Best FPS?

The Noble Men

What would you say it was?

I say Half-Life. No explination needed, really.

Poll coming.

I would have to... disagree. I prefer Call of Duty. The weapons aren't so overpowered and ridunculous. Maybe Red Faction - the original, that is. If you opened this up to all shooters, I would have to say Conker: Live and Reloaded. Sure, they fucked some stuff up, but I would say that this is even better than the original, overall.

At this point, Mr Caps Lock will berate me for forgetting most FPS games.

There are too many too cram into this poll, people!

Hmmm... Somebody needs to say it: Halo 2 (Only in multiplayer, Halo 2 really only comes into its own on Live), but really I'm a fan of Rainbow Six, and as crappy as they have become, the James Bond games will always have a special spot in my game rack.

Anybody played Deus Ex, an oldy (relatively) but a good game, pretty challenging and the replay is HUGE, you could play that game till the end of time and never go through it the same way twice.

I've heard it's brilliant, and only costs a fiver, or less if you buy it in a 3 for 10 pounds offer.

Never got round too, though.

Duck Hunt.

Ooops no, it's a First Duck Shooter (FDS)

Half life. Especially half life 2. The single most enjoyable game ever.

Halo has stupid weapon balance which ruins it, and the movement feels sluggish and boring, even when I have it set to what I like to use most. Single player is a good blast, but sorely over-rated. And multiplayer is easily trumped by the likes of Quake 3, Unreal Tourney(s), and the myriad half-life (and Q3 and UT) mods.

I've never played HL2 (crap P.C) but multiplayer sounds sheer genius.

The Gravity Gun! On multiplayer!

it's actually one of 2 unbalanced weapons. The gravity gun and the rocket launcher. However, it has its uses. For example, there is a map which has a central building (triangular) and three streets. At the top there is a rocket launcher and a view that can dominate the rest of the map. However, there is only one flight of stairs. Now, I was against a rocket camper who was sitting at the top and blasting rockets. Taking a car (which one cannot pick up, merely push about) I moved it up the stairs to the flight leading to the rocket launcher. I wedged it half way up and gave it a few trial knocks to see what would happen. it was permanent. Taking an explosive barrel, I express delivered it to the rocket spammer, killing him. Upon trying to get up to his precious launcher, he ran into my car, and blast blast blast, he couldn't get it to move. I then proceeded to use EVERY SINGLE weapon on the map to blow the hell out of him each time he respawned for being such an annoying n00b. He logged off after that schooling :D

Anybody knows a FPS where you can actually see eyeballs coming out of explosions, and bad guys pretending to be dead, just to rise and shoot you in the back?
That's Rise of the Triad.
I hope they will make a new version or a remake soon. Sadly, this game is 10 years old.

(remember, hold in the fire button in Dog mode for optimum success. (a winner is you if this you do!)

Half Life <3

Op4 was amazing; almost as good as half life itself.
The original was the best game ever made
(Cannot wait for it to be redone in Black Mesa Source)
Half life 2 was just beautiful
Counter strike source is the best online game i've played

Which is important when you think that Freeman is a genius.

Deus Ex (original, not the sequel)

Yeh, I know it's not really a pure FPS. But then again i'm not really a big fan of pure FPS, so I guess that makes sense.

EDIT: or maybe the Thief series :p again, non-traditional FPS, but still great games.

And it's a Government Research Base. The Government wouldn't make it easy to run in, grab something, and run out. Unfortunatly it makes it harder for hard working(well the scientists work hard, but the gaurds... ), fun-loving, Gov't Employees too. And besides, a rift to another dimesnsion just ripped into the base, it's not going to be neat and clean.

Oh, yeah.

BTW, the guards did work hard. Play Blue-Shift, after the train you're doing janitorial work.

Just thought I'd mention it.

I have Blue-Shift, but my computer hates it for some reason. If I pause, CTD. If I Quick Save, CTD. Heck, most of the time I just walk and it CTDs. I've reinstalled, patched, compatibility mode, everything, and I can't get it to work.

You have my vote.
CounterStrike was so fun to play at work during lunchtime, with coworkers. I would really kick ass as an anti-terrorist dude (using very weird tactics and suicide assaults).
We also players the "Opposing Forces" mod, which was more army-like. But I've never heard of it again, I can't even find a reference on any website.

Did you get it in the Half-Life Generation box-set?

I don't really care as long as I have Half-Life and Op4. I once got it to work, no clue how, and it wasn't as fun. And for Op4 problems, are you running Steam? Unless you have a Pay-Per-Hour ISP, you really should. I have Comcast Cable, and acorrding to DSLReports.com I get 3396KB/s Down, 354KB/s up, so I never have problems getting updates. 56k might though, and don't even THINK about it with 28.8k. Is that even still available?
