I like Dunkin Donuts coffee and when I get on the other side of town ,I like to have a Starbucks too.
I generally brew my own though, on a daily basis. I cant justify spending $20.00 or more per month on coffee.

WTF, where the heck is Tim Hortons !!!!!! CANADIANS, WAKE UP!!!

PS: My favorite is Brulerie Saint-Denis, very popular across the province. They roast their own coffee bean and usually the result is excellent.

PS(2): I used to like Second Cup (Ontario/Quebec) but now their coffee is becoming shittier by the hour.

Did you get over to Cafe Central? Do *die* for.
(Also the favorite coffee shop of Trotsky, before the Russian Revolution... when he left, he still owed the head waiter (Jozef) for four mochas. But then, it's Trotsky. They were the people's mochas! :D )

I usually go with a small local coffee company who roasts their own. If it's chain I go with Panera(most often) and finally I'll get Starbucks (occasionally).

Tim Horton's is another donut chain. Pretty good, and less expensive than Krispy Kreme or Dunkin' Donuts.

Biggest canadian coffee chain. By far. Dunkin Donuts got a beating a few years ago, never recovered.

I agree that the best coffee is in Europe.
Up to now, the best I had was in Spain and in Switzerland, but I haven't visited Italy yet. In France I wasn't impressed, neither was I in Austria. In Croatia the coffe tastes like shit but people are so friendly that you're happy nonetheless.

Canada's biggest competitor to Starbuck's. I think I'll stay loyal to Starbuck's, just to piss off my fiancee and her uncle who're both loyalists of Tim Horton's. :)

Do you not have Costa Coffee in the US?

I'm from the UK and we don't have 7-11, but I was just in Scandanavia and it's a rip-off. Expensive but dire quality. Maybe it's not expensive in the US, everything's extortionate in Scandanavia, but it was really awful stuff.

I won't drink chain coffee.

I'm a social coffee drinker, not a coffee-drinker. Same with smoking. I'm a social smoker, not a smoker.

My city has the most wonderful little coffee shops, and I go there for hours. It's just how I roll. That's when I drink coffee. They usually have the organic-fair-trade blends, and their house blends are superb as well.

I love coffee, so I try not to cheapen the experience with chain coffee. Keep it holy.
I drink coffee for the sake of the coffeeshop experience and the taste, not coffee for the sake of its boost.

We would not degrade coffee by having a chain store that sells it. McDonalds is trying, but failing.

You drink good coffee from a little Italian Café on the corner in the back streets where only the locals go.

I'll have to add my own rant here, along with my fellow Canadians, and for every hockey lover everywhere...

WHERE THE HELL IS THE TIMMIE HO'S!?!?!?!?!

-ahem-

Actually I prefer my own homebrewed, special blend coffee... put a little cinnamon in with the grounds on mornings when Im not... err, waking up alone, and presto!

(no, Im not giving away my bean recipe... I would have to kill you)

I don't drink coffee
Why should we care?

But, back to the topic. Coffee-shop chains have realized that people don't go into a cafe to drink coffee. They go there to sit down, eat and drink something mildly caffeineous. They realize that there are people who dislike coffee that has any flavor in it, and that because people don't go into a cafe to drink coffee, diluting the product gives you new customers, but doesn't make the old ones go away. So, they're settled to some level of optimal dilution, because there is competetion. Their normal coffee should be called "coffee-like drink". Their strong coffee isn't.

As you might've guessed, I prefer lightly roasted strong coffee. Fortunately I live in a country that agrees with me on this, so there *is* a chain that has OK coffee, namely, Robert's. American chain coffee, or any hamburger chain coffee (irrespective of company origins) is more like colored tap water.

Bollocks!! I'm just back from Rome and I tell you, they don't do good coffee in Rome. Even in the back streets. It's OK to take out 1.50 Euros or something, but it's no better than Starbucks, and you get much less. And if you want to sit down, it's about 4 Euros!! They do neither quality nor quantity and they certainly don't do value. And then there was that extortionate cafe we got stuck in when there was a Thunderstorm, and the bill for a coffee and a tea was more than it cost to buy a bottle of Vodka from the off-licence! 10+ Euros!!

Rome's a dive. Avoid it like the plague.

Well...it does have some good sights, i suppose...actually they were very impressive....but it's still the most horrible city I've ever been to.

I recommend Budapest or Copenhagen though.

Most chain coffee is lousy and overpriced. Especially Charbucks. Give me a good town with local cafes that roast their own beans. Like Whitehorse.

1) Never try to buy ANYTHING in the old center of an European city. It's overpriced.

2) What kind of coffee did you order? You HAVE to order an espresso or something dark. Anything that comes with a biscotti is probably good. Otherwise you end up with the crap they serve to tourists.

Hey, I love my Last Drop Coffee Shop (Monroe, CT) too, but I doubt many folks in Connecticut know about it... I figured that at least one of these chains would be in most places...
