You may not be able to find a Big Mac in your neighborhood, but chances are good you will stumble across a medical marijuana club. In a comparison of the green leaf versus the Golden Arches, it's no contest in San Francisco.

There are two medical marijuana clubs for every McDonald's in The City — that's roughly 40 clubs to only 20 restaurants. Even adding the number of Burger Kings leaves fast-food franchises short of cannabis dispensaries. Only the ubiquitous Starbucks chain tops pot clubs, with a total of 71 coffee shops.

God I miss the Bay Area.

You work at Starbucks and sell pot...

I imagine the ratio is even harsher here in Santa Cruz. The only fast food place we have two of is Taco Bell (which baffles me since Santa Cruz is littered with Buritto bars). Our Mayor even once gave out pot in the square to protest a raid on W/WAM(I think that's the initials). I'm all for it, it's better for you than a Quarter Pounder.

Hah. Thats nothing.
Back in Cannon Beach they banned franchises, so there was NO fast food. That and any non-vacation house you cared to knock on was most likely a 'medical marajuana' club.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that there are 71 Starbucks in San Francisco?

Sort of, but I'm bothered even more by the fact that there are over 30 Wal-Marts in the Boston area.

There's only 20 mcdonalds in SF? wtf? I must have seen at least 5 on my field trip there alone, walking.

No, no, there were 20 within 30 miles of me. How many are in the Boston "area" I couldn't even hazard a guess at.

But still, 71 Starbucks?

Yeah, both are pretty bad.

Well, there are about 700,000 people in San Francisco, so that works out to what?--about one every 10,000 people or so? And what's worse is that Starbuck's isn't alone--there are a ton of Peets, local shops and street vendors, and now you can get coffee like that in places like Safeway.

Of course, it rarely gets above 70 degrees there, so you're constantly looking for something warm to drink.
