Who are you?

Hey, I just figured we should have a thread where we just all post a little bit about ourselves. So I guess you can kinda follow my format, or do whatever you want.

I'm Johnny, and I'm from Chula Vista, California (suburb of San Diego). I'm 15 but I'll be 16 in a couple months... I'm gonna be a Junior come September.. fun stuff. I'm in this band, Emilio y the Meats. We're probably the second biggest band at our school, so I think we could become at least somewhat big at least in the so-cal punk scene. We're punk rock, but with a straight edge twist, and we're kinda thrashy I guess. Closest thing to us would be Minor Threat, who is our biggest musical influence, but my vocals (yeah, I'm the singer, lol) are kind of like the guy from In Controls vocals, if you've ever heard them. Uh.. Obviously, I'm into punk and hardcore stuff. Minor Threat, Verse, Champion, Stay Gold... Then more metalcore stuff like HeavenShallBurn, Caliban, Killswitch Engage, and Neaera... and lately I've gotten into some grindcore/death metal like Cattle Decapitation and Mortification... And of course, some D-beatish stuff like Skitsystem and Discharge... Politically, I'm pretty centrist, kinda liberal, but conservative too. On civil rights and all that nice stuff I'm for the most part, but on foreign policy I'm conservative. On the economy I'm pretty much in the middle I guess. Other than music and the band, I basically like hanging out with my friends, but I don't go to parties, because, 1, I'm not a popular kid, and 2, I wouldn't want to cuz I know at parties people just get drunk or high and I'm not into that stuff. So most of the time, I'm pretty much sitting around the house, doing practically nothing. lol. Or I'm just with some of my good friends, doing nothing. Ahahaa... OK shoot, I guess that's all I'm thinking of. Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else.

Now you guys, tell me about yourselves!

Yon-Darth Taveïs the Foeslayer, Lord Czardas, Supreme Ruler of the Universe at your service here, aka Blazer, aka Aculgor Kestania...a mysterious, much-maligned, musical, and exceedingly conceited figure, omnipresent on the forums, ruler of everything, and even (by some strange coincidence) mistaken for Max Barry.

Where does he live? Where did he come from? Why is he here? How old is he? The answers to those questions are unknown, though some smartass has proposed "42" for all of them.

What does he do for a living? Nothing. Or everything. He rules the universe. Is that not enough?

What does he look like? He has submitted a description of himself for you: exceedingly tall, clad in a long black cloak falling to the ground, hooded, his face black. Red eyes pierce the gloom beyond his hood. His hands are like long white branches, clawed with steel nails. His voice...naught but a whisper echoing throughout the sanctuary whence he rules.

In short... *extends hand* ...I'm your average NSer. Pleased to meet you. *shakes hand* ;)

Hi, I'm Lunatic Goofball. Despite my name, I have actually spent very little time in mental hospitals. I keep escaping. :p Being an amateur escape artist when I was younger has given me great skills at picking locks and escaping from straitjackets. Believe me, if you are planning to be a demented wacko, learn some basic escapes. *nod*

Also, if they manage to catch and hold you, remember that they can only hold you for more than seventy-two hours if you demonstrate that you are a threat to yourself or others. If you are polite, friendly and functional, they will let you go even if you're stark raving mad. :D Marry a cop. It has done loads to help keep me out of trouble.

I'm a professional clown and I work part-time as a blackjack dealer. My hobbies include: Behaving oddly, Rugby, Football, Paintball, Chess, Reading, Seeing movies, Kicking groins and playing in mud. Every second monday, I visit the children's hospital near my home and entertain the sick children with some clowning. My greatest joy is making people laugh. My greatest annoyance are people who take things(especially politics) too seriously yet won't volunteer their time to make their world a little better.

I have a wife that puts up with me because I make her laugh and a fourteen month old son who makes us both laugh.

