Pretty intense electrical storm by UK standards. No rain, little thunder. but lightening at least once a minute at the peak.

That's nothing, for a real storm you should come and spend some time in my old home in Oklahoma.

I know, when Ive been to the US there's been some pretty bad weather, even by your standards.
But in the Uk its usually just drizzle.

Yeah I hear ya. I still can't believe people want to live in a country whose weather is so often dreary. That's why I moved to California. Now all I have to worry about are earthquakes, fires, floods, tsunami, etc. :p

Man could we use some drizzle in Toronto right about now. Bloody heatwave has been going on for more than a week, now.
Edit: with humidity factored in, the thermometer has been registering well over 40 degrees C the whole time.
We're dying out here!

We've not been complaining, its been quite pleasant here on average 20-25 degrees for past few weeks. it touched 32 or so a couple of weekends ago. (one of the highest ever temperature in Uk)

i love storms. but these r never as gd as the 1s i c on tv that happen all over the world. storms fasinate me.
Well, the storm has just about passed Nottingham now, a pretty cool show.
Man you Brits don’t know a good storm. You ever rode out a level 3 hurricane? Now that’s a storm. It passed in less than thirty minutes? Bah.

Really? It must be moving West to east and stretch from South-North. We;re still getting some. (down in the home counties)

We still have the rain but the lightning is now to the North West (from where I am in Nottingham).

tornadoes are always fun...
when i was about 5, living in northern wisconsin, a tornado picked up my friend's house and hurled it... his grandpa was thrown through the roof.
maybe 8 years later, while we were (thankfully) on vacation in Florida, a tornado just missed our house... destroying trees in the woods behind the house.

Lets have it! The 'My Country has better storms than yours does' argument...

The closest we get are "mini-tornadoes" which knock off about one roof tile, there was one only last week in Coventry.

Well now I can't hear any Thunder or see any Lightning though it's still drizzling.

We've had earthquakes :p
OK, so they weren't that strong, I even managed to sleep though one.
Sad to think that's my only life achievment :(

Not dreary, subtle.
We get the variety, just not the extremes. Think of the UK climate as Weather Unplugged. It doesn't sock you in the face, you have to pay a bit of attention to appreciate it properly.

I'm in the wonderful midlands, all we've had are heavy rain, thunder and lightening. Theres been no heavy winds whatsoever.
Oh yeah I slept through an earthquake too and its not exactly hard.
The UK Climate is perfect (for me), its not too hot and not too cold. Though it could do with a little less rain.

Last week many parts in Hong Kong were flooded.
Next week we're probably going to have a heatwave.
:D
I just love Hong Kong's summer weather!

As I said before in the other thread on the exact same topic, y'all brits must be pussies if you can't last a few thunderstorms before going nuts and posting 50 different topics on every message board in existance.

the highest ever temperature in the UK was back in 2003 when it got to 42 degrees... i remember it cos i was out back in the garden, melting, all day. went to the beach in the afternoon to cool down :)
and i know its a bit late but some of the storms in the last few days have been pretty bad, for uk standards of course
