Gonzales Nomination for SCOTUS?

The Black Forrest

I am starting to wonder is this nomination(if it happens) is a well orchestrated "plot?"

I heard his named suggested and then all the right wing groups get up an arms. Groups such as the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, Concerned Women for America, Center for a Just Society (where do they come up with these names? ;), and the national review.

There is such "rabid" assault on the guy and the claims of the President owing them that I actually found myself sympathizing with the guy.

Yet I wonder if I can accept the idea of a lifetime appointment for the guy that gave the legal go-ahead to the torture techniques employed at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo?

Even though I find myself ponding the age old thought, the enemy of my enemy I kind of wonder if he truely is our friend.

I am starting to think that I should align with the groups I usually disapprove and join the fight to make sure the torture guy never slips on the life time uniform of the black robes of the SCOTUS.

Rather premature, isn't it? He's only been Attorney General for a few months.

That's a good mentality, but wouldn't that make your enemy's (Gonzales) enemies (the groups you usually hate) your friends?

If anyone honestly believes that the "vast right wing conspiracy" could orchestrate such a thing, then the Democratic Party should go ahead and dissolve now.

Sheesh!

no one wants Gonzalez, the rightwing crazy groups thinks he is a nutcase liberal because he doesn't support making women have babies (according to them) and the nutcase liberals think he is a rightwing crazy because he is a bush ass kisser and always has been

Well I am not exactly a demo so you made a bit of an assumption.

And the idea was more of the white house planning it as a way to offer the "lessor" of the evils so that there isn't a protracted fight which would take away from the shrubs pet projects such as social security.

What experience does Gonzales have on the bench?

Gonzales did not approve of torture, and you cannot prove that he did, either.

I think he would be a great choice.

A year, and he was appointed directly to the Texas Supreme Court?

Dear god, that's not qualification...

Perception my friend. I feel that he didn't, while others may feel that he did. It can't be proven either way.

you mean the cheerleader pyramids and rubbing of males by females at Abu Ghraib, the reading of Harry Potter at Gitmo?

How awful. What a barbarian!

Mao Tse tung killed millions (or had them killed) and was called a hero.

Do you understand the mentality of the average Muslim in such areas? It's about as bad as you can get from their viewpoint.

Didn't know about Potter.

That one made me do a doubletake as well. All I can figure is that he made some comments about abortion the rabid righties don't like so that must mean he is a liberal?????

Don't know. Not looking forward to the outcome no matter who is picked.

He'll end up picking someone the same as O'Connor, the dems will filibuster anyone who isn't in the very least a centrist.

I don't have a problem with offending Muslim sensibilities - religion is stupid anyway - it's the torture I have a problem with.

No, I'm talking about using electric shock torture and attack dogs against naked prisoners.

The names I have seen don't look too moderate.

His track record with Scalia and Thomas don't look like he will.

Hmmm Unless there is some unknown out there......

Well from talking to the ones I work with they say you can pretty much consider it torture. One said he would actually prefer physical totorture then do the naked stuff.

Was the potter reading called torture?

Don't remember a fatwa called against Rowlings. :p
