Best Movie Music

What movie(s) had the best music? Before anyone complains about the poll choices so far, let me explain each of them.
1. Pirates of the Caribbean - A medley of songs from this movie is one of the only songs my school's music department has played 2 years in a row because people liked it so much. Besides that, it's really good music, and I've got it playing while I'm typing this.
2. Star Wars - I think it's really good music, and I think most people (at least everyone I know) would recognize it instantly, or at least think the music was familiar.
3. Sin City - I haven't seen this movie, but I've heard that during one of the fight scenes, Sensemaya is playing. This is one of my favorite songs ever, and it alone makes the movie worth putting up.
4. Other - If a lot of people suggest another movie, I'll put it into the poll.
Edit: It turns out I can't change the poll once it's made. Oh well...

The music in "The American Astronaut" was brilliant. A lot like the band Doo-Rag. Sadly I haven't been able to find the soundtrack anywhere :(

Jurassic Park. If you've ever heard the piece the whole way through, you'll know what I mean.

I haven't seen lord of the rings, so that's why it wasn't up there. Unfortunately, I can't change the poll. Sorry.

Clockwork Orange was funny, I liked the synthesized versions of old songs, really unique and I wouldn't mind hearing more of the same actually.

Also, don't forget Easy Rider!

I'm a big fan of the pulp fiction soundtrack and the boondock saints one...

Star Wars all the way!!! The music is just great, and seems to perfectly fit each scene. That is pretty much the one thing you can’t complain about in the new movies. They do continue the Star Wars tradition of integrating music flawlessly.
Lord of the Rings is very good as well, though, IMO not as good as Star Wars.
Pirates of the Caribbean? Honestly, I never thought about that movie having good music.

Jurassic Park. If you've ever heard the piece the whole way through, you'll know what I mean.

It came with the PowerPoint software on my pc, so I know what you mean. It's pretty good.

Or maybe Modern Times or someother film I cannot remember at this time.

Definately not one of the three poll options.

Fantastic film, that.

Trying to pick which movie had the best music is so difficult, however. There's some really good soundtracks out there, largely depending on what you're in the mood for.

Personally I think that Lord of the Rings has the best, most immersive movie soundtrack.

either romeo + juliet, which has my two favourite radiohead songs on the soundtrack, or withnail & i, which has a whole medly of brilliant sixties tracks.

The Matrix movies had good music. The stuff in Revolutions especially was very effective. Like the Lord of the Rings trilogy for effectiveness too

Kill Bill. :)

Tarantino knows how to score...

Or at least how to pick what songs to use.

And bonus points for having RZA on the soundtrack.

Aliens! I just love that mix of military drum beats and bombastic, dramatic orchestra!

The song "Futile Escape" is soo awesome!

Donnie Darko - Mad World
Zulu - Old film, but great tribal music and theme
Saving Private Ryan - The music there was just sublime, John Williams at his second best, IMHO
Indiana Jones - Come on, who doesnt hear that and begin to hum 'Dum-da-dum-dum, dum-da-dum' and hear the crack of a whip? Williams at his best.

I quite agree. Beverly Hills Cop also has pretty good music. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

No one has gone for the nerdlinger answer of Alexander Nevsky? Fine, I didn't need my lunch money-I'll be the first 'easy road snob' to mention it. A score that can be performed outside of a 'Pops' concert is a definate plus...

What a bunch of wankers...get out of your star wars bubbles, all of you! Answering the question, Sound of Music comes to mind, of course, and then there is I am Sam, which featured a lot of nice Beatles cover versions. The music to Pulp Fiction was ok, too.

Agreed. "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is an awesome composition.

I like the way "Where is my mind?" by the Pixies plays at the end of Fight Club. Breathtaking.

Although John Williams is a superb composer. Quentin always finds the perfect music to fit the films. It is a definite toss up between Lucas and Tarantino just becuase the music fits the movies like a glove instead of a alot of modern movies just playing whatever is popular :headbang: .

Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Wars (any of them)

Yeah, sure. All of these films have much better music in them than, for example, West Side Story...

Definitely a toss-up. As in 'your cookies'.

What the fuck? Nobody's said Goodfellas?
That movie had the perfect soundtrack. Fuck, it even had Sid Vicious' version of "My Way" at the end!We have a winner. Yep, 'Goodfellas' for best soundtrack. The "Layla" montage scenes are a fantastic combination of music and visuals. First time I ever liked that song.

I know they're not movies, but I love the soundtracks for Halo 2 and Splinter Cell 3. Despite what you may think of the games, they had excellent music IMHO. I also like the OST's from Kill Bill part 1 and Hero.

If we're talking movies here that are not devoted to music such as movies with scores from broadway or something then i'd have to say...

Gods and Generals, which had a superb soundtrack
Star Wars, gripping and Wagnerian even
LOTR, which utilized similar techniques coined by Williams for SW and Indiana Jones,
And Schindlers List, another Williams Classic,
Pirates had pretty good music, it was just so damn repetetive

I still say John Williams makes the best music. He's responsible for the following pieces of genius:

Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Saving Private Ryan
Several more I can't remember

John Williams is a genius (the Duel-of-Fates from Ep 1 is a classic) and the music was what made Saving Private Ryan for me.

Danny Elfman's 1989 Batman score, some of the best Gothic music I've ever heard. You could tell the Batman series was going downhill when they lost not only Tim Burton and Michael Keaton but replaced Danny Elfman with Elliot Goldenthal who couldn't even come close. :sniper:
