Thanks lads! I figured you guys would know something.
Colonel Angus W. McDonald gave more direct info.
Hmmmj Ashby made the regiment famous but hey Angus did his own bit while he could.
Hmm my grandmother seems to have written a decent diary about living in the war. I will have to find a copy.

My father visited Petersburg National Battlefield a few years back. The archives there include the names and civil war records of everyone listed to have joined a Civil War regiment, on either side, and you can learn quit a bit that way. All you need is a name.
We had our ancestors name, and found out he was in an Alabama regiment ( I forget the exact number) from 7 Days until Lee's surrender, and was part of the Army of Northern Virginia for the entire time. Other family records provided us with the rest of the information on him (survived the war unwounded, returned home, had 13 kids, one of which is also my direct ancestor).
Its also a pretty interesting place to visit as well.

And if he didn't exist, then you must not either.

I think it was my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather that was in the Civil War on the Union side.
He won the medal of honour for leading his squad (unarmed except for a few pistol shots and their bayonettes/knives) against a Confederate cannon battery at some important battle or other.
On a semi-related note, it is just possible that my OTHER great to the something grandfather was the fellow that led the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears.

As one of your personalities, I will never go away!
Who else keeps you company? Who do you think talks to you in your mind?

Ah ha! Gotcha! Now if I can just identify those other voices!
Which one are you?
My cats are pissed at the one that counter-acts their orders!
And those two that always argue in the high squeaky voices are annoying.
Are you the one that claims to be Satan?
