Songs you would play for someone special

For anyone who's a musician (or an aspiring one at that), what song would you play for that girl or guy you really like?
I'd probably play Rose Of Sharyn by Killswitch Engage with the singing tidied up a bit so people can hear all the words clearly. Great lyrics in that song.
If it was such a situation, I'd write a song, rather than use somebody else's.

Sweet Child O Mine, by Guns n Roses, but played more like the Sheryl Crowe acoustic version.

perhaps 'thank you', by dido?
but classic rock would probably hold more meaning for most people, if only because it's considered an age before music switched emotion with mass appeal.

I don't know, but it has to be a rock song without the words "I'd die for you" or any other cheesy bullshit in it. :)

Well... I'd go with the classics.
Hannenalks - Rote Rosen.
Ramones - I Wanna be Your Boyfriend.
The Damned - Love Song.
Or maybe The Slits - Love Und Romance... But that's more like saying you wanna skrew.

Have you ever listened to the song? It's not one that would make her do that. Nor are most of their songs.

I'm a cheesy goober, but I've used "Sing for the Day" by Styx, substituting the name of the object of my affection for "Hannah". It's just obscure enough not to be cliche. I just slow it down a bit and sing it with a bit more longing than in the recorded version.
And yes, how the truth rushes out
When it becomes honestly clear
I see your anxious and curious eyes
Oh, Hannah, I need you as much as you think you need me
Come to your window tonight and we'll fly to your dreams
I'll back you up-Dave Matthews

Belle and Sebastian - "There's Too Much Love"
--for the song to get ready to see that special someone,
Arab Strap - "The Shy Retirer"
--and for the song to drive them out when they become too much (though it works best if they're older, and it ought to be played loudly to get the full effect)
The Fall - "An Older Lover"

Red Sweater - The Aquabats (DO IT MAN! THIS SONG IS PERFECT)
Candy-O - The Melvins
Soldier of Love - Pearl Jam
Love of My Life - Santana
Dirty Love -Frank Zappa
Special Brew - Bad Manners
Two Fine People - Cat Stevens
Til There Was You - The Beatles

Hoochy Mama - The 69 Boys
Nut In Yer Eye - DJ Assault
Face Down, Ass Up (Thats The Way We Like To Fuck) - DJ Funk
Sex On The Beach - DJ Godfather
J/K ;) (well, not always)
but seriously, this is what I would play for my someone special...since my gigs invovle a mix of live performance, DJing and cheeky mangling/cutting up of records, this'll be a list both of what I would PLAY, on the keys, or "play" (or rather play with) on my decks:
Fur Elise - W.A. Mozart (as something beautiful for her to wake up to...words aren't always neccessary
Learning To Fly - Tom Petty (for those times when life has thrown her a curve ball, so to speak)
Dove Song - Nicolette (this ones a record. combination of early 90s dance/house and jazz, sung by a true Jazz Diva...for when I know she's holding back from sharing her pain, or having trouble coming clean about something. The chorus is "I'm a Dove Baby/And I can see right through things")
Travellin Light - Billie Holiday (I'd play, while she sang, a goodbye song)
Hello, I love You - The Doors
Imagine - John Lennnon (for times when we're both in pain)
Take 5 - Dave Brubeck Quartet (I play this for her when she gets back from a really hard day at work, it always helps at least a bit)
Lovebuzz - Nirvana
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
etc.
You guys should be more creative. Come up with something original!

If a guy ever wrote me a song I would totally melt. Even if it totally sucked, it would just be so sappy and wonderful!!!!
Being a jazz geek I would also lose it if a guy sang me something like Frank Sinatra ("The Way You Look Tonight" or "They Can't Take That Away From Me") but unless you have a big band behind you it might not work out so well.
Since that isn't likely, I think anything nice and acoustic. Not from the 80s, it tends to be overly cheesy.
But really, I don't think it matters. ANY song and I would probably burst from happiness.

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
You know Ian Curtis hung himself after that song was released the first time?
And oh, also, if I were a guy and wanted to serenade my lady, I'd probably choose Throw Your Arms Around Me by Hunters and Collectors. It's gotta be the best Oz-made love song. That or Love Your Way by Powderfinger if you wanted something a bit more contemporary.

As someone who HAS had a bad original song played for them.... it's almost embarassing.

Yeah, though I think She's Lost Control gives a little more insight into why he did (epiplepsy and a tremendous lack of self-confidence) Its the kind of song you play when you feel like throwing yerself off a bridge (love will tear us apart, that is) Its the ultimate final goodbye song. I meant Travelling Light as a temprorary goodbye song.

If you performed someone elses song for someone you liked without the expressed consent of the original artist/songwriter, you'd be in violation of copyright laws anyway, so why be paranoid that someone might steal your list of songs to perform?? :p

The Sisters of Mercy- Leonard Cohen
It's not a sugarcovered, mush pop song, it's just really beautiful and really sexy. I think that's the best kind of romantic song.

For most people I care about or are close to, there are songs that remind me of them or I link to them. So it varies. From hopelessly soppy stuff to utterly unromantic random things like a song of sounds effects....

Gamma Ray - Lake of Tears.
On the edge of the rainbow
Where eagles learn to fly
All of our dreams, they seemed so clear
Into the morning
Into the light of dawn
We're flying higher than before
And when I see the light
that's shining from your eyes
Even brighter than before
We're riding the wind
to reach the golden dawn
We have done it all before
Here I stand
Call on you again
But my heart is filled with fear
Like an eternal flame
Our love will remain
As we sail the lake of tears
Sometimes I wonder
You're so close but you're so far
Seems life will never be the same
Sigh for the morning
To find the light of day
Dream of fortune fades away
Here I stand
Call on you again
But my heart is filled with fear
Like an eternal flame
Our love will remain
As we sail the lake of tears
Here I stand
Call on you again
But my heart is filled with fear
Like an eternal flame
Our love will remain
As we sail the lake...
Here I stand
Call on you again
But my heart is filled with fear
All the tears that I've cried
For the love of my life
As I sailed the lake of tears
Like an eternal flame
Our love will remain
As we sail the lake of tears

OK, here are a few ones from Rainer Maria (the least emo of all the emo bands)... sounds a bit like good ol' ska sometimes.
Rainer Maria - "Mystery and Misery"
misrepresented --
initially you looked to me like
you'd been sainted
but now I am acquainted
with your dark eyes and dirty mind
Rainer Maria - "Automatic Beauty"
i can see
you're have automatic beauty
it takes
our breath away
Oh and add that *beautiful* song my Mojave 3... (alt.country from the UK):
Mojave 3 - "In Love with a View"
I had a plan
That was built on thinking too long
Canadian winters
At home with your sisters
the romance was hard to ignore
You were beautiful
I was happy to fall
So happy to fall

At our wedding, our first dance was on "Just the way you are", version by Diana Krall. I think the original was by Billy Joel.
Don't go tryin', some new fashion,
Don't change the color of your hair, mmmmm
You always have my unspoken passion,
Although I might not seem to care,
I don't want clever conversation,
Never want to work that hard,
I just want someone that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are
