Has to be.
I can't stop reading his books! Anyone else like his stuff?
I'm currently reading 'The Mist' in Skeleton crew, its chilling me right out, those poor people trapped in the supermarket.

You're gonna hear all kinds of "hackusations" from pseudointellectual poseurs, but Steven King is a great author.
He's one of the few guys out there who can tell a great story. And without pretension of any kind, that's exactly what he delivers.

When I get sick of reading some of the pointless, artsy-fartsy Pynchonesque stuff out there, I like to come back to a King novel for a fun read.

I dig the conceptual work of some authors, but let's face it -- Nobody is ripping through Delillo's books in one evening because they have to see how it ends. :D

How could you not put the Dark Tower series up there? It is everything. No really, if you haven't read it you haven't yet figured it out, almost every other book he's written touches the DT multiverse in some way. Besides that... I don't know... so much to choose from

Have to admit it though... Clive Barker is a much better writer, if not half as prolific. JMHO.

dark tower series, through book 4. i really don't like any of his other stuff (not that i dislike them... they just dont grab me and force me to finish them).

to reiterate... the gunslinger, the drawing of the three, the waste lands, and wizard and glass.

Sorry, The Dark Tower series( gives whirlwind uppercut to chin and launches head into ceiling)

And Clive Barker is not worthy to be Steven Kings footrest.

Tie between Rage (which was written as Richard Bachman and has been forced out of print by King due to Columbine) and The Talisman, which is my favorite book period...

Desperation comes in second, followed by the first 3 Dark Tower books.
