Select your G8 leaders

Tonight is the night. The G8 starts. The 8 leaders from the 8 most powerful countries will gather in a castle in Scotland to address the most critical issues of our time. During three days will 8 men discuss their common strategy to fight the evils on planet earth.

It is like something from a fairy tale, something written by Tolkien. But then we look at the characters…

George W Bush, Jacques Chirac, Vladimir Putin, Silvio Berlusconi, Tony Blair, Gerhard Schröder, Junichiro Koizumi and Paul Martin.

It is not really the top notch, actually rather pitiful. Especially the first four would in my opinion be more suited for the circus. Is this really the best the world can sum up? Would this be your pick?

Oh why do we get the leaders we deserve!

I know that they, luckily, have tons of people helping them, but anyway..
Please, be constructive and give us your suggestion. Maybe it will come to a poll.

NSers can do better!

I don't mind Schröder actually.

He is my favourite in the group although he is not able to motivate the people in Germany and he has been playing a rather small part in EU considering Germany being the biggest country.

Maybe I am demanding to much from our leaders but then there were people like Gandhi who engaged a lot of people.

I'd change Clinton for anyone of the current. But then it might just be nostalgia.

What about someone like Luiz Lula da Silva, president of Brazil. He seems to have a more idealistic view but is he to naive?

Anyone miss Gorbatschow?

(What does snip mean?)

Given Canada has led the G8 in growth since 2001, and no one even comes close, I think you should leave Paul Martin right where he is.

George W Bush, Jacques Chirac, Vladimir Putin, Silvio Berlusconi, Tony Blair, Gerhard Schröder, Junichiro Koizumi and Paul Martin.

As an American I can ONLY speak for the American canidate who is downright pathetic.

Better US leaders:

John McCain (His political experience and handling in our governmentis second to none)
Ralph Nader (The pinnicle of altruistic behavior and alutruistic pro-Constitutional cause. The ideal reformer.)

Well Xanas if it was a competition in growth then Martin might be the strongest within the G8. But then we have other candidates.

However I had a quick look on http://www.geographyiq.com/ranking/ranking_GDP_real_growth_rate_dall.htm

Where Canada comes in on the most honorable 144th place. Beaten by Japan, US and UK.

Going on growth the eight leaders would then be (to my big surprise):
data from www.wikipedia.org
Hamid Karzai (Afghanistan) doubious US puppet

Saparmurat Niyazov (Turkmenistan) "an authoritarian leader and is known for his massive personality cult"

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (Equatorial Guinea) "one of the most corrupt, ethnocentric, oppressive and anti-democratic states in the world"

Pascal Yoadimnadji (Chad)

Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan)

His Serene Highness Hereditary Prince Alois Philipp Maria von und zu Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein)

Robert Kocharian (Armenia)

Viktor Yushchenko (Ukraine)

Which at least proves that we could have gotten worse.

Yushchenko might be someone for the group. After all he succeded in leading a very peaceful transition of power in Ukraine.

Are our heros only pop and sport stars?

HAHAHAHAHA... oh im sorry I needed that. Keeping in the spirit of this post I nominate Optimus Prime to represent the United States of America at the G8 summit.

I think it is for the best if we try to nominate real alive people. But they do not need to come from the G8 countries.

Optimus Prime is a robot from trnsformers right??

If they are not publically known a shorter description might be handy.

It took me a while to find out about the canadian drunk snooker Bill Werbeniuk.

1. Yes, he is a robot from Transformers.

The funny thing is, you say they're more suited for a circus - but meanwhile, each one of those leaders is the one that their respective countries preferred above all others. Would you say Kerry would then not be suitable for a circus, just because you supported him (For example)? If so, you suffer from a little thing most of us call bias, because it seems that more of half of all Americans have a view more or less opposite to yours.

Anywho, my apologies for the flamebait, but I couldn't resist  it's not even a good argument.

2. I was being facetious.

So if you try to be something else, are you happy with those present? No one can be happy with Berlusconi.

Acctually I am a little dissapointed that I can't directly name some people. But I find it intreging. Also it seems as the more "extreme" you are the more heroic is your status amongst your followers.

Well like the stereotypical ignorant American I dont know enough about world politics outside what goes on here to comment on any of the candidates. And frankly I couldnt care less. So now you can type away at your keyboards spewing hateful posts about how stupid and careless the average American citizen is when it comes to international politics and intrigue. Happy?

Well it is not like half of the americans voted for Bush. It is more like 30% or so, as almost 50% don't give a damn. And out of the 30% how many made a choice between two evils?

In France Chirac got 18% of the votes in the first round when there was a choice. So about every tenth french prefered him. Schröder is taken a real bad beating in Germany and won't last til new year.

In addition these 8 will treat issues important for the world and I doubt some of the above would get a majority in a world-vote.

But all of this is not really the point I would like to get some positive ideas on "heros". It could be corporate leaders NGO's whatever...

And I wan't to make the point that from the current selection I think most people would agree on that it lacks some kind of statemenship and something I call intelletunace (lacking some english here). Which does not imperatively has to be a bad thing. But maybe it is interessting that at least 4 such leaders have come to power in this time.

I could care less about the average American citizen, I don't think out of the 350 million americans or so I will ever meet him.

I am not to much on this forum but I don't see to many of those posts "about how stupid and careless the average American citizen is when it comes to international politics and intrigue". Acctually it seems at it is mostly Americans writing about it. Most europeans ,:) , don't have a clue whether the "average" american has knowledge of international politics. Nor do I know if the italians or the poles have. I do know that most people I know don't and I think it is sad as international politics is important.
