Anyone here ever create a website that was listed as Google's #1 result if you typed just 1 word?
If so, #1 out of how many total results?
And is it up so we can still see?
In my instance, #1, out of 10,200, the name of my NationStates nation...

By the way, searching for "http://yourwebaddresshere" doesn't exactly count...although it'd only be 1 out of 1...so whatever...

Yeah, my nation comes up first for "Sdaeriji". I'd be baffled if it wasn't first.

You didn't create that site though...
The top result for searching my nation name is a site that I, with 2 other people, created (and continuously work on) completely outside of NationStates.
Besides... only 208 hits when I search for your nation's name.

Odd, yours does show up when I click your link. It also now shows up when I search myself for it.
Maybe I simply missed it before or something? I don't know.

I don't know...but that site you linked was the old #1 when you searched "unblogged"
I'm not sure when we took over #1...but it's sort of an accomplishment, especially considering 10,200 results...
Now just to take over other keywords...

Hmm, well, I can tell NSers have taken note of my sig, which displays the address as well...as I've gotten an influx of British and Canadian hits...oddly enough though, Canada has yet to overtake Bolivia...
I've never created a website; however, it comes in first in a search for "The Website That Never Exists, Never Existed, and Never Will Exist" without quotes. :p ;) :D

I think your site is at the top if you search WITH quotes...that is until Google crawls this section of the NS section and puts Jolt Forums above your site...
All the time, as I'm a web designer/developer by profession. If I want $5k for submitting a site, optimizing it and doing the obvious-- then I'll take the whole 10 hours or so a year to get them there. Although it only takes about 60 days to rule a keyword or two on the SE's, you have to tweak it to get there.
So many myths exist, and it's so simple, I crack up at most peoples ineffectual ideas of how to achieve their own online marketing objectives.
Here's a big professional secret I'm willing to share... Start by submitting (in the right way, by the rules) the site to DMOZ.
Because the site is only included if a real-live-human-being accepts it, Google automatically gives you a permanent PageRank of fucking 4 during the next crawl!
You can sell any site with a PR of 4 or above easily for $1000, regardless of traffic stats or content.

You're still not the creator of these #1 search hits? o.O... Just wondering if that's right.

Are you referring to me, or someone else? (Names really help if you can't be bothered with the pesky quote button.)
If by originator, you mean "Am I responsible for those #1's?", the answer is obviously yes.
Business owners in any given field are not professionals in internet marketing. So they hire me to do the job for them. In other words, as far as my job goes, there are no #1 or #1000 results without me. They hire me because they don't want to take the lengthy time required to become an expert on these matters themselves.
Unblogged, I checked out your site... sweet blog, bro. I like how you're developing your style, interjecting your personality into otherwise blaise subjects.
Drop me a line via TG if you'd like a few suggestions, if we're talking about unblogged.net.
I won't help with a biz site, but I'd give some pointers for unblogged.net, no problem (no biz sites, although putting up a profitable adsense campaign might help, if proper SEO were in place, to pay the hosting bills. Shit, I am a libertarian, and have no problem with you making a few bucks! :D ).
I think your site is at the top if you search WITH quotes...that is until Google crawls this section of the NS section and puts Jolt Forums above your site...Oh yeah. That's what I meant. "With" quotes.
And besides....does it particularly matter? Do a search for "NationStates" to see another site I created (ok, helped create). I think it's first or so on the list. It can also be found at http://www.nationstates.net/
( ;) )

It's rediculous to consider the validity of quotes. Whether they "work" to get results is irrelevant, since nobody searching uses them (unless they're 'tarded and like typing a little more for the hell of it).
All that matters is being found. Being number one for "fish tasting genital contraption devices" doesn't help your traffic. So why waste your time on anything that doesn't advance your marketing objective?
Unless you're just jerking off on seeing your SEO results, however rediculous. :p

"Dragons Bay" is second...(not one word, but ah well)...I didn't realise there was a real "Dragons Bay" in Vietnam which was more popular than mine...*sobs*

If you type "VERLAMER", you'll hit my literature forum. #1 in Google.
But it's a bit of cheating... because it's a made-up word. :D
FlamingChickens

Type flamingchickens in google, My website http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/flamingchickens
is the first result out of around 305...not only that it's the first result for weird quizzes and other things, such as pointless laws.
*is proud of her site* I worked so hard on it last year...I've had over 60,000 visiters since August of 2003.

Actually, I do occasionally search with quotes, and I also oftenly do define: searches, but I use google as a research tool quite often, and when you're looking for site with particular phrases, the quotes can help and make a significant difference.
Eichen, I'm sending you a tele.
I always use quotes. Even if I'm just searching for a single word. ;)

Why? That doesn't make any difference.
