Talk, debate, discuss, argue or share your stories
about the 4TH of July.

As a native cuban, I will proudly wear my shirt that says
America Celebrate Freedom.

I as an american citizen respect President Bush,
that is my right as an american citizen as it is your right not to.

Only in America, I love America.

It is also my right to try to convince as many people as possible of Bush's stupidity and the stupidity of half of America for voting him back in. As for the 4th of July, I personally do not need a national holiday to feel pride for my country. Though I feel unhappy over political decisions over the past years, I really hope people can still view America as a light of democracy. America and George W. Bush are not the same, please remember that!!!!

I wonder how long it is before the anti-America idiots show up and tank the thread...not the anti-Bush types who are otherwise neutral to America but hate the jackass running it (I didn't vote for him, by the way.) Not the ones who just don't like the government. I refer to the ones who hate the people as well, lump all Americans into the same category (arrogant, right-wing, Christian fundamentalists who love Bush and hate all liberals) and laugh at anything bad that happens to the U.S.

That said, happy 4th, and don't get too carried away with the fireworks.

Alright. Here we go.

I know there is a lot of America-bashing, and I'm included in it sometimes. I think the direction of our country right now is a bit precarious, and Our Fearless Leader scares me a bit.

However, coming up around the 4th of July I have to remember something - the reason I am here. I am a first-generation American - my mother's family emmigrated from Germany in the 1950s.

My grandmother is fiercly patriotic because she does not see the America I see, she remembers the America that saved her when she was a kid.

As a child growing up in WW2 Germany, she was under the Nazi thumb at all times. She was forced to say the heil unwillingly, her brother was nearly drafted into the Nazi regime, and her family had to run from their town since it was being bombed out.
They carried only what they could put on their backs and arms. They just started running. They stayed in refugee camps all over Germany. She was young, she had no shoes, it was winter. Her family came home after a long time- her home was gone. What was remaining was inhabited by some other family. Luckily, a doctor took them in in a spare room.

She tears up when she tells me this part of the story - the Americans came. She remembers going outside and seeing the US Flag on planes overhead, dropping supplies. The American soldiers handing the children candy. She remembers how that felt, how she was suddenly free because of them.

She started her family young, and moved them over to the US as soon as she could. With this in such close proximity to me, I feel extreme gratefulness to be able to live in America. I mean, we may have some really shitty stuff going on and Bush may be changing a lot, but I cannot forget the way my grandmother smiles when she sees American flags.

That is something that cannot be replaced, cannot be touched. Yes, Bush is wack or whatever, but as an American, I am so grateful to be living here.
I've been given opportunities and freedom that may not have been come by so easily elsewhere.

I am blessed.

Happy Fourth.

Fireworks laws are weird. In Ohio they are legal to shoot off but are illegal to buy and right across the river in Kentucky they are illeagl to shoot off but legal to buy. How messed up is that?

Beautiful story. There's nothing as sacred as a child's view of things. So simple, and so beautiful. No grays in a child's eyes.

It IS sad what's going on in America today. We've all been brainwashed by the government. It's disgusting and makes me sick. The 9/11 Commission Report was a sham. They knew it was going to happen, and they let it happen, and even more possibly orchestrated it. I live in NY, and people have banded together and sent their own funds together to enlighten everyone of the REAL facts. A book has even been published : The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions And Distortions by David Ray Griffin. It's sick is what it is. The proof is unbelievable. And they've turned the majority of Americans to their cause with bullshit about patriotism and God. It's a sad fuckin day for me... and it ain't looking better anytime soon.

God Bless America!

We are now 4hrs and 40minutes till the 4th Arrives here in my hometown.

May our nation continue to grow and prosper.

May this nation remain free and strong.

God Bless our Founding Fathers (yes I know they've been dead for over a hundred years!):

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag,
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'Neath the Red, White and Blue.
Where there's never a boast or a brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eyes on the grand old flag!

There's a feeling comes a-stealing,
And it sets my brain a-reeling,
When I'm listening to the music of a military band.
Any tune like "Yankee Doodle"
Simply sets me off my noodle,
It's that patriotic something that no one can understand.

