There's dumb...

and then there's politician-dumb (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/orl-aseccanker05070505jul05,0,3793083.story?page=1&coll=orl-home-headlines).

And while I must admit a touch of glee at the fact that this is Katherine Harris I'm talking about here, I'd like to think I'd make fun of any politician dumb enough to do this.

Four years ago, as the state labored to eradicate citrus canker by destroying trees, officials rejected other disease-fighting techniques, saying unproven methods would waste precious time and resources.

But for more than six months, the state, at the behest of then-Secretary of State Katherine Harris, did pursue one alternative method -- a very alternative method.

Researchers worked with a rabbi and a cardiologist to test "Celestial Drops," promoted as a canker inhibitor because of its "improved fractal design," "infinite levels of order" and "high energy and low entropy."

But the cure proved useless against canker. That's because it was water -- possibly, mystically blessed water.

That's right folks--Katherine Harris of the Florida 2000 debacle, current member of the House of Representatives and pissed-off-at-the-Bushes-for-looking-for-another-candidate for Senate, checked into something called "Celestial Drops" as a cure for tree canker.

It's water. Florida already gets a lot of it from the sky, and it wasn't doing anything to stop the canker, so what made her think this stuff would do anything different? Improved fractal design? Infinite levels of order?

Just how dumb do you have to be to get elected to office in this country?
