Discuss your favorite sandwich.

Mine is the Perfect Pastrami at a local deli:

pastrami, swiss, sauerkraut, mayo and 1000 island dressing served on pumpernickle (sp?).

it's grilled... crunchy on the outside, mushy on the inside. YUM!!!!

you dirty old man, you! FIE!

in answering a question with a question, Eutrusca reminds me to add:

in this case, i speak of the type of sandwich comprised generally of two pieces of bread with ingredients like meat, cheese, veggies, sauces (etc.) between said slices.

I am glad to see that most of you knew that I implied this type of sandwich in my introductory post. carry on thusly, hehe

any votes for chicken?

EG, fried chicken breast sandwiches... with mayo, lettuce, tomato or perhaps parmigiano style with mozzarella, parmesan and marinara?

I love both.

Or how about sausage and peppers (a la chicago)?

Or the cheese steak? ({Philadelphia?)

Does a real cheese steak have yellow velveeta-like cheese sauce or sliced white cheese on it?

Let's think... my favourite sandwich i actually regularly have is of the toasted chicken variety, the one i have slightly less often is that most rare and wonderful of creations, a sausage sandwich.

My favorite sandwich of all time would have to an Italian Hoagie* at Sams Subs of West Chester County. They perfect every aspect of the Italian Hoagie* The bread is soaked with the olive oil and vinigar that also drenches the meat cheese and vegetable on the sandwich. The bread lives in perfect harmony with the sandwiches innards. Most places just take the stuff and put in on the bread. Oh man, my mouth is watering just thinking about them.

A cheesesteak from Jims of Southstreet Phila. comes in close second.

Primula cheese spread and loads of Walker's beef and onion crisps in a barmcake

Wow. I don't understand... basically all of that sentence.

"onion crisps"? Aren't those the fried, sliced potatoes that North Americans call "chips"?

"barmcake"? No idea what this is.

So your sandwich is some sort of processed cheese spread, some kind of beef, and onion-flavoured potato chips in some kind of bread-like substance?

Okay, mine, you asked for it:

Bread: 100% whole wheat is good.
Peanut butter: containing no icing sugar or assorted garbage; just peanuts, salt, and maybe a little extra oil so it doesn't separate.
Mayonnaise: real, whole egg mayonnaise, not that Abomination against Nature, "Miracle Whip". Hellman's Best Foods Mayonnaise is excellent.

/discovered this when I was five years old
//been my favourite sandwich for 27 years

[edit] I like Eutrusca's idea. 1 blonde, 1 redhead, side order of brunette. In a hot tub.

Try white bread + peanut butter + philadelphia cheese, it's kind of sticky but has a nice taste!!!

Another good sandwich: the usual tomato-mayonnaise sandwich, but with some bacon and thin cucumber slices. Yummy.

Oh and another: stuffed bread. Buy a large bread that has a solid crust (a wide baguette or a round "peasant bread" for example). Cut the top, keep it. Empty the bread (you can keep the pieces to make croutons). Spread a little bit of garlic butter in the inside. Now fill the emptied bread with levels of: grilled peppers/zucchini/eggplant, grilled and sliced chicken breast, some creamy dressing. When it's full, put back the top wrap it in foil, and put it in the fridge for one night with a plate on the top (to compact it a little). Next day, slice it in 1 inch thick portions. Et voila: this stuffed bread will amaze you.

Rubens are nice. Much more realistic perspective of women than the current skin-and-bones models.

Monte Cristos are nice, but I prefer milder cigars.

no, not beef, and onion crisps, 'beef and onion crisps' (or for Americans, chips) as in crisps that are beef and onion flavoured, and the brand has to be Walkers

you just reminded me of my former favorite sandwich... during my undergrad days in Madison (WI, USA)...

which was a sub with turkey and pastrami, shredded lettuce, mayonnaise, and cheddar cheese... and a little bit of oil and vinegar. man, that was a good sub sandwich.

PB+J... nice but... PB + raspberry jam beats it...

Have you tried orange cheese and raspberry/strawberry jam? It's wonderful on white bread or on toasted white bread.

About the peanut butter...
I don't really like natural peanut butter, as the oil tends to separate and the taste is too often bitter (they use extra cheap peanuts sometimes).
I once made my own peanut butter home, using peanuts, peanut oil and glazing sugar. It works very well. But unless you have a super-mixer, it'll be quite crunchy.

I like smoothy peanut butter most of the time, especially in sandwiches. Except when I make peanut butter sauce (for thai/viet dipping), in this case I use extra crunchy.

Not sure I actually have a favourite sandwich...peanut butter and cheese is nice.
Others that I reccommend include warm caramel flavour mullerice and cheese (Marmite can be added, if you so desire).
Tomato ketchup and golden syrup is pretty good as well...I intend to try that with brown sauce instead of ketchup at some point.

Damn, I'm starved, now.

I've a fourway tie. First is a meatball sub with marinara sauce, sauteed onions, and hot peppers. Second is the Reuben. If you don't know what this is, go buy one. Right now. The chicken carbonara sub at Quizno's, and last is the Sweet Onion Chicken Terriyaki at Subway, which I like to get on whole wheat, with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and banana peppers.

I know. When I first had it, I just grinned..I think I scared people. Usually, when I grin, it implies something evil is about to happen.

I've yet to try the Philly there.
