Mmmm, lets see how far this one goes shall we? As effective as the other side was, I wonder if this side will prove to be more effective.

Yes, we nutters actually are intelligent.

Probably more effective than putting all of one's funds from a massive fundraising into a flotilla of little boats that are then confiscated and scuttled by the French Navy.

Just because someone is a religous evangelical doesn't make them a right wing nut. I'm not a Christian myself by any stretch of the imagination, and I give them plenty of flack here, but religous right wing nuts actually form a minority of devout Christians. Only the Southern Baptists were in favor of the war in Iraq, but they were all we heard from. I believe it was an evangelical who wrote "God's Politics: Why the Right Gets it Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get it."

There's a reason you had to go to the BBC to find the news "not all devout Christians agree with Bush." Though he commands an army of ignorance, Pat Robertson does not speak for all Christians. Nor do Jerry Falwell and Billy Graham.

There are very few things calling themselves "green" that could be considered "Rightwing"....

Well, if it's going to be effective, I'm going to have to stop burning non-believers at the stake, and stop eating their children, and stop enslaving their women.

It would be a good start...

Well, I'll be sure to stop my stereotypical behavior (you know, grabbing potential converts and forcing them to accept Jesus, driving around in a large pickup truck shooting out the window and yelling "Yee Haw!") as soon as the members of NOW stop snatching babies off the street and stuffing them into Waring blenders on PUREE. ;)

And there are those that wonder why people like WL are persecuted.

What the heck is NOW anyway? I haven't heard of an organization like that.

National Organisation for Women.

One of the original and most radical of feminist organisations. It got a bad rap in the 70's because part of the backlash against traditional chauvinism included a few members of NOW saying things like "all men are potential rapists" and voicing the belief that the only truly loving relationship that a woman can be in is a lesbian one because otherwise the power imbalance it too great.

This brand of feminism has all but died out because straight people can't just choose to be gay anymore than the reverse, and when young feminists started having babies they had a lot of trouble looking down on their beautiful baby boys and thinking "oh my. What a precious potential rapist." Hell, even Gloria Steinem got married a couple of years ago.

Good for them. I wish they were more influential in their party. Unfortunately, the leaders of the political/evangelical movement--theocons I like to call them--don't quite see eye to eye with them. Fromt he article:Focus on the Family, which has been at the forefront of campaigns against abortion and gay marriage, says it cannot support "any issue that seems to put plants and animals above humans".
That's about typical for the theocons--gay marriage is more of a threat to human existence than global warming. And they wonder why we think they're a bunch of whackjobs.

wow.

i guess this shouldnt seem really strange, cause what they said in the article kinda makes sense, it just seems wierd because ive never heard of the combo before.

very glad to hear of it, though, nice to know that some people dont see religion and environmental concern as polar opposites.

hope it continues, and gains more support

think, what a wierd alliance hippies, bible-thumpers, and bio-geeks would make....:)

Well, like a lot of things, it comes down to interpretation.

Genisis says that Adams job was to "hold dominion over the earth (little 'e' it means the dirt, not the planet)." People like Ann Coulter (actually, Ann Coulter said this almost exactly) that dominion means that people are allowed to exploit the world however they want. "Take it, rape it, its yours."

Now, the biblical meaning of the word dominion differs a little from that of the Religious right. God is lord over men, men are lord over the earth. We're not here to do whatever the fuck we want to it anymore than we expect God to do whatever the fuck he wants with us. We expect him to take care of us, he expects us to take care of the earth.

Right wingers interperate the passage from Genisis as license to act like a child who just found the keys to the pantry. They interperate most things as a license to act like a spoiled child. More left leaning Christians see that passage as imposing a responsibility on Christians to be good 'parents' to the world.
