Boffins Create Zombie Dogs

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years. Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity. But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre. However rather than sending people to sleep for years, then bringing them back to life to benefit from medical advances, the boffins would be happy to keep people in this state for just a few hours, But even this should be enough to save lives such as battlefield casualties and victims of stabbings or gunshot wounds, who have suffered huge blood loss.

During the procedure blood is replaced with saline solution at a few degrees above zero. The dogs' body temperature drops to only 7C, compared with the usual 37C, inducing a state of hypothermia before death. Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved. Damaged blood vessels and tissues can then be repaired via surgery. The dogs are brought back to life by returning the blood to their bodies, giving them 100 per cent oxygen and applying electric shocks to restart their hearts.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.

"The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.

I was actually just surfing the intenet randomly when I stumbled across this article. Not only did I find it amazing, but at the same time I am rather skeptical. What does everyone else think, and if it is as true as they say, what do you think of it? Personally, I think its troubling more than anything!

Bump. Dogs are brought back from the dead, and people care about what? :P

What I take away from articles like this: People who write gay sensationalistic headlines should be shot in the face while their children watch. They play a major role in keeping people stupid and ultimately, they're stealing their paychecks.

it's not just theorised, it's been happenning for years. people/kids fall into frozen/very cold lakes, their bodies feeze and then later (nine hours later is the world record) they are ressuciatated in hospital through careful re-heating.

ahh, the blood in these "zombie" dogs was replaced making freezing safe and sustainable

ah.....a good way to get through a boring week or two. I think I'll try it.....let's see, first I drain my blood, and, uh......I think I'm having a bit of trouble squeezing into the freezer. Could somebody help? You know, just...shove me in. I just hope there are no blackouts while I'm being preserved.

Well, the blood freezing isn't really the issue. It's the destruction of cells when the water in them freezes, expands, and thus ruptures the cell. I'm not sure how replacing the blood would help with this.

Also curious how thourough the desanguination is. Do they drain every flipping capillary too?

Hack, actually not just the blood, but the cell liquid. How? I have no flipping clue. But this has been experimented on for years.

Just out of curiousity.. Were we meant to debate this?

Ok the only way I think I can start some debate is by saying: But they're experimenting on helpless little puppies!!!

I find a page with "the other side" as a special area beneath world and local news a bit hard to believe in.

I dunno.. Sounds plausible enuff to me. Various people all over are researching this at the moment. I think a team of Russian Doctors are currently the most successfull.
