I've just updated the music on my iPod, and now when I click the "Eject" symbol to disconnect it, a window pops up and says "iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."

How do I fix this? Can I just disconnect the iPod or will that damage it? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Well, they are the master of digital music, and most popular MP3 player by FAR.

As for it being in another use, thats a windows problem, not apples problem.

Just unplug the thing. I do it all the time.

'Course, I set it up so that I could do that (long story), so no warrenty implied or otherwise here.

quit itunes and then drag and drop the ipod icon in the trash, see what it does then. Either that, or back everything up on your computer, deleate everything from the ipod, then put everything back on. What are you using win or mac?

That's just the question I was going to ask--are you using pc or mac. I've never had an issue like that with my mac, and I've never tried using my iPod with a pc.

except they cost 2 times more than a better mp3 player. iPod minis and Shuffles just make my blood boil. I got a 20GB mp3 player that displays pictures, has a mic/line in and a slot to dl digital pictures right onto it and has about the same surface area as a mini for the same price.

Then why does it outsell every other Mp3 player combined? It's also the most durable by far. ANd its apple, which is the best company, ever.

It's hard to mess up an ipod, it you just plug it in and put in your name, and if your music is already in intunes, IT DOES IT FOR YOU!

Oh for the love of... look, people - there's nothing clever about brand loyalties. There's nothing innately superior about one device or another. It's all just a means for you to shed money and feel good about what few choices you're in a position to make... consumer choices for a consumer society.

I used to be a major, and I mean major Mac booster. But they're priced so ludicrously high now, they've become unattainable - and frankly, the software apps I need to run are available for either OS, though more apps are available for PC than for Mac.

So at what point does the artifice of brand loyalty no longer make sense? For me, it came when I realized that I don't like or trust the new Mac OS, and actually found Windows XP Pro to be a more worthy successor to OS 9. For the money I spent on my new 'pimped out' PC, replete with all the bells and whistles anyone could want for the next five or six years, I'd have been forced to purchase an end-of-line Mac, which wouldn't even be supported in six months.

How would I know that? It's happened to me before. But remember - I was a brand loyalist. It feels rather foolish now, thinking back on how blindly devoted I was to a company that frankly, doesn't give much of a damn for its' customers. *Edit: much of a damn for its' non-wealthy customers.

Nonsense, OSX Tiger is just plain to use.

You can get a Mac Mini for 500 Dollars, hook it up to an old sh itty moniter and keyboard, and your set. And even a mac mini now will be supported for the next few years, Hell, they still support G3 iBooks.

Ever heard of things called "advertising" and "peer pressure", maybe that answers the "selling" question. Popularity means nothing. The Crazy Frog is popular, it doesnt mean it is any good.

Just pull it out. It won't actually harm it. The disconect is so that Windows programs don't complain that something they're using just got pulled out. As long as you have the stuff to modify it closed just unplug it. I do it all the time when I'm in a hurry!

The ipod is the best mp3 player out there. The ipod is very sleek and very durable compared to the other mp3 players like Creative Zen or Rio. The new one has this awesome click wheel making it even smaller than the previous ones. The Creative Zen has this crappy thumb pad which I heard will give you a thumb ache after a while. Not only that, the damn thumb pad prevents you from playing games due to its linear design. The ipod allows you to play games like Brick, Parachute, and believe it or not, Solitaire!! Everyone likes to play solitaire!!

The ipod has a ton more features than any other mp3 player. For example, you can keep audiobooks on the ipod so whenever I feel like hearing the book let's say "1984" by George Orwell, I can!! It has a calender as well as an alarm clock (which really pissed me off because my dad set the alarm clock for me and the music was so loud it woke me up). And the ipod has excellent technical support unlike other companies. So if you break the ipod by dropping it off the roof of the building, you can get a new one! There is nothing drastically bad about the ipod and the only people who hate them are people who either do not have them or people who are just plain jealous that the ipod rules.

It is my belief that Apple Computers Inc. has deliberately put flaws in each ipod that cause it to be incompatitible in some way or after some period of time, with non Apple computers. Everyone I know who runs an ipod on a PC (including myself) has had something bad happen to it. I. E. one fine day, mine decided it was bored of life and commited suicide. That's the only word I can find for it, the hard drive spontaneously wiped itself. My computer was not able to read the replacecment I got for it. I am planning to get a refund, and buy a different MP3 player.

Mine is the Archos Gmini220, but anything by Archos or Creative is good. It also depends on if you want watch movies and videos as Archos offers several "mp3" players that play mpeg movies as well for only a little more than what the photo iPod debuted at.

better yet, just go here:

I'm a Creative Zen user myself. You might want to press CTRL + ALT + DEL and close any programs or processes that could be causing the error message. Otherwise, just unplug it anyway. You could always just shut down the computer and then pull out the iPod, if you're worried. That shouldn't do any damage.

Archos has a horrible track record with MP3 players, I have a Acrhos 6000, it still works, but lacked things like good tech support, and a volume button. The Gemini is better, but they have a long way to go, and according to Cnet, Archos have alot of hard drive problems.

Apple has awsome tech support. And It takes ALOT to break an ipod.

I never really used the eject button, Just set it as a portable hard drive, wait a minute and then yank it.

that's why they first pioneered the hard drive mp3 player? and i'd rather save a few thousand dollars than have good tech support...as for the problem of the thread, just turn off your comp and unplug it.

sure my mp3 player randomly turns off, but im saving money! :) (it only happens on rare occassions)

OOC: And then apple came with the ipod and blew them out of the water?

The Early Archos are not jogproof, and the hard drives suck so much power, its funny.