"Way down South, in the land of cotton",
Melody untiring,
Ain't that inspiring?
Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll join the Jubilee!
And that's going some,
For the Yankees, by gum!
Red, white and blue, I am for you!
Honest, you're a grand old flag!

You're a Grand Old Flag
You're a high flying flag
And forever, in peace, may you wave!
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave!

Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White, and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the Grand Old Flag!

I'm a cranky hanky panky,
I'm a dead square, honest Yankee,
And I'm mighty proud of that old flag
That flies for Uncle Sam.

Though I don't believe in raving
Ev'ry time I see it waving,
There's a chill runs up my back that makes me glad I'm what I am.

Here's a land with a million soldiers,
That's if we should need 'em,
We'll fight for freedom!

Hurrah! Hurrah! For every Yankee tar
And old G.A.R.
Ev'ry stripe, ev'ry star.
Red, white and blue,
Hats off to you
Honest, you're a grand old flag!

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true

Well, if you would have worded the question slightly better, I'd say 8 am. However...seeing as "@ 7 am" only qualifies as 1 half hour, you'd take the last one at 7am and have two left over...

ok, i cant word these things right. ur first answer was right.

here's a couple others: 1)How many animals did moses take on the ark?**
2)How is it possible for a six year old who is afraid of the dark to turn off a light and run 12 feet to their bed before it gets dark if they didnt use a divice to flip the light switch?
3) 3 bare light bulbs in one room are connected to switches in a room that is out of sight from the first one. if only 1 light can be on at a time, how can u tell which light is connected to which switch by going into the room with the lightbulbs only once?
4) An archer has only 60 arrows and a bow. if he shoots the first arrow @ noon and continues to shoot 1 arrow every minute thereafter, at wat time will he run out of arrows?

The following speech touched me so much that I will quote it in my country's honor:

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.

Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July; and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.

And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to live on.

We're going to survive."

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

God bless America!

A happy 4th of July to all you Americans over the pond! I'll be bearing it in mind today, thinking of the country I love and hope to, before too long, be able to celebrate the 4th in each and every year (I was there for it last year and I wish I was this year.).

America is greater than differences in political opinions.

America is greater than division over the President.

America is greater than mistakes she has made.

America is greater than social trends, or misguided emphasis on beauty.

America is greater than fifty states, one disctrict, and three hundred million people.

America is a symbol for democracy and for justice. And sure, sometimes it goes wrong. It always has, in all nations, and always will. That's not the point, though. Just as once there was legally-sanctioned discrimination, now it is changed and continuing to do so. Today's injustices and errors will be worked on. So will tomorrow's.

America will live as long as people believe in freedom and in justice. Whether by the same name, or some name we cannot comprehend the language of, it will always be that beautiful land. No, not land; it will always be that beautiful idea.

Thank you to those who have fought for America. Whatever the conflict, whatever the theatre, whatever the politics, those of you who fight because you believe America is worth fighting for have my respect and gratitude beyond words.

Thank you to those who have fought for America in the courtrooms and town halls. Thank all of you who disagree with me in matters of national policy, on fair levels of taxation, on the nature and function of the government. America would be nothing without those furious debates and enraged debators.

But most of all, thank you to those of you who are ordinary, decent people, who want nothing more than to go about your lives in peace, to live in security and comfort, and to ensure a good life for your children. You are the truest Americans of all, and the nation is built on your shoulders.

I am very far from a religious man, but the swell of pride and hope I feel falls desperately short of mundane description. Therefore, whether it be God, or Allah, or Buddha, or some being we have no name for, may they bless and watch over America, and all the nations of the world.

Let all Americans heed my warning and listen to my words: We are heading for another civil war. Liberals versus Conservatives, Left versus Right, Demos. versus Repubs. Let us use the Fourth to come together, at least for one day. We are all Americans, and this is a celebration for all. Heed my words, enjoy this day...

I.
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

II.

