There's a "Do you like REAL punk?" thread, which had me thinking. What's your favorite punk subgenre?

I like the old Glam (New York Dolls, old David Bowie), and English proto-punk (like The Who, and later The Pretenders... before they went soft)

I listen to a wide variety of punk rock, mostly smaller bands in my area or all over the Midwest, so I really wish you'd made this a multiple choice poll, because I honestly couldn't choose just one. I've got about seven favoured local bands, which is a very differing sound spread.......ergo, I vote that your choices suck! But I mean it in the kindest, lovingest way.

That's okay, I wouldn't add it if it were going to hurt my feelings. I know they suck. :p

pop punk shouldnt be there. pop punk means simple plan and gc and those wussy bands.

PUNK ROCK. is amazing. personally, my favorite kind of punk is on the hardcore side, which could be like american nightmare... or the straight edge hardcore scene like champion, OMDB, Stay Gold, and Go It Alone...

but my favorite punk based band ever is Minor Threat.

Pop Punk also includes Pink, one of my favorite artists of all time.

Phone call for Ham-o. Ben Weasel is on the line, and Pete Shelley is also trying to get through but just getting the 'engaged' sound.

I was fairly convinced that Punk WAS a sub-genre...

It gets somewhat ludicrous when one draws a tree of sub-genres and their sub-genres... for example, powerviolence is a sub-genre of grindcore, which is a sub-genre of hardcore, which is a sub-genre of punk rock, which is a sub-genre of rock...

It is. There are subgenres of subgenres, you know.

So...we're talking about different subgenres of something that's already a subgenre...which is why you don't have many votes...
