Updating language in relation to politics.

I've been thinking about this lately. How modern statists are now "liberal" even though their policies are anything but the definition of "liberal". Same with conservatives. Changing the language changes the nature of the debate, in most cases.

If it were up to you, what part of the language would you change in order to change a certain debate?

My choice: death penalty. In order to change the dynamics of the debate, I'd change "death penalty" and "capital punishment" to...wait for it..."retroactive abortion".

Just imagine how that would change the nature of the debate. :D

I'm not sure how that would work, we we punch the muderer's mother in the stomach or something? ;)

Better yet, lets call HER a muderer and show HER nasty pictures of what her son/daughter did outside her workplace.

On the other hand we'd have a bunch of lefties walking around spouting metaphysical concepts like "The murderer wasn't alive to begin with, so it can't be murder, its retroactive abortion."

Wow. That would be fun ;)

Let's ban words in politics.
I'm against politicians carrying words, either visible or conceiled.
Automatic words are even worse: they kill you before you even have time to think.
Words. They are deadly.

In debates about murder, in order to make a trial fairer, the political phrase for murder must be changed.

Murder- self-defense of a questionable legality.

OMG!

YES, someone other than me knows that word.
I just get, "You're making that up." whenever I say it.

And I'm like, "Why would I make up a word?"

And they're like, "To make yourself look smarter than me."

I always respond, "I don't NEED to make myself look smarter than you. Everyone can tell right away."

EDIT: I've known this word since like 5th grae, when Mr. McMurray, my teacher told us.

This happened in the anti-gun movement with "assault rifles". It's happening now with labeling hunting rifles "sniper rifles".

It gets tiresome.

I agree.... but I'm talking about turning the trend back against them. Like with "retroactive abortion". They're "for" abortion and partial-birth abortion... why wouldn't they be for retroactive abortion? ;)

Yes the American use of "liberal" and "conservative" is completely at odds with the way the rest of the planet uses them, in relation to politics.

This should not be allowed in an international forum, it causes too many misunderstandings.

I would replace "Communism" with "Holesome Loving Family Government", jjust to see what would happen.

I think i'd relabel "abortion" as "the murdering of babies". If people actually admit what it is, and still do it, what possible arguments could Conservatives make that would convince them to stop? :p

Liberal Feminist: I'm a murderer! *kills (unborn) child* see???
Neo-Con: but that's... oh.

By definition of murder, abortion is not murder, because it is legal (murder is the illegal killing of a person). Oh no, I've commited voluntary manslaughter in the 5th degree! doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

people have been claiming abortion was murder for years, though... I think their definition would probably be simpler, more like "the killing of a human being". In the same way that killing someone in warfare is still murder, even though it's state sanctioned.

It's clever, but it's been said before.
