Supreme Court in Recess

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The Current US Supreme Court is now in recess. This means that we could expect the Chief Justice to resign. So far, the resignation hasn't occured yet but due to the two veridicts they rendered, I didn't think it'll become public knowledge yet.

The Bush Administration was asked if they have received a letter and they are not talking. IMHO, I take this to mean that they probably have but his resignation isn't official yet.

I am asking the Question:

Do you think that any member of the US Supreme Court is going to resign?

I think all nine of them will be gone eventually. When is the time limit?

Death or retirement.

The CJ might. If he does that won't change the ideology much as another conservative will get nominated.

So your only thinking one of them Black Forest?

Again, when is the time limit? If it was yesterday, the answer is no. If it's 10 years from now, the answer is yes

There is no time limit. They can resign at anytime or die at anytime. They serve for life till they resign or die.

Absolutely. Rehnquist and possibly *shudder* O'Connor.

If you vote yes, you can just keep waiting for one of them to retire or die and then say you were right. If you vote no, you can point to the currently full Supreme Court and then say you were right

Do you mean before the next session? Or maybe till the end of the Bush Administration?

This session- Maybe the Chief Justice but I'm not sure.

End of Bush years- I'd say at least 2, possibly 3

Then again they could all die at any time really so only God knows.

Ladies and Gentlemen:<snip>I am asking the Question:
Do you think that any member of the US Supreme Court is going to resign? Ghod, I hope so. Starting with Souter.

But AFAIC now that the Supreme Court is in Recess, maybe we (their bosses) should grade their papers and stick them in detention for violating School Rules.

Letting Billy the Bully take Milquetoast's lunch money (because Billy uses it to buy band candy & support the school) is still wrong - no matter how you slice it.

Alot of them are old enough to die now that's for sure. I"m looking for the Chief Justice to resign as well before the next term starts. Should be interesting.

Ghod, I hope so. Starting with Souter.
If we're going strictly liberal/conservative here, Stevens has the most liberal voting record.

Souter's one of the (relatively) "young" ones. He's not going anywhere.

Absolutely. Rehnquist and possibly *shudder* O'Connor.
I do wonder why Rehnquist is holding out so long.
I would have thought that he might have resigned last summer. Maybe he'll hold out until he dies.
I certainly hope that we don't lose O'Connor yet.
*mutters at self* I can't believe I'm doing this, posting in the General Forum again. Have I a death wish or something? I wonder.

God, if we lose O'Connor all hell is going to break loose in the senate.

All hell is going to break loose regardless of who resigns! :D

I'm more concerned about all sanity being lost in the Supreme Court.

But yeah. . .
All hell is going to break loose regardless of who resigns!
Things would be a lot more interesting though if the Republicans were breaking ranks more, and the Democrats hadn't closed theirs for this congress.

Am I the only person who noticed that?
Probably not. Pretty standard practice to do things like that in the old forum. 'Course there you could actually make the text disappear entirely on the forum.
I did feel compelled to add a disclaimer, to warn any of the few who still around who know me that I haven't lost the last threads of sanity I have. I think.

I'm still gonna try to avoid posting in General forum threads, but a Supreme Court thread still on its first page was just too hard for me to not pass up.
