Noob training?

Very often, in my little geeky internet world, I come across noobs. I consider a noob to be someone new to a particular game without reading the rules of the game. Now more than often I see noobs here, breaking the rules and doing things that are generally very annoying. Now since their so new and still learning it wouldn't be good to mod them all the time. So I have a suggestion, how about a Special Noob thread, or section of the threads?

What do you think of my idea, or if you have any other ideas on how to deal with noobs please tell me...

Be Civil please....

I suggest you dont use the word noob, I will potentially lose all respect for you.

This may work, I go on the weebl and bob forums and they do it. However if they dont read the rules, why would they use a beginners forum? My suggestion is deal with it really, if you dont want to talk to someone dont.

Good point, I only use the word noob becuase thats what it is commonly referred to, how about uneducated begginer?, noob seems a bit easier to me.
I was thinking maybe whenever someone makes a "noob" error everyone else would point them to that particular forum, But I guess it doesn't make a lot of sense does it?

If you ask me that will just end up in unnecessary patronisation as a form of flaming. I think flaming is worse than amateur errors.

hmmm Good point, Maybe it would be a good idea to form a lesser type mod that just deals with "begginer errors" it would lighten up the mod load a bit too...

All my ideas tend to be very bad huh?

Maybe. You know to work it you could possibly force people to make a certain number of posts in a beginners forum before progressing. I guess that might make your ideas work.

yeah that could work, have a requirment of like 20 posts in begginers before they can post in general or anything else? That would work very well...

I hope you guys don't mind some "noob" point of view on this issue.

I created this account yesterday, and was having some major problems. Luckily for me, someone sent me a message inviting me to join their region. I told this person about my problems, and they helped me post it so others can help.

Now I'm getting used to the forums, and I'd like to start roleplaying, but I have no idea how, and no idea how to even set up my nation's government and such to get any good use out of roleplaying. Perhapse there can be a "buddy system" of more advanced RPers and players to help people like me build a respectable nation and a good roleplaying base on this site.

Also, there are way too many "read me first" threads, and I just don't know where to start! Condensing the rules onto one easy to read thread that is universal for all forums here would be really nice.

Sorry, just one point of view here -

If you're talking about RPing, there have been numerous attempts to have a roleplaying school of sorts, such as this one (http://s6.invisionfree.com/RoleplaySchool). If you're talking about the General forum, there's not much you really can do except ask people to read the stickies.

You can be a new poster without being a so-called "n00b." There are occasional new players who come in who read the stickies and sit back to get a flavour for the RP before jumping in. Some of them get off to spectacular starts, but others need some time to grow into the fora.

I don't think a beginner's forum would solve the problem of people jumping in with rulebreaking posts. It might turn people off who might otherwise develop into excellent players or posters.

I don't think I should do it. I've probably pissed them off a bit with me wanting to know why the hell my account had errors.

You are wrong. A newbie is someone who has recently joined the forum or bought the game or whatever. A newbie is someone who maybe wants to learn, or doesn't. Newbie just means a new person.

noob, means someone who uses whore guns or noob vehicles. A noob may be new, but often they are people who have played the game for a while but still do noobish things. A noob is not a person who is new and does wrong stuff neccessarily.

I'm a newbie, and i would love a clear section, guide, explanations part for beginners.

I mean, i wouldl ike too know how this game works but i haven't got a clue yet. I've read all forum rules, and read the small part about how to play the game but if thats it i can't go any further. I'm starting too get bored since i can't get into the debating.

For example, i don't know how everybody get Armies, Future Technologies, space ships, war, capital names, geography. What allows you too use Future technology? how do you remember what you have, do you?

i just saw a Topic about a Nuclear Weapons Facility beig captured, who says they have that? can you say you are making one yourself? do you have too take money of your budget? does someone do that for you? Can you say hwere its placed, how big it is, how much weapons are build? Will that be shown in your Nations page (or whatever that is called, i don't know)

How does it all work? I have no clue.

Please, a good beginners guide would be perfect. Saves a lot of questions, especially from people who want too join in completely.

Perfect example of a newbie mistake

this topic seems to dying, so i bid you all adiou, and potario, i am racist, and, IRISH PEOPLE SUCK!

The key to general is civility and respect. You can go quite a way with that and its easier to admit your wrong which we are all bound to be at some point

I wondered about all that too for about a week. Then I decided I'd stop worrying about it, untill I had patience to read through the 7 billion posts I couldn't understand... Besides, the General forum is brilliant fun :)

I don't think that would do much good. While it wouldn't really hurt for someone who already understands and follows the rules to have to wait 20 posts before leaving the proposed beginners forum, it would be a bit irritating for someone like me who tends to read more than post and might take quite a while to reach the required post count. And having a required post count wouldn't do anything for someone who doesn't bother trying to learn the rules at all and just writes quick, rapid-fire posts, or who spams up their post counts.

This is interesting. I joined back in March, and I've never read the rules once. I don't think the problem has anything to do with knowing the rules (for General, RPing is different), but rather that the kind of people who are acting like the ones you mentioned are either immature or just plain rude and inconsiderate. They don't last long because of this, of course.

The basic rule, in my opinion is to never say or do anything that you wouldn't do if you were speaking to other posters in person.

I'm brand new here, but I really agree with what you said. I lurked here for months before I posted, so I've been observing that most problems here could be easily prevented by taking this advice. It should be in a Sticky.

So there isn't a beginners guide at all? No newbie's, noobs can get standard questions answered?

I have got a lot of questions, and to think i have too make a topic of every single one of them too get them answered, or find a topic already excisting of every single one of them or asking a mod about every single one of them is nuts.

Look -- you folks say you don't understand the rules, and that they are not stickied. There is what you asked for: the One Stop Rules shop and general rules thread, which contains just about everything mentioned here so far, including tips on how to interact with the rest of the forum. Stickied. At the top of this forum.

What more do you need?

I'll add links to TOSRS and the other helpful stickies, and put it in standard sticky form (cf. Euroslavia).
