Why do girls get all the good clothes?

Colodia

Seriously. If there's one thing I envy about girls, it's how they are constantly catered to in every shopping centre in this part of California.

Every store I go to, the girls clothing section is about twice as big as the guy's.

They get the better looking shoes. I mean seriously, they get some cute white ones sometimes.
They get better looking clothes. Really, collar shirts are great but they are getting on my nerves.

AND they get to ****ing wear makeup! What the hell? My face could use make up too ya know. But if I dare put some on I'd either be laughed at or considered gay.

I quite like my faded, relaxed-fit jeans, my loose shirt, and my black Reebok Classics.

I wouldn't want to wear women's clothing. It wouldn't look good on me, and I would feel... Strange, to say the least.

Well I don't mean I want to wear dresses. Good God.

I mean my whole wardrobe is really limited in terms of creativity.

I've been called metrosexual. I don't really know what metrosexual is 100% though.

But I'm not gay. I'm quite positive about that. I already went through the sexuality-questioning phase and came out straight.

Done right, people won't even be able to tell you're wearing it, so screw what they think and do what makes you happy.

I think it's because of the stereotype that, often enough, proves itself true that men don't care enough about fashion to provide enough of a demand for a constantly enlarging selection of clothes. I happen to be an odd exception to the rule: I love wearing tuxes/suits, love goth clothes (hardly wear any, though), and know how to dress up, and tell people what'd look good on them, but I just can't be bothered to really present myself, or care what I look like, except on special occasions.

A metrosexual is someone who has "gay" qualities but is straight - they care about what they wear, what they look like, get manicures, that stuff.

Umm, never been in a really good Menswear store have you?

Dude, go out and spend a huge wad of $$$ on a really good suit and the accesories (wallet, shoes, belt, a tie if you like wearing a leash) You'll love yourself for it, and look like a million bucks.

Other great things you can find in a good menwswear store (Boss, Harry Rosen, and many indepedents): Tailored shirts, ties that don't look stupid, nice socks, great shoes both dress and casual, shirts, sweaters, slacks. All your whims and urges for fancy, great looking clothes will be attended to and encouraged, your vanity encouraged, self-image boosted.

Day to day, I wear loose, comfy jeans and t-shirts (sweaters in the winter). My job invovles getting dirty in ways most would never think of. But if I'm going out for a night on the town, I dress up. I do get some funny looks sometimes when I DJ @ a club dressed in a tailored suit (no tie) and proceed to play 140+ BPM Techno & Dark Electro, but all the girls and most guys get what its all about.

Oh yeah, a good, fitted suit is *extremely* comfortable, you'd be surprised.

personally, i don't like having to makes choices nor to i care. i wish everything would be acceptable to wear everywear and that you never need to worry if your tie matches your shirt and you're wearing a brown belt with black shoes or any of that. its just seems pointless to me. but its true, i do hate all of the choices i do have at stores. whats with the holes already torn into your jeans? i had a great pair of jeans that after many years of use had a hole worn in the back pocket and some holes elsewhere. i had to stop wearing them one someone asked me if i tore the holes myself of if i bought them somewhere, and if i bought them where. i don't like fads.

I used to think that way too. ACtually a well made suit is much better in a fight than a pair of baggy pants...which tend to trip you up. The funny thing is that I usually wear baggy pants and ratty old t-shirts, all stained from various acids, splashed with liquid ceramic spots, oil paint, engine grease, oil, you name it. Guess thats why I enjoy suits so much now.

As for the make-up side...since i don't use it anymore i can only say THANK GAWD! Its hot and sweaty... heavy and makes you feel as if you have a mask on...you have to check your face every hour to make sure you have not smeared it somewhere.....and really now who really wants to look at themselves that much. Ok Ok i admit there are some that enjoy looking in the mirror....But natural beauty is best...besides when you marry them they stop trying to dress to impress...they got you.

That can't be it. Have you seen a rap video lately. No one would accuse those guys of being effeminate, except may 50 Cent, and they spend thousands, to millions on clothes and jewellry. And it's all ugly as shit. I don't care how many diamonds you put on a platinum hubcap, it doesn't make a good necklace.

Plus, I remember in high school the unfashionable guys caught all sorts of flak for wearing clothes that weren't in vogue or weren't expensive. What they weren't allowed to do was wear clothes that were nice. $500 worth of FUBU and a thousand dollar diamond studded crucifix is a fashion statement, but a $1,500 Armani suit makes you a dork.

No, if you've got the cash, get bespoke. Armani is poorly made crap.

If you cant afford bespoke but still have a lot of money, get Kiton

or Brioni or if you like a conservative look, Oxxford clothes. Or a *really* conservative look: J Press.

