Every day there is yet another report of some yob or gang of yobs attacking someone for no other reason than 'for kicks'. The current trend for 'happy slapping' is getting way out of hand! Any ideas as to how this can be stopped?

My suggestions would be:
Better policing to crack down on them.
Compulsory Military service to teach em respect.

And why, in this country, are kids who are basically thugs treated better than the kids that are actually ok? I am refering to the social work mentality of buying them treats and stuff for being 'good' (which is still 'bad' but seen as good relative to their normal behaviour)

However, this happy slapping is getting way out of hand - just recently, 3 schoolboys raped a girl from their school while recording it on their mobile phone.

Also, a guy was beaten to death by a group of youths because he was a non-smoker and didnt have a light!

Something needs to be done and the law isnt doing it.

Vigilante groups will be next - and I will support them if it gets the job done!

Well, eventually if it keeps up long enough, we will probably see vigilante groups alright. With mortality rates on those who get caught being rather high. Then we'll see action. But it will probably be on the wrong side.

I can't say I know a lot about the problem, but I think we have similar problems here. I think giving them work would help. There's nothing like money, a mean boss and a sense of accomplishment to set your head straight.

Take the law into your own hands. Arm yourself with whatever you have available, get together with some friends, ride the subway or tube or whatever you guys call it pretending you and your friends don't know each other. When a gang of "happy slappers" approaches one of you everyone in your group suddenly pulls out their weapons and beats the hell out of those little punks.

When they do it, punch them in the face, and let their friends record *that*. And then punch them in the face, too. It'll stop soon enough.

Y'see, what you do is record that beating, then by some air time on every radio station in town, and replay that recording over and over.

I will absolutely not be glad about this, because the only reason they're not is due to the illegality of firearms in this pussy nation, which would rather spend tax money on illiterate yobs with absolutely no desire for self-improvement than committing funding to working on gifting youngsters, schools in general, the NHS, etc. etc..

But if we were legally allowed to carry guns, it would mean we could actually defend ourselves. Whilst one person against eight has an inevitable outcome if only melee weapons are involved, things get a bit tricker with guns.

Groups of young men running around the streets with a penchant for taking pleasure in destruction and the pain of others. And if we are to follow the ideas of A Clockwork Orange then the only way to stop this type of behavior is to eliminate the desire in the person who is commiting these atrocious acts.

Of course this would lead more into the realm of Brave New World and the ideas of hypnopeadic brainwashing and may be a little extreme for the rest of society.

But seriously, the last time hooliganism was a huge problem, vast amounts of E seemed to change attitudes nicely. Maybe these bastards just need a little love? Or maybe a hope of something decent in life? Slapping cuffs on them and throwing them in jail won't solve the problem (long walks off short piers will, but wouldn't go over too well). How about sentencing them to chain gangs? Ones with good begaviour get to go on to a real job, get some training and education and hopefully, mend their ways. But there'd have to be zero-tolerance for breaking any rules or laws. Its a half-assed solution, but it'd probably work better than whats already in place.

For the first solution, its called sleeping with the fishes. Very effective means of ending bad behavior =p

But as for the 2nd, you just need to be able to get these thugs up on assault charges and long jail sentences where they end up breaking rocks. Do it often enough and when word gets around, the happy slapping culture will die a natural death.

At the moment, I don't think anyone is charging them on anything. Much less catching them.
