How often do you drink alcohol?
On which occasions?
And what kind of drink do you prefer?

I drink alcohol about twice a week (at the moment, I dont go to school anymore and do not yet study, and therefore I party quite often).
Mostly i drink alcohol in discos, bars and at parties (nealy always i go out).
And basically i like wine and whisk(e)y isn't bad either, but i most often drink beer as it is not that expensive.

Due to my poor financial situation (I'm skint at the moment and my job doesn't pay me until the end of the month) I drink maybe once a week, although I tend to drink a lot, relying on the size of my social group (with ten people out at once, a round each goes a long way). Also, we start in a pub somewhere then move onto bars when the pubs close.

Any chance I get - provided it doesn't interfere with things that are more important.

Whiskey and beer. Working man with simple, yet sophisticated taste. All that means is I stay away from the real cheap stuff.

More than thrice a week but not daily. I find it helps me unwind at the end of the day.

Water is best used for exterior applications - I find the taste and effect lacking. After work is the best time for me.

tbh i never did, i never liked the taste until i was about 16 (in germany where its legal for beverages under 16%? i think), then i had it every now and again until now i am used to it, but i hardly ever drink it in large amounts, maybe 1 a night, but then sometimes i go for months without a drink so its a "take it or leave it i don't mind" kinda thing.

A few pints of beer per day usually. I'm partial to a little whiskey and other forms of spirits, but often they're prohibitively expensive.

As for me, I like real ales, my current favourite being Black Sheep Ale. Light but with depths at the same time, I can drink it all day with no side effects (apart from the good ones of course).

I drink two or three times a week. Beer, nearly all the time, because it quenches thirst, tastes good and i can exactly dose it. I dont ever get sick from drinking beer alone and can stop short of blacking out.

Never. Other than being underage to drink in public places, just the smell makes me feel ill and I have crap self-control, self-destructive tendencies and a depressive personality which I don't think would mix well with alcohol...

One good bottle of wine (2 drinks per person) on any Saturday meal with friends.
One beer once in a while, if I have some popcorn and there's a good movie. Although I love Quebec beer (Cheval Blanc, Blanche de Chambly) and Guiness, I really don't drink it often.
And we have a lot of bottles of strong alcohol in our "little bar", but they're very seldom used. More like, "Hey my friend, wanna taste that very good scotch/grappa/xerez I have?"

I drink pretty much everyday, but not a lot. One drink before bed, either a glass of red, a tankard of beer, or a beaker of mead. :)

At pubs, it's normally Guinness or IPA if i want something i know i'll like, or whatever real ale they have if i'm feeling more adventurous.

I have an alcoholic drink(s) about every 2 weeks.
I do not to drink very often because every single major screw up and regret I've ever had (wrecks, fights, injuries, stupid mistakes) is directly related to alcohol. I also hate being hungover. Working in a bar and watching sane adults pay large sums of money to turn themselves into blithering, vomitous morons helped me make the decision to cut back.
I'm healthy, happy, and fortunate. Why be any other way?

Drinking "out" is prohibitively expensive.

I usually have a Wiskey/Soda, Manhattan or Vodka/Bitters (sometimes 2 or 3) before going to bed. (Heat-related insomnia... also explains some of my late-evening typing...)

I buy my booze in 1.75l bottles. Except for my annual bottle of Talisker, I never spend more than $15US on a 1.75l.

The cold USian piss-water I drink rather than sugar-sodas is whatever is in cans and on sale.

When I want real beer I buy micro-brewed/European Stout... and that is about the only thing I go out to drink.

When you hit 25-30 years old, most people become reasonable. And the parties are MUCH more entertaining/funny. In the last few years, we had only one occurence of a friend getting drunk. And he was scorned by everybody the next day.

I talk about having a stiff drink every night but I never do. I usually only drink once a month. When I do drink I tend to drink a whole bottle of wine in a 10 hour period. I'm not a hard drinker like others in my family. If you looked at my computer desk you would say that I was an alcoholic as I have 6 full fifths of whiskey and four bottles of wine and other assorted drinks. All still sealed mind you. It's more for company and I look the way the bottles look.

I agree, it's much more fun with experienced friends. I can't think of the last time I was drunk or had a hangover - that's a waste of time. But everybody's been there and done it.

I've had 2 beers, a glass of wine and a shot of Grappa, plus a few sips from a 1911 ($400) bottle of Port in the past 3 years. As a Bahai, I shouldn't have ANY alcohol at all, but I feel that if its very occasional, had for purposes of flavour/taste and part of a cultural event, and includes NO intoxication, God will forgive the extremely occassional lapses I've had. Thats just my take on things, and shouldn't reflect on anyone else of the same faith as myself.

Personally, I never saw the big deal with drinking anyways. If I did want to be intoxicated, I certainly wouldn't get that way with a drug that makes a person into puking, slurring, stumbling, depressed and moronic arsehole.

You know, I've always wondered about that "God doesn't like Alcohol" bit. For oh, maybe the last few milennia up until about 150 years ago, drinking water was more than likely to kill you than an eexcess of booze. Fermented (alcoholic) liquids were at least free of pathogens.

I think that most of the creators of Religions who prohibit alcohol were mostly interested in prohibiting intoxication, which is understandable, but like most things Religious, an understandable thing got warped in the translation.

Remember, Jesus didn't drink Welches... (I'm not sure what Bahá’u’lláh drank...)

Well I know in the Bahai writings the emphasis is DEFINATELY on not getting intoxicated. I agree, much got lost in translation from the early texts. Thats why I like my faith: Independent investigation of The Truth is a primary principle, meaning, you don't let anyone else interpret things for you. [/offtopic]

Mead is made with honey, right?

Normally only drink on weekends, or when I go out to eat. Drink of choice is either cider or vodka/rum mixed with something.

Depends on how you make it.

The last batch I made I used 35lb of raw blackberry honey and fermented it with champagne yeast. I ended up with 5gal of the most beautiful semi-sweet sparkling 12% alcohol mead you could ever want.

Here's a good site. http://cavemanchemistry.com/oldcave/projects/mead/

I'm not entirely sure myself, but I believe it has to do with a doctrinal dispute between Catholicism and Evangelical Protestants, especially regarding the Last Supper. IIRC, Southern Baptists read John as saying that they should never imbibe alcohol (which was what Jesus did Communion with) again until his return.

for the last few months at uni: never. spent all my money on dope instead, of course;)
before that: twice a week (when i still had savings to blow)

now: probably once a month to every fortnight. we have a great pub called the Hobbit (LOTR themed hippie pub from the 70s) thats open bar hours and has some great live acts (usually rock or jazz), plus a freakin massive beer garden. love to get wasted there, and they don't particularly mind if they smell a bit of the green burning in the garden either ;)

Why "(nearly) daily" instad of "daily" in the poll?

I drink mostly a bottle of good wine a day (keeps the doctor away) since 10 years and still run my marathon withouth troubles, same goes for mountaineering. Just avoid brandy and Dutch or US beer and drink quality (Belgian or German beer) but remember that beer is less good then wine (makes you fat) because it does not contain tanine that attacks cholestrol. I am in prime shape and my blood is tested regularly.

Having alcoholics as ex-business partners and ex-wives kinda dulls your interest in the pleasurable side of drinking, I've found. I don't miss it at all.

Last time I had an alcoholic drink was on July of last
year. I avoid beer and wine because of their
smell and taste, make me feel sleeepy and most
drinks are too caloric anyway. Besides, I'm already
on too many medications to make my liver have extra work
for something I don't even enjoy. I mostly
drink purified water, since it has less chemicals
which effects I don't know.

P.S: Sorry for the english...