For my money, i say Kiton/Attolini/Borrelli, but thats just because I like the neapolitan look.

Men dont have nice shoes, eh?

Try some Lobb Bespokes, or Vass Bespokes.

Or some good old american made Aldens, or some nice northamptonshire shoes, like Grenson Masterpieces or Crockett & Jones handgrade.

For the latter, you honestly cant beat P Lal (google it).

My dad has a Utilikilt! He never wears it, tho. He bought it with his best friend (or as we say, his "boyfriend" though botha re straight and married) Bob...a bonding thing, perhaps?

Foundation and pantyhose SUCK. I never wear foundation, I wear very little makeup in fact, and only wear pantyhose max. 5 times a year. Give me a nice cute polo shirt any day, khakis, or surfer-type clothing and I'm happy.

Personally I'm jealous of some men's wear! I've bought men's sweaters on sale at Gap, and surf shorts (more comfortable and CHEAPER than girls) at Boathouse.

My sister has a friend whose mom bought him a pair of jeans. He was wearing them one day and commented that he found them uncomfortable. The next day they checked the tag: Women's bootleg cut from the Gap. ? Thanks, mom!

colodia, you can DO this

its just harder for men to find the right stuff for a price they can afford. but when you get it right, its much more dramatic then when a girl gets to wear the same outfit as lindsey lohan did in herbie.

girls have so many choices that it dilutes true taste.

so what to do?

you live in the land of fashion. go to second hand and vintage clothing stores. the stuff is great and priced at a fraction of its original cost. if you can find clothing that was fashionable for men in southern california in the 30's - 50s you will have a wonderful time picking out the right look for you.

dont BOTHER with the mall, its a vacant wasteland dedicated to selling overpriced clothing to people who have no fashion sense of their own. even if you find a nice shirt, 10000 other people will be wearing it too.

get some pencil eye liner. start with black. you can add other colors later if you want. practice making a very thin line on the OUTSIDE edge of your lashes (putting eyeliner on the inside edge closest to the eye promote eye infections) if the line is thin enough, it will make a dramatic effect without screaming "MAN IN MAKEUP" to the world. you can branch out from there.

when you find a great look, we need a picture!

The differences in guy and girl fashion were fully shown at our graduation ball. All the guys had haircuts, but none of the girls did. All the guys looked pretty much the same (what other formal clothing is there apart from suits?? I had a friend who wore the traditional Chinese suit, and that blew everybody away), while the girls looked dazzling in 50 different dresses and hairstyles. Guys have nothing to show but hair. Girls get to dress up. *sulks*

I have yet to see a man look bad in custom tailored Armani suits. Ever.

Armani suits cost more than that! And they look great if it fits your business attire. (I'm not talking about kicking around in casual clothing... I guess I'm thinking corporate look.)

Other than that, I'm kind of a believer in "wear whatever the hell you want and if someone else doesn't like it, screw them... they don't have to wear it".

(I'm a woman btw, and addicted to shopping. However, because of my current lifestyle, it's almost all casual. It's true. There is a much larger selection of clothing, shoes, etc. for women than for men. There just is. It has to be a market thang, or it wouldn't be that way. There must not be as much demand for a large variety of men's clothing, or someone would be there to supply it.

Colodia - I'm a woman and I hate the clothing selection so much that I go out of my way to try and find guy's clothing that fits me.

For a few reasons...

1 - it's loose and I don't feel like if I eat that fullsize meal at licks my shirt is going to rip

2 - even though my ass doesn't look fat in those pants, they are still rising up my ass crack and it's NOT fun

3 - there are too many pastel and wussy colours

4 - it costs too much for so little fabric.

You really don't want to wear women's clothes; it's SO very uncomfortable (unless you were old lady clothing).

Jeseys do kick ass, man. I've got two authentic Dan Marino jerseys from his days with the Pittsburgh Panthers (NCAA Football). One's a size 56 (growing into it), and one's a size 48 (I wear it a lot... Everywhere, really).

Pfff, just wear a loose, raggy shirt, faded, relaxed-fit jeans, tennis shoes, and sunglasses for a week. Come on, try it. It feels good.

Notice that I didn't say to wear socks or underwear. Now, socks are completely optional... Underwear, however, must be forsaken completely.
With jeans? Talk about chafing, I can hardly stand jeans even with underwear. Also when you cross your legs the zipper puts undue pressure on, ehem, sensitive areas...

