Real or fictional?

Real alien species: The Reptillian Saucer People who have a base inside a mountain in the American Southwest

Fictional alien species: Alien. There's just something cool about a species that is as organized as ants, as ruthless as humans, and has acid for blood.

I'm sorry, I must correct you; the word is "alien", not "alian".

Hmmm... I like the Xenomorphs, Protoss and Zerg from Starcraft were not bad as well (Zerg actually seem to be related to Xenomorphs ;)), the predators are a bit cheesy for my taste however. Regarding Star Trek, i dislike all the bulk of humanoid races there, the only cool race in Star Trek probably are Species 8472 (they rock!). Let's see what else... the Bugs from starship troopers are okay as well. As a matter of fact Star Wars has a multiplicity of alien species as well, but i don't really have any favourites there, perhaps some of the beasts there like Acklay and Rancor.

I see you don't know what the Nazis did while they were power....

I could see them being comparable when they brought in the deathstar which deystroyed planets. killing everyone on them. But...I didnt see the empire hunting down and particular group of people and slaughtering them(the rebels were a resistance, terrorists in the empires mind so they dont count :p )

Would the Jedi count as hunting down a particular group of people (or religion).

If you want real (fake) Nazis, go Dalek!
They salute the same, they exterminate their enemies, and even introduced their "final solution" to the Thal problem on their home planet Skaro.

You have no idea about me. I admire the Nazi image (uniforms, rallies, discipline, etc.), but not the ideology (since I'm very pro-Israel).

When I watch Star Wars however, I sympathize with the Empire because they're fighting the rebels. I admire the technological superiority the Empire had in comparison and their industrialized efficiency.

If you're going to support a disciplinarian society, you could do a lot better than the Nazis. The Romans make them look like pansies when it came to discipline. Ever heard of decimation? it's where you take a legion of soldiers, and kill every tenth one, when they lost a battle. or the crucifictions for a multitude of crimes, including dissension? Not to mention the thorough exterminations and exile of those who resisted significantly, such as the utter annihilation of Carthage. The nazis had the monopoly on INSANE, but not in running a disciplined society. The Roman senate was even synonymous with a military positions. All their senators were generals (specifically the consuls.)

You could even take what Lord Shang recommends in china. Squads of five soldiers. if one dies, the rest are killed. Now there's discipline.

The Empire aren't alien, that's the problem. Hell, they're actually xenophobic humans.
Sino
02-07-2005, 02:41
Did the Humans have a homeworld in the Star Wars universe? The Empire included practically everyone under it's occupation, so it's not just humans. They use clones as soldiers, but bounty hunters and sympathizers are rarely human on screen.

The Empire had a few Axis innuendos. Vader's helmet resembled that the WWII Germans, the generals and admirals wore hats that were similar to WWII Japs and without surprise, their soldiers are Storm Troopers.
Sino
02-07-2005, 02:54
Star Wars was some typical Hollywood good-guy-comes-in-and-saves-the-day epic dumped into sci-fi. It would have been tactically impossible for the Rebels to have penetrated the defenses of the Death Star as they're always protrayed as outnumbered and outgunned. Despite the Emperor's death, I doubt that the remnants of the Empire's gigantic forces would have capitulated (as mentioned in the novel sequels by Timothy Zahn).

Well, the best bounty hunter is Boba Fett, a definite human. he's a KIWI
The point is, you can't call the Empire an alien race, because it's not. it's human-centric, and diverse. it's a seperate culture. I wasn't disputing the Empire/axis innuendo, I definitely know about them. I was disputing that the nazis done discipline and efficiency best. The Romans probably did.

I can't believe I'm talking about the Empire and they're qualification as an alien race.....

Actually before the dissolution of the senate and the total collapse of the old republic there was a growing "anti-palpatine" movement that eventually becomes the rebellion. with palpatine dead, a lot of it would resurface. The Empire wasn't an old institution, and the rebellion wasn't universally seen as the bad-guys, even to a lot of imperials. Also you have the bothan spies, and the bothans are infamous in the SW universe for being good spies. not to mention it was palpatine himself that leaked the information to them to goad them into a trap. It was severe cockiness that allowed the rebels to win, and not tactics.

They had Temuera Morrison playing him, I know. I doubt the Empire being human-centric. It's fighting and support forces (of clones) are certainly human (subtly in the films they have demonstrated that humans are good all rounders and thus chosen for the cloning), the films have failed to show what life was like for non-humans specifically. I would assume that as they might have weaknesses when fighting (compared to the human clones), they would be behind the economy and industry of the Empire and Rebels alike (although the Rebel armies were more motley).

I don't see what the Romans pulled off could improve discipline or morale. There's a fine line between punishment and inter-force killings. Who's the better commander, an officer or a demon?

Discipline also corresponds with morale. How is killing one's own comrades an act to boost discipline? By cutting down the number of one's own forces would that help to attain victory?

I can’t decide between these:

Protoss- Honorable warrior spirit, psyonic powers, cool looking weapons, actually ally with humans, a little heavy handed though w2hat with wiping out entire Terran colonies just because of a Zerg infestation

Rakata from Knigts of the Old Republic- Ruled the entire Star Wars galaxy circa 30,000 years before the time of the films. All their technology utilized the Force in some way. They were responsible for the widespread population of humans in the galaxy.

Andalites from Anamorphs- cool anatomy, honorable druidic culture, a bit arrogant though

Also, does anyone else think that Alien vs. Predator rips of Star Craft just a little?

I doubt the Empire being human-centric.

Sorry Sino but the Empire is/was very human-centric. Read the books or just look at Return of the JedI and notice that the Rebel fleet is commanded by Admiral Akbar and his follow Mon Calimarians and the Imperial fleet is commanded by Admiral Piett and fellow humans, though Piett was killed by a fluke.

Anyhow, the Empire enslaved countless alien races, including Wookies and Mon Calimarians. They also had utter disdain for non-humans and advancement in the military was hard for aliens. However, Palpatine himself did not have these views as is exemplified by Grand Admiral Thrawn. It was the Imperial Military Industrial complex itself that had the specieism issues.

Of Topic: I am also fascinated by Nazi Imagery but not the ideology. I can see how so many were drawn in by it.
