, I don't care that Fox does it, specifically, which is what I said, because everyone else does it, too.

To clarify: I'm not saying that I don't give a shit that the news is biased, if you actually read my post; I'm saying that I don't give a shit that one of the channels is biased when all the others are, as well. I think they're all equally stupid and biased.

I haven't noticed/seen the CNN "most trusted" thing, so I can't really comment on it.

Last time I watched Fox, it had a "fair & balanced" logo in the corner of the screen the whole time, interspersed with a flag graphic. I don't remember seeing that sort of thing on the BBC, or the local Australian news.

I didn't read what you said because I didn't care. Kinda appropriate.

Nor can I come up with any witty response for that comment of yours. Except that it isn't a very good series if it cannot live up to its own title. Mmhmm.

I'm pretty sure it's their official slogan, and on pretty much every CNN commercial here in America.

I don't watch either BBC or Australian news. I could lie and say that this is because I prefer to watch the big three here, but honestly it's because I am your generic American prick that doesn't give a shit about what you guys say on your news stations, because I doubt that it's much different. However, from what I've heard about the BBC, it's quite biased, as well - no CSPAN, that's for sure. I know a bunch of Brits from my Call of Duty days, so I have talked to a few people about it. Find out what channel it is on Time Warner, I'll watch it for an hour, and then post everything biased that I notice about it. Fair? If not, I don't care; take it or leave it.

Conservatives have Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Fox News. Which one of the mentioned things is most likely to garner more attention from the liberals? Fox News. It's there, so they bash it.

Wouldn't have a clue what channel it is on Time Warner, is that a cable TV network?

I'm not saying that the BBC or other news channels aren't biased. Fox is the only one that I've seen (excluding CNN at this stage) that is so overtly biased, yet repeatedly & explicitly tries to tell it's veiwers that it's not biased.

I can't say much about Fox news, since I don't get it in Germany. All I have is CNN int'l and BBC World, English-wise. There's a couple German news channels, but I don't really watch those. What I do make sure to watch is the news on the German publicly-funded channels, which is quite reliable. What they say is usually similar to what CNN and BBC show, but I make sure to compare the three sources.
The only thing I can say about Fox news is that people I respect that have seen it tell me that it's a bunch of propagandistic bullshit not worth the air time.

Ahhh, okay, I see what you're saying. Does the BBC not have a catch phrase or slogan of some sort? Maybe it doesn't - maybe it doesn't try to hide it's bias, perhaps the foreigners still haven't screwed up their news like we have.

Yeah, that's the difference as I see it. Every news channel has its bias, it's probably impossible not to.

The BBC gives the news in its style & lets you make up your mind.

Fox gives the new in its style, then says (to paraphrase) "we have no bias, we are completely fair to all." It's totally dishonest.

I personally prefer Fox news' bias, as it matches my own, but I usually get stuck with CNN, 'cause it's the most reliable (in my humble opinion) news channel that my stupid C-band satellite dish picks up.

I just think it is very worrying how much conflict of interest there is in Fox.
Now, I don't know how CNN works (I assume BBC is still public?), but I do know that the bigwigs in Fox have very clear-cut political interests (and business interests) that seem to influence everything you get out of Fox. Moreso than in any other station.
But seeing how many people say "all news is biased", it is obvious that the concept of a "news broadcast" is going down the drain anyways...

I mentioned that in the starting post, if I remember right. All news stations do this to an extent, of course; because they are businesses, after all. Fox seems to be the only one that doesn't care how many people know that.

But seeing how many people say "all news is biased", it is obvious that the concept of a "news broadcast" is going down the drain anyways...

Exactly. At least here in the United States. Now I don't know whether this is global, as Boony pointed out that the BBC doesn't bullshit its viewers with an untrue advertising slogan like Fox, CNN, and MSNBC do.

well no i dont give a damn about fox news because i dont watch it. why would anyone watch it who doesnt already agree with it?

ive only really been exposed to it twice, both times at my car dealership when the car needed a bit of service. the first time it was running some anti-kerry story that cried out for a bit of "is this story true?" that never happened. the second time, more recently, i ignored it but a woman in the room got so upset over its bush/iraq coverage that she went into a spontaneous rant to no one in particular--she just started ranting like a crazy woman.

ive never seen anyone have that kind of reaction to CNN which is often playing in the airport or other places where people might watch a bit of casual news.

If I have your eyes closed and they're reporting NEWS (not opinion like O'reilly or Crossfire), I can't tell the difference between FOX, CNN, or MSNBC. As news outlets, they're all the same generic news.

It's the opinion spots that make a station liberal or conservative.

I could tell four times out of five fairly easily - it's the way stations say certain things, and what they cover, and how often. But I'd have to listen to it for an hour or so to be sure, if all they're doing is showing the news update.

Tomorrow morning (Sunday, about 9am EST), get up and turn on C-SPAN. Watch for about an hour while the moderator reads news stories out of the major papers and people call up with opinions.
The moderator, BTW, never gives an opinion on a subject, he or she just reads it from the paper (NY Times, Washington Post, Chicago Sun, whatever...).

Rules:
1) Put the remote on the other side of the room, out of reach.
2) You can only get up out of the chair during commercials.

It's *amazing* to listen to how wacky people are... from both sides of the spectrum.
