I was going to make this a 'what would your blank check film' be, but I thought it should be more open. I'll still use film as an example.

When a filmmaker does something like, say, The Lord of the Rings you kinda get a blank check, the ability to do just about any film you decide you want to. Like remaking King Kong (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/king_kong/)

So the question is, in what ever it is you dig doing-what would your blank check project be? If you have earned the ultimate 'free hand,' what would you do with it?

I would create the biggest, best Metalfest ever.

I'd touch up Akira Kurosawa's greatest classics with color and some GOOD dubbing.

You want to colourise Kurosawa's films?
Well I was going to say with a blank cheque I'd want to recreate Rome in it's heyday, complete with Gladitorial games but I've changed my mind.
With my blank cheque I'd put out a contract on you to have you whacked before you commit such an atrocity. If too late, I'd then spend money on having the films un-colourised.
And there's nothing wrong with subtitles you know.

Build quality secular schools all over the world that will indoctrinate the students with my values and principles as well as give them a top quality education. I'd make sure that most of the schools were located in places where large numbers of religious whackos are present. You know, backwards places like Pakistan and Alabama.

I would make Niven & Pournell's "Fallen Angels" into a One-Off film then do Heinlein's Future History RIGHT.

Open up the worlds largest western martial arts school, with on site smiths, teachers, collections of historical manuals from collectors etc etc etc etc, hold world tournaments etc and get a big badass chair to sit on :D

I was actually thinking about a "Mara of the Acoma" trilogy.... that would be awesome. But the Riftwar would be cool too.

I'd make Burmese Days in Burma.

I can't imagine that it would be that expensive though, so I'd blow the surplus on a really nice retirement island or something.

I'd do my career ending version of Jose Saramago's Blindness where audiences will storm out in disgust when half way through the movie they are subjected to 20 minutes of a white screen and with the sounds of a riot. Mu ha ha ha.

I was thinking of a series of Stephen King's GUNSLINGER SERIES on film. That could be interesting.... Well that and the Big Fat Chair that was mentioned in a previous post... that would be good too...
