Here's some information for Americans who need to contact relatives and friends who are in London now:

The Bureau of Consular Affairs has set up a call center for inquiries on US citizens in London who may have been affected by the blasts. The call center number is 1-888-407-4747.

I am sure this info will be appreciated, Whispering Legs.

If you have relatives in London wh oyou are worried about, the BBC have a helpline. It's UK area code (0044 - don't dial the first '0') 0870 1566 344.

Thanks also, Lollypop.

Please ONLY post in this thread if you have information on organizations/agencies who can help people find out about their families and friends in the wake of the London incident.

Swedish citizens can contact the Utrikesdepartementet in Stockholm on +46 (0)8 405 55 44 or the Swedish Embassy in London on +44 (0)20 7158 0010. Information also online at www.ud.se or http://www.swedenabroad.com/pages/start____20358.asp

Incidentally, isn't the title of this sticky thread a little insensitive - Americans may sometimes think they own the world, but they are not the only foreign people affected by the incidents in London. I suggest a moderator changes it or places a sticky thread with a title more suitable to the global nature of the audience of this forum. Thanks.

For French citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/) has information on their website (http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/pays_zones_geo_833/royaume_uni_202/attentats_londres_5521/br_point_15105.html).

I also think that the name of this thread is too US-centric.

Considering that the original post came from another thread, and it was aimed at helping Americans find their loved ones, I didn't really think it was a big deal. The thread has evolved however, starting from the second post, so a title change is a good idea.

Your tone is hardly tolerant in itself -- should I say it's European superiority looking down its nose and once again taking the chance to bash the US?

To be honest, whilst perhaps my statement was a little uncalled for, it is no worse that the original arrogant title of this thread. But, you are of course correct, two wrongs don't make a right, so I am sorry - I was just irritated by the thread title when I was typing my response. You have to remember that America does have a history of bombing people without permission, so together with other factors, for Europeans (and no doubt others) it can sometimes bring across a feeling that USA is rather arrogant towards the rest of the world. Of course, this is a part-stereotype... just as your perceived notion that Europeans think they are superior is. You see, there is something we certainly have in common, we use stereotypes all to easily.

Many thanks for changing the title of the thread, the spirit of which I am sure is appreciated by many.

Apologies for this, a it may not br the apropriate place, but a UK member of the region I'm in went missing immediately after the bombing. Is there any way to request an inquery to his email addy? (I don't want it myself - an email from the Mods or Jolt would be sufficient.)

He usaully signs in to his nation every few days and it's been over a week.
I wouldnt ordinarily ask, but wuith the attcks I am starting to worry.

You're not getting the point, are you?

I said "should I say it's European superiority looking down its nose and once again taking the chance to bash the US," as a means of pointing out that there's no more justice in Americans painting every European in that fashion than in what you do me in your VERY uncalled for comments. You want to grind your axe about US policies, kindly do it in your own thread, k? I'll even agree with you on some of them. I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me insensitive and imply that I am arrogant because of an OMG oversight.

I haven't called you insensitive. I'm sure you're not. I just said that the previous thread title was insensitive. I'm sure it wasn't deliberate.

Uh, just an observation, wouldn't you being doing the same thing towards Europe with said quote above? Or were you just trying to give an example?

{Edit} Sorry Kat, I just re-read the post, I see it was just an example. Sorry!{/Edit}

Anyway, methinks that this sticky may have out lived it's usefulness? Given the attacks on London have come and gone. I doubt anyone is still looking for this information enough for it to be a sticky. Of course that is just my opinion, it will have to be a mods call. It just seems to no longer be needed.

No problem, Stephistan.

Hopefully, everyone will have had the chance to get in touch with their friends and loved ones by now. It's probably not necessary any more, but I'll leave it up a few more days before desticking it.

Got the TGed response. Thank you for considering it. As I indicated above, I hadn't even expected it to be considered. So again, thank you.

Yeah this thread is just taking up space on General. It gets annoying having to scroll down further since this sticky was put up. It's even more annoying since Czardas' newbie guide was put up. (I mean honestly, it's calling Bush's works of literature "literature")

I don't think Max was even alive in 2001...

So, your answer is no. We never got a sticky. ;)

I was in Ireland on a bike trip when the 1st attack happened....I nearly passed out in fear that my dad was in London on a business trip (in Athens, as it turned out)
