The four you must be thinking of would be... hmm, lemme see if I can remember this right...
Pretoria/Witwaterstrand/Verwoerd (P.W.V.) which is now Gauteng
Northeastern Province which is now Mpumalanga
Oranje Frystaat which is now, IIRC, just "Free State"
Natal, which is now Kwa-Zulu Natal
I might be a tad off, but I am pretty sure about the first two being right.