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

III.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight and the gloom of the grave
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

IV.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Bles't with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the God that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Thank you, Begark. A beautiful post. I'm glad to see that there are some people here who aren't taking this opportunity to do their Bush-bashing, and are just celebrating our country's birthday.

To those who have expressed negative views about Bush: I respect your right to hold your opinions, but, please, you could have expressed them in other threads. There are plenty of anti-Bush, anti-Iraq war, etc., threads out there. Please, save it for those threads.

Happy Independence Day, everyone. God bless America, and God bless and protect our brave soldiers around the world.

Proof? Orchestrations? Bull. 9/11 was one of the worst acts of WAR (yes, war ) on America, and people want to say that it was brought on by our government? These are the same people that claim that Bush is an idiot, so how can they turn him into a genius for their own political agenda? It's hypocritical. Bush is a genius. He saw what happened to America, and unlike pretty-boy Clinton, he fought back and declared war on the people who want to kill the ordinary, decent Americans who only want security and freedom. How is it that we are no longer allowed to declare war or allowed to fight back when someone attacks us? This is more liberal, Bush-bashing bull that is only used for their own agenda. The liberals were displaced by the American people because they were leading this country down a dark road. They have no control in the government anymore, and they are scared, so they start the partisan politics and the political division that brings our country down. That course of action is treasonous. For thirty years the liberals have been in control of the Congress. Now it is our turn. I know for a fact that conservatives did not cause this kind of division in our country, and I know for sure that they NEVER used the judicial filibuster. In fact, that had never been used in all of the 228 years of America. So all of you that bashed Bush because he wore a flight suit and no other president had ever worn combat gear while in office, stop your hypocracy. Your "leaders" did the same when they used the filibuster, because they were afraid of losing their power, and their programs that put money in their pockets. Every time a liberal has been in power since FDR, our country has come out worse. Lyndon Johnson: Vietnam, nuff said. (Another point on that, when Lyndon was in office, the media gave him a lot of good coverage, until Tet. The second a Conservative took office, they smeared him every chance they got.) Jimmy Carter: Oil crisis, Desert One, the wussification of America. Clinton: the first WTC attack (he did nothing in retaliation, which told the terrorists that America is too scared to fight back), backing down on his foreign politics, increasing funding to the welfare system, which keeps people lazy and unwilling to work, which in turn becomes a drain on the economy. Also, the economic slump that happened only months after Bush was in office, that was caused by Clinton. The economy acts very slow, so it takes years for a presidents economic policy to take effect. The liberal courts have also declared war on conservatives. The courts and media are trying to illegalize religion, personal freedoms like smoking, and your right to privacy. Just look at the latest court decision on eminent domain. All five of the liberal justices says it is okay for state and local governments to take your land if it will increase tax revenues. That is all liberals are about, increasing taxes to increase their programs so they can get more votes and more money.

My last point is the fact that people say that Bush stole the election, and half o the voters are stupid for voting for him. What we saw in November 2004 is the American people standing up and saying "No More! No more will America back down from those who threaten us. No more will we allow the left to attack patriotism and the love of country. No longer will we allow our government to take our land and our freedoms. No More!" Bush recieved the highest number of votes in HISTORY. The American people are stepping up and saying that it is our time to lead, and we can do better than you. And we picked Bush because he is exacly what you are afraid of. A strong leader that will not back down from your baseless attacks. The 58 million people that voted for Bush knew exactly what they were doing: voting for their right to live. For eight years the government backed down from every attack (WTC bombing, both African embassy bombings, and the USS Cole. All were acts of war, and all were ignored by the Clinton government.) And for eight years America was shown to be a coward. Now, America is fighting back, and "we will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail."

Happy Independence Day to every American that is still a patriot, to every American who wants security and happiness, and our right to live to be protected from all agressors, both foreign and domestic. America is and will remain the greatest source of freedom and liberty the world has known.

Fighting for your freedom is not a crime. It is a duty, of every American.

Woody said it all: We have a beautiful country founded on wonderful ideals, and we have to keep working to make it what it can be.