My goal is for people to look back on my life and be amazed that I never did drugs. :)

Hi! My real first name is Hugo. I an 31 and married since last August. I live in Rimouski, in north-eastern Quebec province (Canada). Got a very nice ocean view, forest in the backyard, and a very peaceful neighborood. By the way, there is no police department in the region and almost no crimilality (provincial highway patrol comes to say hello once every 1-2 weeks, I think -- not sure).

Work? I have a Master's Degree in artificial intelligence (you can find my research papers on the Internet, author "H. Dufort"). But I work as a Technical Translator English-->French, proofreader (French) and Technical Writer in R&D. I also happen to have published in a few haiku books, including one in English ("Sun through the blinds", Shoreline Press).

I used to work in natural language processing (NLP) and data extraction, but I got bored/tired of the constant pressure, programming woes, database chokes. I like the idea of being self-employed.

I like almost all kinds of alcohol, including: red wine from any origin, white wine, Scotch, Canadian Whisky, strong alcohols, many kinds of beers (North American and European), and so on. I'm not very fond of mixes, although I like strong shooters. About food, I like anything from everywhere, from Indian to Tex Mex, from Sushi to grilled steak, including Brazilian food, tapas and pickled herring.

I like strategy/simulation games, both board and computer, such as Risk, Age of Empires, Starcraft, and so on. I kinda like Sim City but get bored too fast. I also used to play a few RPG including Meridian 59, Nexus and Earth & Beyond. I don't play much these days

I buy/read maybe 20 science fiction or fantasy books per year, and I need to buy a 5th bookshelf because I buy my own books! In terms of music, just consult another recent thread and you'll get the answer. Oh and BTW, I used to be kinda "alt.metal", played basse in a garage band called "The Hopeless"... but that was 12 years ago... and our band didn't last very long...

PS: My political involvements include being member of the PQ, and helping to organize the press conference for the Montreal Afghan community after 9/11. I am also *generally* anti-war, call me a leftist, and I recycle+compost.

Hello, my name is Daniel/Danny/Dan/Richard and I live in the North of England near a village called Affetside. There's not much in Affetside, other than a Roman Road, a famous duck, and the odd fact that the village is exactly half way between London and Edinburgh. Im almost 16 and i'm studying hard (not)for my GCSEs next year. I used to play rugby, but gave up and now spend my time going to Manchester with friends. Everyone here seems so much more interesting than me...
Im Roman Catholic, because my great grandfather was irish. I like Chinese food, which is why I go to Manchester really... and my skin is so pale that sunlight is painful. I write occasionally for the local newspaper, although that stopped recently. My parents want me to become a doctor, but I spend far too much time on this now to do any work. Its so sodding addictive. I did a family tree recently and found out that my mothers family is evil and my fathers family are slightly more evil and so I tend to use that as an excuse.

Hey, I'm replying though there's not much to me!

I'm a Canadian who is living in Japan and teaching English. I get homesick sometimes but I'm having a great time. At heart I'm a country girl...I can drive a tractor (heehaw), shoot skeet (badly) and dance at all night at a barn party (hoe down!). I don't think I'm a redneck but I confess that I have gotten some sun back there.....
I got a degree in English Lit. and Education and I plan to teach elementary when my feet stop itching. I'm engaged to a great guy and we're planning to tie the knot in Las Vegas (Elvis is not invited). I have a tight knit family and no wacked childhood to complain about...it was all doting parents and wide open spaces and even a fair share of puppies and ponies and all that jazz.
I'm not weird or different...not even remotely original but I know lots of people who are and they keep me neck deep in laughs in good times. I've been a lucky girl (touch wood) and I've enjoyed reading what everyone else has had to say. On that note, hope I haven't nauseated you all too much and have a good one.

