Downtown Hamilton, there is a church that has a gay pride type flag hanging outside of it.

Not something you would expect hanging from a flagpole off a church, huh?

*runs around, arms flailing* AIEEE!!!! AIEEE!!!! ...*pauses* Wait...I'm not gay.

*breathes a sigh of relief* :D

They're saying, "Dude, we don't give a shit. Our god loves everybody because we say so! Come on in!"

Rather or not the message is sincere, well, that is anybody's guess.

No-one see the UCC ad?

I saw it and I live in the UK!

And gay pride is one of the things a surprising number of churches agree with. Ever hear of Canon Gene Robinson?

It was a united church, I think.

It was unexpected for me, but that aught to cork up all the "Christian chruches all condemn homosexuals." crap.

They could just be horribly uninformed as to the meaning of the flag and just thought it was pretty. :D

In good ol' Merka, a number of stations banned the ad.

Then just inside the door they have "homosexual paper" (tm) and all teh gay people get stuck to it so they put them in church and preach to them until they are straight..or dead..

They could have confused it for the Born_Again type Rainbow....I always get a kick when I see those. Also, I used to live down the street from The Metrpolitan Church of Toronto, which is basicly a Christian church for Gays, Lesbians, Bis, etc. so seeing a Gay Pride style banner on a church doesn't seem half so odd to me now as it once would have.

Coulda been a Unitarian Church. We welcome and affirm all people.

Did you notice what KIND of church this was? Not all churches condemn homosexuals, you know. Not even all Christian churches condemn homosexuals.

In fact, have a look at this site
http://www.christianalliance.org

Not the type of message we are used to seeing from Christians, is it? 'Bout damn time the TRUE CHRISTIANS rose up to reclaim their good faith that the fundies have hijacked!!

Feh. I was raised Unitarian, and I've seen the darker side of Unitarianism in Southern Ontario. True "Christians" indeed. I've found Unitarian congregations in Southern Ontario to be among the most cloyingly Christian-oriented of any and all the Unitarian Churches in the St. Lawrence District, of which Hamilton is a part, incidentally.

Excuse me. First, my note about TRUE CHRISTIANS referred to the link I provided about Christian Alliance For Progress.

Second, it is not necessary for you to insult my religion. sorry you had a bad experience with it. But no need for your snarky remark, which could very easily be considered flamebait.

Thirdly, I'd not so insult my fellow Unitarians by labelling them anything but Unitarian. Some of us are Christians, like me...others are Wiccans, Jews, Muslims, even Agnostics and Atheists all partake in Unitarian services, as you must know if you were raised Unitarian.

Anyway, my point was...when I referred to TRUE CHRISTIANS...I was referring, not to my church...not to the Unitarians...but to the link I provided for Christian Alliance For Progress.

Next time, why don't you read and get the context before firing off hurtful, snarky, and unnecessary insults?

I think an apology is in order here, Dobbs.

It wasn't a unitarian church... it was an old building and the rainbow flag was next to a canadian flag hanging off it. If I get a chance to go downtown again on Sat (my day off) I'll take a pic.
