London NSers Check-in

The Nazz

Just wanted to start a thread where Londoners could check in and let us all know they're all right after the bombings today. Please keep the rhetoric about the actual bombings out of this thread.

->Not from or in London. Just concerned.

Hope everyone is OK.

As many of our members live in and around London, I have been wondering and worrying about their well being. I would like for this to be a thread solely for them to check in and let us know how they are doing. Also, this thread could be used for them to connect and find out if someone needs help. There are a lot of very lengthy threads concerning this catastrophe, but if we could reserve this for our London friends it would be easy for all of us to scan.

If there is another thread on NS like this, let me know and I will ask the mods to merge them. Also, if the mods don't mind, I would appreciate it if you would help me keep this bumped to the first page for a couple of days to make it easy to find. Thanks for your cooperation.

Edit: If you see a friend post on here please TG them with your message. I'm sure we will all be relieved to see some friends make an appearance and a TG might give them a little encouragement when they need it most.

Thanks folks.

I don't live in London, but I work there. If these people think a few bombs exploding are going to make us change our lifestyles or routines, they are sorely, sorely mistaken.

I was on the last tube train that left Kings Cross station on Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. Scary or what? Somebody I know was stuck on a tube for about 2 hours yesterday, but she was alright.

I'm ok. Could've been in the vicinity of Kings Cross (on the Northern Line though), if I hadn't have gone to work that morning, I had other engagements. So that was a close one!

Yeah, I read your post (via Moderation) - I'm from the Old Kent Rd area. I'm a bit disturced that there's so much police activity in the Peckham area, even today, apparently...

There's constant police activity in Peckham..
I gotta get the tube all the way to Totteridge and back later on, naturally without ticket (or I could stretch to a child ticket..), do you reckon they'll be more militant with ticket checks in the tube stations now?
(I got collared on Monday at London Bridge between the Northern and Jubilee Lines for not having a ticket..)

Aligned Planets checking in

I was at Holborn when the blast at Russell Square went off, on the train directly behind the one that was heading to King's Cross when it exploded. You could hear the explosion from where I was, and people in the train were screaming as the driver had to bring the train to an emergency stop.

The lights went out as the Underground staff turned off the electric rails, and we were left with the low-level emergency lighting. You could hear little bangs and pops coming from further in the tunnel.

I'm just glad that I didn't rush into work that morning, a couple of minutes earlier and...well...

The bits of the tube that were still working were really weird, everyone was edgy, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

One of my Fathers good friends, girlfriend still hasn't turned up ..

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy ..

It's kind of strange, people are getting back to work, everything is going back to normal I guess.

I was planning on taking a trip around to take some pictures of the atmosphere, but maybe that would be disrespectful.

There's a fair number living and/or working in London, including myself. But the characteristic reaction of most Londoners to the bombings is a sigh of annoyance at the inconvenience, and then to carry on as before. That's not to downplay the tragedy, but it's a big city and we've been here before.

My Son-in Law would have been in Kings Cross at the time , but for the fact he over slept!

There has been a heavy police presence today, but as far as possible things have been much as normal.

My sympathies to the victims and their families!

I don't know how much truth there is in it, but I heard on the radio this morning, that some hotels in London had doubled their prices, because there were loads of commuters who couldn't get home.

If that is true...it is so dispicable...they charge exorbitant rates as it is!

I know what you mean. At school yesterday and today the mood was subdued but a lot more like normal than I would have expected, and a lot more normal than I felt, not that I lost anyone personally thank the Lord, but London is my home city that I have lived in all my life and the sight of that bus with the poles on the upper deck stretching up to a roof that was not there was one of terrible pathos and it shocked me greatly. Still, I didn't live through the IRA or the blitz and I think London will recover well.