(hmm reminds me of those AA meetings...... ;))

hi my name is Huw, i'm 20 and right now i'm back living with my parents. yay.
actually i like em a lot so its ok :)
anyways i live in Southampton, the San Francisco of the south of England (;)) but was born in Watford (just north of London) and my family comes from Wales (dad's side) and Germany/Poland/Norway (mum's side). apparently we are related to the Norweigan royal family but that doesn't sway my political affiliation, largely cos i really couldn't care any less.
my parents have always done a great job providing for me, for which i am forever thankful, dispite the hard times they've been through - particularly caused by some very greedy and self-important people, and the conservative government engineered recession of 1992. dispite this i went to a pretty decent private primary school in Winchester (where we used to live, about 20 miles from Southampton), and then to a 450 year old selective private school, in Southampton itself, called King Edward VI School. we relocated to the city in 96 when i started going to the school
during my time there i discovered that formal education doesn't sit well with me, ending up in trouble and under daily report in the 2nd year. by the 3rd year the threat of expulsion had temporarily turned me around and i became one of the top students in the year, being beaten by only a couple of merits to the top place year prize and gaining a special disctinction thingymabob. this wasn't to last however as by the time i finished GCSE's i was already starting to realise i just don't give a shit about any of this, and by A-levels i was just scraping through doing just enough to not get into trouble. somehow i got 6 A grade GCSE's and 5 B's, which isnt' bad. A-levels were somewhat worse with an A in Economics, B in Physisc, B in ICT (a fucking joke subject that), C in Biology and D in Chemistry.
i decided to take up Economics as a degree and dispite my teachers wanting to send me off for some kind of special post A-level, pre-uni diploma thing in the subject, i went straight to Cardiff Business School (voted #1 business school in the country by the Economist magazine for the last 5 years or so), which was my first choice.
the subject turned out to be quite different from what i was used to and good at (i never did a jot of work for the economics a-level but still got a close to 100% A grade :D). at uni it was far more abstract and maths-related, and i couldn't deal with it. before the part 1's i changed degree to Politics - something i'm very glad i did as i failed that first year and had i not changed then i would have had to re-apply through UCAS.
i took Politics this last year and while interested, i developed depression, motivational problems, and attempted suicide once, resulting in a troubled year. i also turned from a recreational marijuana smoker into a habitual pothead and through hating myself, tried to develop some form of new identiy for who i am... and that turned out to be a pothead. not the best of unconcious choices. however the year probably did go better than the year of economics, though i am waiting for the results still.
so i've basically had it pretty easy. something for which i'm most grateful.
this coming year, whether i pass or not, i'm planning to quit uni and work for my parents (started already) as a graphics designer/artworker/webmonkey/etc, but also learn and be an apprentice for my dad as he does business consultancy, so i can learn new skills. in time i will take on my own projects inside the company, too
after a year or two i intend to go back to uni and perhaps take a degree in Architecture.

thats my history. a couple of things i've left out: first off, i'm moderatley dyslexic though i have had extensive private coaching to counteract this. secondly i used to swim a lot, at city and county level and was enetered into a national gala once or twice. unfortunatley following catching a nasty disease from capcising a boat (i used to sail, too) by a sewage works that knocked me out for 3 months or so; and then breaking my arm badly in a car crash some months later, i was pretty much forced to quit. by the time i had recovered from all that i was weaker and just out of shape. since then i've put on weight like crazy and am now about 15 stone (5ft 11)... so not good really. ah well.

as for my political views: those who know me here will know where i stand ;)
the fact that my family, in my lifetme, has been on both sides of the rich/poor divide (we used to live in a goddamn mansion in Winchester) is humbling, and gives light to why i think the simple pursuit of money and material aquisition in the pursuit of happiness is plain stupid. the hubling aspect is that rich people are just that - people, not intrinsically better than the poor in any way. they are not to be reveered for their wealth, and many don't exactly get to their position by being nice, freindly or warm people, to put it mildly. some do, of course, but many, many do not. many step and shit on whoever gets in their way in the pursuit of their personal goals.
hence one of the reasons i distrust rich (and overly ambitious) people.
that said both my parents were the children of farm labourers who worked hard for what they had/have. one of the main reasons i see no merit in clinging to silly notions like heratige, tradition or nationalism.
on my mother's side her family were, before the war, wealthy aristocrats in Germany. after the war they were reduced to ex-PoW farm labourers. just goes to show that wealth and positions of power and/or presteige are nothing more than artificial constructs that are only valid if others are foolish enough to give weight to that sort of thing.
like i often say: "gold has no value but that placed upon it"

