I study religon(its my hobby, oh and I'm an atheist) and I always wonder what religon would god be?, I personally think he would be an atheist(the IronY!), but my friend contends he would be a buddhist. So I ask you my fellow NS's what religon would god be (if he existed and lived on earth, for arguments sake lets say he lives in New Jersey)?
oh and keep it civil and no one try to convert anyone please...

I love the question! :D
I think god could be nothing less than a humanist. ;)

Depends, does he retain his omniscience and omnipotence or is he just human?

Wait a minute, what am I saying!? Religion exists for the worship of God, and to further His will! If God was human, there would be no God and therefore we would all have to be atheist!

A singular deity would be a deist.
I think, therefore I am. I exist, so I believe in myself as a matter of existence.
Deism acknowledges the simple existence of a singular omnipotence without needing to devolve that acknowledgement into categories or rituals.
I do not ritualize my own existence. Non-ritualized belief in an omnipotent being is Deisim, therefore God is a Deist.

But if god was human it would no longer be all knowing ... therefore it would not know for sure if a god did or did not exist

If god has low self esteem then he'd be an atheist because a person with low self esteem doesn't beleive in himself. Otherwise, Cthulhu Cult. God would want to belong to the coolest religion, so he would worship Cthulhu.

I can imagine it, God getting home from work, after his boss passed him over for promotion again. Looking into the mirror crying, saying to himself "you can create an entire universe in a week, but you can't get a stupid TPS report done fast enough!", he then procedes to eat a gallon of ice cream and watch the O.C. crying all the way through....

Or maybe kidnapping his boss as a sacrifice in some unspeakable rite to invoke powers from beyond.

Sort of like the Avatar in Scott Adam's "God's Debris" and "Religion War"?

Well if there is a god we already know he has low self esteem.. if he didn't he wouldn't need all us humans praising him all the time if he was a confident god. That at the very least should be obvious..
Now as to the atheist, they don't have low self esteem, it has nothing to do with not believing in yourself, in fact atheist probably have higher self esteem than religious people given that atheists don't need a god to feel good about themselves.
But I can see where you were going with it in the case of god being an atheist..lol

I don't think god (IF he existed) would be an athest.
1. I am god.
2. I am an athesit.
3. Therefore I do not believe in a god.
4. Therefore, I do not exist.
*God disappears in a puff of logic*
Perhaps god wouldn't like religion. Perhaps he likes the Cult of TInk :D

(1) If God needs to be worshipped in order to feel good about him/herself, (s)he has low self-esteem.
(2) Low self-esteem=does not believe in him/herself
(3) Does not believe in him/herself=atheist, unless God worships another deity! (Perhaps God worships J.K. Rowling, too!)

God is Atheist.
Atheism is more or less the belief that there is no higher power at work. If God were to exist, he would be said higher power, and thus would not believe that there were a power higher than him.
Thus, God is Atheist.
Likewise, he cannot be Christian... but that's another point I'll get to later.
hmm...lets see. God living in New Jersey (wow...he's fallen pretty far since the days in heaven. I see a VH1 "Behind the music" style documentary coming up. "He had it all...then it all came crashing down")
anyway...
God living in New Jersey would play skee ball, get attacked by demonic rollerhockey players, go into a coma, be put on life support, and then turn into alanis morissette when she is unplugged by Linda Fiorentino after a long mission with the help of Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Alan Rickman, and Chris Rock.
with that said, I watch too many movies.
We can't assign religious belief to God because he is so far above the idea of religion, which is a human concept of what God is. Practically speaking, God wanted people to revere their creator so he inspired systems of worship to facilitate this. However, he had to dumb it down to a human level in order for people to understand it, and so our religious ideas cannot be assigned to God because they are human terms.

If God got evicted from Heaven, he'd call up Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel (archangels) and give them an offer they couldn't refuse.
Then after much plot twisting, zingy and witty one-liners, and maybe an uncomfortable scene with Our Holy Mother (no, not Isis. The other one), he would perform a coup de'tat to the sound of a single violin.
All of his enemies defeated, God would reassert his rightful place as ruler of the universe.
God has no religion. But he would obviously believe in himself. He'd be nondenominational, bascially.

Silly person ... everybody knows God is a Jew.
YES!
actually, I don't think G-d would have any given religion...of the 5 "major" religions, G-d is the "higher power" in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, so it wouldn't make sense for G-d to be any of those 3 religions, he'd then be worshipping himself and there would technically be no "higher power" for him to worship in the first place...oy...confusing. And in Buddhism and Hinduism, there is no god, and many gods, respectively, so to be of the former, G-d would not even exist, which goes against the point of the question, and to the be of the latter, again, G-d would technically not exist, unless he is counted as one of the Hindu gods, I do not think so.
And if I was wrong about those last two, please, please, feel free to correct me.
Atheism...again, to be an atheist, G-d would have to not believe in his own existance, and thus...he would not exist, again going against the point of the question.
I don't know enough about Paganism, Ba'hai, or any of the cults or other religions to say anything else.
Oy now I've just gone and confused myself.