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

Chorus

In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

OK, look. I'm sorry if I appear whiny here, but God is just the English name for a deity. In Arabic, this is "illah". The name "Allah" is God's proper name, and it's in Arabic. The "God" you speak of is the same as Allah, except we don't believe in the trinity, just like the Jews. Christian Arabs, and Arabic-speaking Jews, also refer to God as Allah. In some old English-language Bibles, Allah is mentioned. The Aramaic word is Ellah I think, or something similar, and Hebrew its Eloh, some say Elohim which is the "respectful plural" found in Semitic languages. Please stop differentiating, it bothers me a lot. I realize you weren't trying to be disrespectful and mocking like some people when they say Allah, but you should know they are the same thing, and it's not just a Muslim thing.

*cough* I didn't mean 80% on the button. By that I mean that the greater portion of America is ignorant of other nations and are overpatriotic, but not all of them. I know a great many Americans have fair views and realistic egos, but unfortunately they are outnumbered.

I'm not all that proud of my country, because right now I personally think the government sucks. However, it seems that you're bitter. When your country is the most powerful on earth, someone is bound to be proud. All I was doing is just stating that Britain, in fact, no longer has the best Navy.

Oh no. don't worry about whining. In fact, is there anything else? ANYTHING AT ALL?

*cough* I didn't mean 80% on the button. By that I mean that the greater portion of America is ignorant of other nations and are overpatriotic, but not all of them. I know a great many Americans have fair views and realistic egos, but unfortunately they are outnumbered.

Yeah well, on what basis do you make that judgement? These forums? TV? Voting? It's a stereotype is what it is. If you judge the body of americans by selected 'representatives' (like those who bother to vote, or those who make TV programs, or those who join these forums) you're not giving us a fair shot, any more than I am giving French people a fair shot by judging them cowards based on losing in WWII.

Of course, Americans never owned slaves, americans never killed foreigners, americans never intervened in foreign countries when they really shoudln't have.
In fact britain was the driving force behind the abolition of slavery. britain brought railways and countless improvements to the lives of millions. We installed legal systems and were the one of the few european powers who granted independence to their colonies peacefully rather than fight them (france, belgium, portugal) or lose them through wars (germany). I never said America was great. I simply stated the facts. I will say though, that America never controlled an extremely large empire. And they aren't responsible for Africa's situation (which would not exist if it weren't for Europeans). Britain abolished slavery, after they installed it and made money off it. Maybe you didn't fight wars. For one thing, you lost the American one, which is why you were easy with Canada. For another thing, you kept all of your other countries until they were ready to revolt and then let them go. You milked them for all they were worth in the mean time.

Anyway, the point of the discussion was you remarking towards my comment "Not anymore" referring to Britain's navy. The point is, it wasn't "Hey I love America, Britain sucks!!!!". It was stating a fact. I don't think America is great, but it is the most powerful. Then you turned it around to "Yeah, but what does it do with it?", which implies Britain did something oh so grand, when in reality, when it was in power, it turned the world upside down. Now, instead of being individual, the rest of the world is Eurocentric, and English is the state language in many of the countries. Africa is screwed over, and random states exist carved out of old european empires. The world was seriously affected by Britain in the height of her power, and not for the better. The United States has not affected the world in such a way. I suppose you can be proud of that. When the US declines, it won't have made a huge impact on the world. Sure, it helped win some world wars, it led UN for a while....it was the supreme power for a while. But it never really changed the entire world. Although, the changes made by Britain are nothing to be proud of.

