anyone watch this show? UK or US version?

i think its a fantastic programme, with some great lessons about business and people to be learned. the difference between the versions from each side of the Atlantic are also bloody interesting... in the UK version there was quite a bit more emphasis on teamwork from what i could see - in 2 episodes of the american show the loosing team has ended up in the shithouse largely because of poor managment and delegation. in the UK one i'm damn sure Alan Sugar would have fired the team leaders without (much) hesitation. however, Trump chooses to pick on individuals and leave the bad managers alone. interesting point #1.

also, last night's decision to fire that guy after he waved his exemption was just stupid - it wouldn't have been a fatal mistake if everyone else (particularly Trump) hadn't picked on him for it. he was the best one on that team in that task, and i don't think he should have been fired

the petty bitchiness and conspiring that went on in the girl's team last night was also pretty incredible - they just could not, or would not, work as a team either on the task or in their own time. the guys have started to bond, however, and i predict that they'll start to win more tasks than Apex.

and what was the deal with everyone finding Mozaic so funny in the first show (yes i'm talking the second series here btw)? they were like "you're the big butch guys and you've chosen 'Mozaic' lol lol lol"
i don't get whats wrong with Mozaic

if anything Apex is more cliched

and anyone else notice how the music changes between the two teams? the guys have military get-up-and-go music, while the girls have plonky, joke music. i thought that was pretty insulting.

anyway, thoughts on this show? last night's decision? whatever?

Remember, they take a shitload of footage and edit it to a narrative they think viewers will find most entertaining after the fact. They're trying to sow seeds of doubt and misdirection so someone is undone by a tragic flaw and so a hero arises from the masses.

Now the up side of this, and it is a bit harder with reality TV sometimes is to pick up on those hints and spoil the ending and predict who will get fired/voted off early in an episode. If you get on a roll this can annoy people to no end.

quite true... i suppose there are plenty of nasty rich lords (like the duke of westminster who owns half of london, i think anyway) who could do it, but they're not businessmen...

i want to see Bill Gates do it :D

  Anne Robinson! she can make anything evil :p

The only one of those that I watched was where the two teams (at least, I think they were teams...god knows, I don't follow it) had to make toys. One team went with the obvious choice - something that moves, makes noises and is based on an existing product. Even the name was good. The other team makes this piece of crap called 'crustaecian nation' (sp?) that's like a swimming leopard. Seriously, they could have given the kids a brick and they would have had more fun with it.

They did a Finnish version a short while ago which was truly horrible. They had a silly guy who goes around giving motivation/self-esteem lectures as host.

I watched the UK version and I thought it was very good.

Also, I swear that ITV are doing a 'cover-version' of the apprentice involving Richard Branson. Saw an advert for it last night.
