"Insurgencies tend to go on five, six, eight, 10, 12 years," Rumsfeld told Fox News Sunday.

Let us not forget:

"I can't tell you if the use of force in Iraq today will last five days, five weeks or five months, but it won't last any longer than that."

Poll forthcoming.

12 Years! I am sure we will have T-800 type terminators by then; the the insurgency won't stand a chance. Sooner or later they will turn on us though. :(

Someone's been reading their Bob Herbert, I see. :)

I'd ask why Rumsfeld hasn't been canned yet, but considering that everyone else who's done shitty jobs in this administration has been promoted (Rice, Hadley, Bolton, etc.), or gotten medals (Tenet, Bremer, etc.) I guess the fact that Rumsfeld hasn't been made vice-God has got to count as a snub of sorts.

How does the new number "12 years" match with "mission accomplished" anyway?

The insurgency will probably still be a problem when my great-great-great grandchildren become great-great-great grandchildren. :(

Or perhaps great-great-great grandparents, even (I suspect they'll remain great-great-great grandchildren, come what may).

The insurgency will last longer than the Iraq you made. Iraq will break apart shortly after US forces leave, and the different countries will fight each other, mainly by sending insurgents into each other's cities.
The only safe places will be the compounds of the oil companies and the US Military Bases.