First of all, you may have noticed this article is entitled "Voters deliver blow to Nazi BNP's hopes." Now, I think this may just indicate what the rest of the article is saying. It also goes on to say that BNP votes have fallen by hlaf and that out of the 101 coucillors they tried to field, only 8 were elected. These people stand in two towns. Blackburn and Burnley. These are two of the poorest towns in Britain and many of the white population there are known for their militancy in reponse to recent waves of immigration there.
In fact, the BNP came sixth in the election of the London Assembly, which is focused upon London. Britain has amny political parties, but the majority of them ie The Monster Raving Loony Party, do not expect to receive many votes. The fact that the BNP came sixth in the London Assembly elections proves nothing, as they failed to get any councillors elected s their vote was so small.
Perhaps, when reading this article, you came across the name of Le Pen, the French far-right leader who runs one of the largest parties in France. The BNP leader Nick Griffin failed to get any new councillors elceted, lost five of his existing councillors, and still has no european mps. You may also see that the article is a year old, in which time we have had another election in which the BNP fialed to elect a single mp. May I poin out that this is in a country where political parties are much easier to set up and popularise than in america. Less than 9000 people voted BNP in local elections in 2003 . By 2004 this had halfed. The population of Britain is around 58 million or so. You work it out.

Wow.

This whole thread started out as merely someone's attempt to wish a happy Independence Day to the USA.

Now it seems there's a big ol' steaming pile of nationalist horseshit clogging up the works. Let me see if I can clear some of it up.

1. Spelling/grammar: "Bad grammar is something up with which I will not put."
--Winston Churchill

Speaking of Churchill, one of my best friends, an infantry captain who just got back from Baghdad in February, is a Democrat running for office here in Snohomish County. His middle child of three boys is named Winston. Remember that for every steroetypical American, there's at least one who is full of apparent contradictions. Do you know how hard it is to be a progressive in the US military? I can imagine that only being gay would be harder.

2. American power: Someone posted that "America hasn't changed the world" like Britain did during her prime. What a load of crap. Nuclear weapons anyone? Moon landing? The telephone? The television? The internet? Mass production? Just because the US didn't create "Trans-Jordan", "Iraq" or "Kuwait" doesn't mean that we didn't change the world, either for the better OR the worse. Ask anyone in Central America how they feel about US power. I'm sure you'll get responses that sound similar to those former British colonies, regardless of how much technology, law and "order" they imposed. It is always, as ever, a matter of perspective.

3. British arrogance: How easy it is to sit back and claim that it's all been done and we did it. Well, when you're Britain, it's actually very easy. Once again, though, it all depends on your perspective. I'm reasonably certain the people of West Africa weren't so fond of being carted up and sent to the colonies as slaves. And insisting that America had a hand in slavery is like insisting that the river is to blame for the flood. Mass slavery in service of capitalism is a British invention. America institutionalized it, but you set it up.

4. Racism in both nations: I'd say it's just about equal. Different, but equal. Most Americans wear their racism on their sleeves, spewing that bullshit out in the open where everyone can get a good, strong whiff of it and either claim that it smells good or rebel against it. English reserve, for the most part, keeps overt racism bottled up save for the aforementioned marginal BNP and others who've lost their sense of decorum.

Speaking of the BNP, the American "equivalent" mentioned in a few posts (the "Knight" party or whatever nonsense) is the public/political face of racism in the US? Hardly. Any continued institutionalization of racism here in the US is covert and largely relegated to campaign contributions. In its way, it's worse than the BNP, because the BNP at least is in the open. The Knights or any kind of "Christian Militia" or similar White Power brigades are there for those without money or power who want to trumpet their ignorance. The BNP wears it like a badge of pride. Which would you think is worse? Surely the bumpkins (AND NOT ALL ARE IN THE SOUTH, MIND YOU!) who are stupid and proud of it (especially those using the "mud people" argument  ) are there to distract from those who are behind the scenes contributing their wealth, ambition and power to mainstream causes and politicians. THAT is more dangerous than the BNP could ever hope to be.

I am glad to be an American because I can look at that hideous song posted earlier -- "You're A Grand Old Flag" -- and see it for what it is. Mindless patriphilia -- "where there's never a boast or brag"? Riiiiiiiiight. And to the person who applauded the inclusion of the other three verses of "The Star-Spangled Banner" -- why? The other verses are largely unheard because the lyrics lose steam after the first verse. In short, the rest of the poem sucks. Bad meter, bad rhymes and crappy imagery. Stick with the one verse we all know -- or do we?

