This forum seems to lean fairly heavily to the left. Is it fair to say that people who are more interested in politics and world events (ie, NationStates members) tend to be on the liberal side of the boat?

Naw, you ain't seen nothin yet...
But be careful with your definitions..."liberal" can mean many things if you don't use it in the right context.

The conservatives certainly make up for their lack in numbers with volume...

Hardly... this forum is not exactly an accurate representation of the entirety of world voters. It's not "fair" to say anything that's based on the way things are on this forum. It is one of many online forums. By the way, it's spelled soulless.

Yeah, we do... and the liberals make up for their lack in numbers by popping out more babies - while making sure to abort a third of them for good measure. ;)

I don't tie myself down to a label, nor decide to alter my line of thinking so that it conforms to one particular 'side' in an argument. I just do what I think is right, and to hell with the lot of you! And dude, there is no way you could call me a dirty hippy, man. I'm like, totally clean; I wash like, three times a month, man, with soap an' everythin'! Totally awesomely shiny clean, dude.

Teh deadites, mate, welcome to the largest Liberal Nazi conservative extremist forum on the internet...

I think we would be in the 3rd or 4th dimension on a political compass in the 'completely hypocritical' section...

I'm weird. Anyone who's read any of my posts knows that when it comes to foreign policy I'm a soulless hawk, and when it comes to civil liberties and social programs I'm a dirty hippie. Maybe I'm a dirty hawk or a soulless hippie.

I don't know the exact % of Americans on this forum to date, but the last time it was checked the numbers looked like this (while granted this is sort of an old stat) I think it fair to say that more Americans play NS than any other one country.

This is Max's chart, just for source purposes.

What is it with the Netherlands? Most NationStates players come from the United States, followed by Britain, Australia, and Canada. But after that comes the Netherlands. We get more than a million hits per month from there. Interessant!

So you're saying that only Libertarians do what they think is right...? Well, that kinda explains a lot...

I just do what I think is right, and to hell with the lot of you!Likewise. I would be pretty right wing on some issues, and pretty left wing on others. I decide my own views, and if they fail to conform to a specific ideology, then I don't give a damn.

I'm a filthy hippy in most debates here but surprisingly centrist (although some bits of debate here make me more hippie, mostly those involving Corneliu).

It's because NS'ers tend to be young. Young people tend to be liberal.

What was it that Churchill said? Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has not heart. Any man who is over 30 and is not a conservative has no brains.

Ehh. I tend to agree with that. ~grin~

not to make a big stink, but:

Since a lot of lefties seem to be atheists...

wouldn't they be the soulless ones?

or did you use "soulless" to mean a disregard or hatred of soul music?

In that case...

get up-a (get on up)
get up-a (get on up)
get on the scene-a (get on up)
like a sex machine-a (get on up)

Bullshit! (But I figured some hippy would say that soon.)

Yeah, I've been really busy with my *ahem* capitalist pursuits. :D

Things haven't changed a bit since I've been gone though. Nothing new on the first page here, just the SOS and the same regurgitated opinions.

But I try to check in now and then to say hello.

Heh. Anyway, things have changed. Tink's been banned (for what, I will never know), Preebles has left for the Summer (or she's been abducted by aliens), and Kanabia is, shall we say... On the road, until Thursdayish. Yeah, and I will agree with you on that "regurgitated opinions" comment. Ugh, it can get so boring and "sameish" around here.

Tink got banned? Really? That's just bizarre.

I think what's missing (and always has been) on NS is more discussions concerning current events. It just always seems like a playground for those who are mostly unsure of what they think, and have to get opinions on abortion, homosexuality, guns, religion and the rest of the like.
Then there's we old timers who know what we believe and would like to apply that to something else other than the basiscs. There's not much of that happening, and probably never was.

I really can't find the energy to type a lengthy, well-thought out defense of gay marriage, capitalism, drug legalization, etc. anymore.

I'm pretty sure you can sympathize. ;) Hope you're having a great summer!

1: Yeah, I think it was a two-week ban.

2: General definitely needs more of that. I'd probably participate, but then again, the PC Gamer forums burned be out with too much of it.

3: Yeah, same here... PC Gamer forums burned me out, as I said.

4: Definitely. And, no, not really. This wasn't my celebrated summer.
