Can anyone figure out why this is news? Nixon is dead. Ghandi is dead. India gets all our software and customer service business. Why even start on this? Surely Nixon must have said something far more embarassing or revealing than "Indira is a bitch"?

Three words describe why: Slow News Day

Why does it matter? If he didn't like her, big deal.

Yeah, he had a problem with the Indian liberation of Bangladesh! Typical!

Meh, this is Nixon... he thought Trudeau was a communist.

Oh yeah...a Stalinist, to boot. No doubt you've heard of Trudeau's infamous 'killing lakes' in the Northwest Territories, wherein you'll still occasionally find the odd Rolex or bottle of Chivas washing up on the shore, all that remains of the Bay Street types who were rounded up and interned there, where they could either choose re-education, or death-by-cottaging.

Haven't you?

I think Nixon pretty much insulted and was suspicious of everyone.

Man needed medication. This is no big deal.

It's important to Cold War scholars and historiains as well as people looking into the relatively recent history between the US and India, and elements of how they where dealt with and look at. As the one scholar notes, they 'look at everything through this Cold War prism.' It's important to them, and a historical note. Is it front page news? No, but I doubt that's where you'd find that story.
