Mein gesprochener Deutsch ist falsch geworden, obwohl meine Erfassen
und Lesefähigkeit ausreichend ist.

I was raised bilingually, and lived and trained in Büdingen, Ober-Hessen, as a forestry apprentice. At one time I was completely fluent, even had the Hessian dialect down to perfection. Unfortunately my spoken German has become so rusty as to be useless.

Agh! Some peoples' German hear is making me want to scream! :p
Reminds of how bad some of my professors' English is:
"Ze fia extinkwishers are in ze floor" which they weren't... she meant to say hallway, which is "Flur" in German.

Reminds me of how some people in English class used to ask 'can I become a sheet?' when in need of paper. :D

Ich hab mein Deutsch gelern von Zeigentrickfilms

We used to get only crappy Dutch TV channels, so we watched cartoons on the German channels. Later movies. But that's where I learned most German. But I'm soooo rusty right now for speaking and writing. Not enough practise

Kind of makes me wonder just how bad Dutch TV is/was...we used to watch French (and some Italian) channels because we considered German TV to be bad ;)

This was in a chemistry lab. Later we were wondering about how someone that couldn't speak German and didn't notice the fire extinguishers in the hallway would have reacted if he or she had caught fire during class...

We just got the Dutch public channels. As a kid, those are just plain boring.

And yeah German TV can be quite bad. :D

I get the feeling English wasn't the only thing your teacher wasn't good at ;)

Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Und meine Vorfahren sind von Bayern.

Hope that came out right (I will be at least proficient by the end of the summer. ;))

Exactly! Bavaria is it's own country! It even has it's own "National Anthem"! :)

Can I speak German? Nein, Not really. Mein Deutsch ist scheisse. Ich weiß nur ein bisschen. I'd like to be fluent someday.