I'd wager that a majority of my countrymen, on a survey, wouldn't be able to get through the whole thing without screwing it up. Hell, I once went to an exhibition hockey game between a team from the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln and some corporation's team at Key Arena here in Seattle. It was the 8am game of a whole day of exhibition games. A female naval officer came out with the colors to sing the Anthem. There weren't more than 20 people in that huge arena built to house 18,000. You know what? This US Navy ensign screwed up both the words AND the melody.

The point is, EVERY nation is replete with flaws AND victories. I am GLAD to be an American. I am not ALWAYS proud. America's flaws are writ very large because of its influence and grandeur -- why not its successes? I will ruefully admit to every Bay of Pigs or My Lai or Atomic Bomb or Central America -- but I will JUST AS CHEERFULLY REJOICE in every Berlin Airlift or D-Day or Wright Brothers or Marshall Plan.

So happy Independence Day to my country, the United States of America. I don't love it when it's wrong, but neither do I hate it when it's right. It is what it is and will be what it will be. I'm glad to be along for the ride.

Just a quick thing I want to say. Is there any real point in pissing and moaning about Bush? He's been elected. If you wanted to do something about it (this is pointed towards Americans, mind you) you could have voted against him. You had all the information you needed to make a decision two years ago. If you're not happy he got elected, tough. You'll just have to live somehow. And if you can't do that, make sure to get both barrels in your mouth. Quit whinning. Doesn't do anyone any good. Start doing research now. Find out who's running next time. Make an informed decision. It doesn't matter if you vote Republican or Democrat. They are the same party in the end and have the same interests.
For those of you outside America, if you don't like what we're doing, prove you can do better. Improve your own country. For those of you who are Americans, do the same. I would hope we all have better things to do then bitch about places we've never been.
And before one of you even bothers saying it, I don't care if you have been in the places you're complaining about. Still doesn't do anyone any good. If you didn't like it, feel free to never go back. I'm sure everyone will be much happier that way.

Oh, you're gonna catch it now. How dare you suggest the US offered more than the most marginal of aid to Allied forces? (Note this is not my view, I am being sarcastic about the people who will start spewing crap about it. In seriousness, yours has been the best opst in the thread for some time now.)

Not 80%!? Just somwhere damn close right?

Here is another question for you: Have you ever been to America? You seem to know alot of interesting stats about our country. You must be from one of those 'educated' European countries...

And whats wrong with being "overpatriotic"? Is my love for my country deemed 'evil' over there?

Way to assume and misunderstand, for the entire post as a matter of fact.

I've been to America on many occasions, I have lots of family down there. As for the 80%, it's not a freaking statistic, the next person who says "ooooo way 2 pull da factz on me whats ur source o wait u dont have 1 LOL!!@!!!1", read my prior post. I just put that number up because there aren't as many rational people in America as the opposite. Next. No I'm not from Europe. You know what they say, when you make assumptions you make an ASS out of U and MUMPTIONS. I'm Canadian, that's what I said in my prior post, and that's why I get all sorts of American being flung at me, whether it's on television, people dropping in from across the border, or my being the across the border. But yea I'm educated. Is that deemed 'evil' over in America?

As for the overpatriotic comment, love for your country is great. But when you begin thinking that your country is the only country in the world that's worth existing and you think that everything should be part of it or work for it, that's when it's getting too extensive. Too much of a good thing. And I do believe I've addressed everything.

Random Semi-Related Story: My mother had an American visiting Canada on business one time. He was the owner of a big company and had to stay a couple of nights for a business meeting. So while on the phone with him before the trip my mother told him, "Make sure you see the moose while you're here." Of course he got curious. So she told him that moose wander the streets of Toronto at three in the morning every night and made it sound like a real spectacle as a joke.

After the trip, the guy called her back, and complained, "I stayed up every night this week until 3 in the morning and I didn't see a single damn moose." To which, upon being told to our family, resulted in laughter and merriment.

True story.

Happy Independence Day, America...fortunately, back in the 'old country' it's the 5th of July now. Ah yes, on this day in 1776, we were thinking 'It won't last'...