i enjoy watching movies, music (production and listening), photography (dad used to work with a lot of pros so i know a few tricks ;)), writing, cooking, the occasional videogame, and a bit of reading (when i can find time...)

also a big thanks to a number of regular NSers for keeping me sane and from doing bad things back in december/february of this year - to those who are no longer here (Peechie, Tink, Oksana, TIN, others i'm sure) and many who are still here - you know who you are.
i hate making lists of people cos i always feel like i've left some people who really deserve to be there out... quite probably have. if so, sorry! :fluffle:

i think that'll do for info! sorry for the long post but i've been waiting here for someone for the last half hour, so i'm pretty bored! :p

My name's Giuseppe, but I go by Joe or Joey because I can't stand people mispronouncing my name. I'm 30. I live in New Jersey, USA. I've had an interesting life so far, and luckily for me it's gotten more routine and normal lately.

What do I mean by interesting? From my junior year of high school until I was about 25 I'd been involved in petty crime. I've dealt drugs and been muscle for my drug supplier. We thought we were bad ass gangsters back then. I've been in Mercer county jail, which doubles as a medium security state facility. Now I work for a small telecom company as an "accounts manager". Basically a bullshit title that means I'm a salesman, an accounts recievable guy, and a basic customer service lackey.

I have had the good fortune to study martial arts at Princeton Academy of Martial arts. I studied Lee Jun Fan gung fu, Phillipino Kali, Indonesian Pentjak Silat, Mixed Grappling, Machado family Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and used to box a bit. I took a few Muay Thai classes but I didn't enjoy Muay Thai. I no longer have time to attend all those martial arts classes and that really sucks.

I enjoy stand up comedy, and have seen Lewis Black, Dave Attel, Dave Chapelle, and Mitch Hedberg live. I like several different kinds of music including Punk, Industrial, Metal, Bluegrass, some Country, and Classic Rock. I'm a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and every Thursday night I get together with some of my friends there to play Golden Tee and have a few drinks. I like fishing, particularly for bass. I enjoy reading and watching movies as well.

I am an Australian who pretended to sell high-end computer systems for Hewlett-Packard while secretly writing my first novel, Syrup. In fact, I still have the laptop I wrote it on because HP forgot to ask for it back, but keep that to yourself. I put an extra X in my name for Syrup because I thought it was a funny joke about marketing and failed to realize everyone would assume I was a pretentious asshole. Jennifer Government, my second novel, was published without any superfluous Xs and sold much better.

To help promote my novels, I wrote the online political game NationStates, which has been played by over half a million people and is currently causing me to drown in e-mail from people who want new features. My third novel, Company, will be published in 2006.

I was born March 18, 1973, and live in Melbourne, Australia, where I write full-time, the advantage being that I can do it while wearing only boxer shorts.

Hello, I'm Erica, a 22-yr old golf-obsessed Canadian film student. I love to golf, and also snowboard. I've turned both loves into professions - I've taught snowboarding for over 6 years, and currently manage the clubhouse of a small but rapidly growing golf course in southwestern Ontario. I'm also taking classes in golf course management by correspondence and am hoping to next year get a job at a larger, private club in my area (London, Ontario: the (unofficial) golf capital of North America. Seriously.).
I love to read and go to the movies, as well as spend time with my boyfriend and my family. I frequent the TYW forums daily. I play softball and I ski once in a while.
