How often do you use a library?

Just curious, really...

I grew up reading myself through our large public library, studied library science in Germany, and though I no longer work in the field, I still love libraries and support them as best I can.

I used to go to the library almost every day when it was just two blocks away, but now I can't go. Why? It's over a mile away, and my dad won't ever drive me there when I ask. Of course, I couldn't possibly walk there, as I would be killed if I walked even a thousand feet from my house .

Meh.

Where do you live? Is it like Beirut in the 1980's?

I read half the library in my hometown. All fiction though, never for studying. Now I buy books

Nope. I live in a town of about 12,000, where I can't ever recall there being a single murder. My dad's just an overprotective (and overbearing) dick.

I usually go to the library for fiction, but prefer Borders or Barnes and Noble because I can sit in the cafe and have coffee or tea (which are for me prerequisites to reading or late night TV). B&N even has 50 cent refills on coffee in the store! I'll usually have three or four plus.

I couldn't possibly afford to buy all the books I read... and I used to read even more when I was a child. My parents would have had to apply for wellfare if it hadn't been for our library :)

Don't you just love it :D

I've been counting a bit and I still have about 20 books I really really really want to read.....right now

So you're an "Archivarin"? :D

If I really really want a book I usually buy it - but I do love libraries, they're great: Human knowledge and thought right there. And they have a good smell to them as well. Old books are way cooler than your online-text, that's for sure.

BTW, where exactly have you been in Germany? (Just curious!)

The nearest library is 4 miles away, which involves walking across bridge with little to no shoulder.

I can't drive (yet, very soon)

It's summer

Most research can be done on the internet.

I have plenty of things to read here, I have lots of books.

So not very often.

I buy two books per month...
It's enough to keep me busy AND it fills a nice bookshelf in my living room.

I'm "Diplom-Bibliothekarin" (you need to have studied it to pronounce that ;) )

I always bought the books I really really liked. And only those. And most of the time after having read them at the library first.

I studied in Leipzig and worked in Bamberg.

I answered once or twice a week, but that's only true if my home and work library's count.

Thanks for sharing. I'm in Göttingen right now, still studying Gymnasiales Lehramt. Hope to be finished anytime soon...

Not too hard

English and Biology. :D Both of my Leistungskurse (and favorite subjects as a foreign exchange student in North Carolina). Gotta teach what you like and what you're good at. And I didn't want to teach German (2 language subjects are way too much correction work...)

During the school year, I go every school day. Now that it's summer, I only go about once a week or less.

Never. I prefer to own a copy of every book I read, so I can refer back to it later.

I love the library. The school library had the best climate in the school, and also the best chat...lol...

The public libraries in Hong Kong are just cool. :D The air con is always good and the books are plentiful. Only it's hard to find a computer sometimes...

I would if the local libraries wern't so limited. I use the great big library known as the Internet.

Hmm... if I lived like that, I wouldn't be able to open any doors in my house any more, as every bit of space would be stacked to the ceiling with books. Or do you throw them out after a while?

I work for and in a public library, so I'm there five days a week, usually. However, I do not encourage library use because, quite frankly, I hate having to deal with you idiots. :sniper:

i don't go to the library much. basically because my living room is practically a library in itself and most of the books i want to read can be borrowed from friends/family

Well, trust me, so is my living room, my bed room and out spare room. Stacked to the ceiling, literally.
But I find that going to the library draws my attention to books I otherwise simply wouldn't notice...

I've lived in University Campuses for more than half my life. I've never been to a public library, but I do go research little things every so often.

I use the school library every (school) day, so I averaged it out and said once or twice a week.

It get's really scary if they put books on hold for you without being asked "Well, that seemed like you might find it interesting" ;)

People who go to the library every day ARE scary, especially to the librarians. We can't help but wonder how you make a living, since you're in the library every day when you should obviously be at work somewhere ...