I'm sure we had a plan b somewhere...

It's armchair Rambos like this guy that give Americans a bad name!

Armchair Rambo? Because I am willing to keep the spirit of America alive in the world? Becaause I will defend her at any cost? Because I will not patronize people from other countries because they look down on America for being on top? If anything it is patriots like me who need to stand up and say we will not back down from people like you who want to make patriotism and love of country illegal in this country. For thirty years liberals have managed to do just that. You started in Vietnam by taking away the honor in serving your country, you murdered babies with Roe v. Wade, and the you turned around and destroyed my God because it offends you. Well now it is our turn, and we are bringing back God because it offends US. We are saving the lives of the unborn because it offends US. We are standing up and fighting for our country and our way of life because our enemies offend US. People like you are what makes America look bad. The world wants us out of the number one spot because we are not European (heck, we declared our independence from Europeans) or the fact that we have bases worldwide. Guess what - that's how you get to be a world superpower. But we hold no colonies, we occupy no foreign lands, we never invade another country without pretext, and every country we have EVER invaded has come out beter than before. all you have to do is read into history. Europe can be so ungrateful, considering that without us you would have been under Nazi rule for a long time. And I will admit that the Austrailians helped us out in the Pacific theatre, though considering that Japan was on their doorstep, they would've fought them anyway. But you know, if Britain and France had listened to Wilson and went along with his Fourteen Points instead of trying to seek revenge with the Treaty of Versailles, World War Two would haven't happened like it did, with the mass exterminations of Jews, Gypsies, and Catholics, and your countries lying in ruin. And yet again, for a third time, we helped you guys out with the Marshall Plan. We sent aid and suplies into your countries, we helped you with a major part of your rebuilding plans, and still we are the bad guys. Every time some one attacks us or threatens our country in some way, it is illegal (only according to you) for us to strike back. Well back off. America is back, it's strong, and it's ready to take it's enemies on. And we will.

Here I have to cry BS! If wasn't for Operation Overlord succeeding, Europe would NOT be under Nazi rule but that of the USSR. You only need to see this by viewing the EASTERN FRONT! The USSR was tossing the Germans back and were winning. They didn't need our help to beat them. If the Soviets had taken Germany before D-Day, we all would be in a major bind.

This seems to be an unusual place to be having this discussion..lol

However, I agree with you Corneliu, but one could also see it as it was most certainly in America's interest to do what they did, more so than the "saving" attitude or argument, because had the USSR taken over Europe, one certainly could speculate the Americans might not of won the cold war. Maybe they would of, who knows, but the theory is plausible, so lets just all be grateful it turned out the way it did. ;)

Even I am unsure if we would've actually won the cold war if the USSR did take Germany before we sat foot on European Soil. I am glad that it turned out the way it did. What is it that Patton said? "America and Britain are destined to rule the world?" leaving out the Russians :D

Anyway, this is a good place to have it because we are talking about independence :D

Last night me and a few friends had 30-40 Roman Candles going at once while simultaneously shooting off four batteries of fireworks. It was nice, with the exception of all powder that was falling from the Roman Candles when they were going off.

My native cuban cousin was born on the 3rd of July, he missed it by one day early.

So over the weekend we celebrated a combination birthday party and 04 Th of July family dinner gathering.

We are proud of America no matter who is President, I love America and my family does too.

At the family dinner party we had a relative who just legally emigrated to Miami direct from Cuba 3 months ago, you should hear the stories of hardship and how happy cubans in Cuba are to be living in Cuba, and
when he compares it to the USA and the freedoms
and blessings he has here.

We also had his sister who emigrated legally from Cuba to the USA via Spain about 7 years ago, she is a talented guitar playing music teacher who performed a few patriotic american songs on her guitar for us in honor of the 4TH of July like The Star Spangled Banner.

There are millions of decent patriotic americans who celebrated the 4TH of July and appreciate the rights and blessings they have, but I guess it takes an immigrant that dosent have those rights and blessings in his nation of origin to appreciate and not take for granted the rights and blessings they have here.
