A Point to be made about America

I wish to make a point about America. Generally Americans are very good people. Many of them work hard like many of the world's people and try to get along with people. But, now many people are abashing them look at the French in many ways they helped to create Hitler by imposing such harsh measures in the Treaty of Versailles in 'reparations' they caused the German economy to plummet and during this time Hitler and his Nazi part came to power by promising to restore German to it's former powerful state. Also, now offense to the British (I actually generally like all British I meet), their colonizing policies forced such quick changes in many of the countries they totally disrupted their cultures and caused enmity by the local peoples for years into their revolution and after their are civil wars waging in many ways. But, yet we owe thanks to the British for doing this because the countries they controlled modernized rapidly and they would be far behind us now days if it weren't for the British. As for the Canadians by what right do they have to call Americans rednecks and morons did any them ever think of the perspective of the Americans as in Canada they are allowed to by drugs legally as in America they aren’t so in which case Americans form their perspective see the Canadians by this immoral which I know they aren’t as their government always wants to take care of their people look at their national healthcare for everyone. I also know their are many problems in America as such the war in Iraq wasn’t justifiably proven and others such as they are privatizing Medicare.

I agree with you. Most Americans are good people. Just like most British people are good people, Canadian people are good people and Iraqi people are good people.

However, the world doesn't take a look at the real cross-section of American society. Instead, we only see the American sterotype based on how our government, politicans and foreign dignitaries act elsewhere in the world. Such is the way of stereotype. When something goes bad, that gets splashed on the news; when something goes good, it sits under the bed for nobody to see.

Most Americans live their live without ever getting international recognition for just living their lives. Instead, the world sees pictures of our soldiers (i.e. Iraq, Afghanistan), our celebrities (i.e. Michael Jackson or Martha Stewart) or are controversies. They don't see the average Joe American, and that's the problem.

While the rest of the world critiques us based on what they see and what we project, we retaliate in the same cycle of misjudgment. Americans just don't want to admit that while the rest of the world is willing to admit it for the most part.

Agree 100%.

Why the media keep on showing the worst of America? Because it sells. Bad news is good news.

Well, I personally lost any appreciation when a certain president of the USA said: "You're either with us, or against us." I wasn't with them, but also not against them. All the president did with that statement in my opinion, was threatening the whole world and denying every arguement that could ever be made before even listening to them. Now that makes me not like this government. Only the government though, the people can't really help it. I mean, we're stuck here with a minister that says the people have to try harder to understand the ridiculous policy of the government instead of opposing it, which is basically the same thing the USA president did.

It applies to every other piece of news item. No news is good news...most of the time.

Its not legal here, just decriminalized. It you have a less than a specified amount you can't be arrested, unless you are selling it.

Believe me, there are plenty of us who LIVE in America and are NOT happy with this statement. Especially given that apparently, he hypocritically considers certain states which are fairly openly funding terrorism against the US as being WITH the US because of their money and control of a certain thick, gooey, black substance.

In American baseball, they have "pinch hitters", who bat for folks like the pitcher who may be godawful at hitting and running. I think Bush should have had a "pinch speaker" who would have avoided insulting our allies and people who were at the least neutral and at best sympathetic. And he should have had a cabinet that would have reined him in and reminded him that we are one nation in the international community, not a bull elephant trampling over allies and enemies alike.

Most of us who have any brainpower saw the outpouring of sympathy and mourning around the world after 9/11, and were dismayed to see Bush's speeches and policies destroy that in no time flat.

Many countries did so I agrealty applaud their effort, but also some countries, as I believe, only did so for their image.

This run-on sentence makes my head hurt. PUNCTUATION IS YOUR FRIEND!!!

And by the way. I'm a Canadian. I'm also an American. Perhaps you mean, "A point to be made about the USA"? Or are you speaking of the continent? [/pendantic nitpicking]

The North and South are just directional modifers to the continental name. The entire continent is America.

But our ideas of continents are not based solely on plates...it's a cultural viewpoint too. Hence the varation in numbers of continents taught in schools around the world. NOW STOP IT! :D

blame Versailles on the French and British, not on the US. If Wilson had his way, the Germans would have been welcomed into the fold and reubilt, albeit with some punishment. The French and Brits wanted punishment, and were excessive in their vengeance against the "vile hun"

so, I agree, most Americans are good people, with mixings of stupidity, mental disorders, ugliness, and spite.

Just like very other nation on earth.

If by everybody, you mean only those people who speak English, then I suppose you are close to being correct (as even many English speakers are not calling USians Americans). But many, many more people do not call people from the US, "Americans". STOP DRAWING ME INTO THIS DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!

And as to your question...I'm both. All of us have different 'identies' based on different criteria.