I agree that the selection of stores for women to shop at huge, but the selection of clothes is limited. So many stores carry the same stuff, while guys have a huge range of clothing, it's just really harder to find. Personally, I dress in a kilt, a black dress shirt, steel toed combat boots, a tight fitting trench coat that looks kinda like the thing Neo wears when he has the crazy lobby scene fight in the original movie, and black make-up. I don't live in a town that is very accepting of my tastes.. very small minded population, so of course I can't find any place around where I live to shop, so what you need to do if you don't have access to clothing immediately is be patient and pick it up in bits and peices where ever you go. I mean, I went to italy last summer for a summer course, so I had to leave some of my clothes behind (leather boots don't like the sun much), but I still managed to look more fashionable then any of the girls who spent hundreds of dollars on their wardrobes. I spent the bare minimum, but I was memorable. Black dress shirt and black dress pants.. nothing out of the usual.. but a white fadora too that I bought for about $8.. now my point to that long winded talk, even if you don't have the money to spend, or the huge selection of stores to go to, if you can get an image that people remember, then you're already way ahead of both men and women who are forced to shop within the norm.

it's funny, whereas i'm catered-to constantly by clothesmakers, i always have a similar complaint. "why do all the guys get the good clothes?"

guys clothes are more comfortable and looser.. and see, whereas we do have more clothes, they are much more form fitting, and therefore harder to find items that work exactly well. shirts are easier to make work, by far, but as far as the pants department goes... bah. that's where the rockin skirts come in. and for that i say hooray.

but all in all, i hate shopping. i really do. so i rarely go, and when i do, it's to thrift/vintage stores. yay.

but however i do say "hahah yesss" when it comes to makeup. i don't wear much, just eyeliner/mascara, but it does seem to move mountains for me. and as for concealer on those rare occasions when it is neccisary, well, it's nice to have. i feel bad that guys can't reap its benefits sometimes.

and i feel bad that guys who try to wear concealer (and can't match their skin tone quite right or something) and get caught doing so are often made the jests of their peers for long amounts of time... bah, double standards.

If you've got the cash, hit Armani! ;)
Did that this week. Great clothes. Also - more importantly - they have clothes that fit me. It's just ridiculous what some clothing outfits try to get away with! I asked for an XL shirt and measured it against myself. It went from my left shoulder to half-way across my right chest. I know I'm fairly large, but that's ridiculous. There's no way in the World you could have called it XL. The XXL barely fitted me. When did they start reducing the standard labels on clothes?
I went to 5 stores before I could find a jacket that fitted me. And of course it was Armani. Bought 2 shirts, pants and jacket. Also 2 Versace shirts and a tie.
That's the biggest problem for guys - really nice clothes cost a fortune. Cheap clothes look cheap. But for girls cheap clothes still look pretty good. Cuase of the variety I guess.

Tight jeans are just not right. I personally like mine looser, but not baggy.I don't like them either. Feels too uncomfortable. And if it's hot, you sweat heaps cause your legs can't breath. And you can't move quickly in them.

I've been called metrosexual. I don't really know what metrosexual is 100% though.

But I'm not gay. I'm quite positive about that. I already went through the sexuality-questioning phase and came out straight.

Well, I think anyone who has to take some kind of test to see if they are straight or gay is just as bad as taking a test to see if you are right or left handed. If you fantisize about guys you ARE gay no matter what anything else tells you.

I am confused when you say you want guys clothes to be more "creative". Do you mean you want to wear clown costumes or something?

those jeans can be killer, but when i am tempted to buy jeans like that, i think to myself, "suicide is not the answer". then i leave them on the hanger and find some pants that fit better.

i absolutely love jeans, and when i can find a pair that looks good and still feels righteous... yes. that's the money. i had a perfect pair (they were supposed to be $125, but i got them for $15 - yesss thrift stores) that completely rocked, but i wore the ass out of them recently. my jeans go through a lot of wear and tear. i still wear them time to time, but its a risky business.

gaucho pants (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006I3ILE.01-A39U745IDK2WMA._AA400_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg) are the way to go, i swear. + skirts. + other good stuff.

That's rather absolutist. That's like saying if I dream about Mickey Mouse, I'm into "furries". Nothing wrong with fantasizing about your own gender (or even furries) - and even then, fantasy doesn't make you anything. Only reality can do that.

Hmmm...I'm afraid I can't give very much advice here. I'm a guy and pay no attention whatsoever to clothing. I just throw on whatever happens to be sitting nearest to my bed for casual clothing, and amazingly I manage to look good and feel good at the same time in it. Of course, as my mom explained to me, she buys clothes that are all roughly similar to the kind of thing I like, so whatever I put on is fine.

And for formal dress, I simply throw on a black cloak that covers my entire body and falls to the ground so I can move noiselessly; with a hood that covers my head, and a black mask over my face. On the mask are two phosphorent red almods, right under my eyes. It's very effective. ;) *tries to imagine everyone's faces when they picture my formal attire*

My dad has a Utilikilt! He never wears it, tho. He bought it with his best friend (or as we say, his "boyfriend" though botha re straight and married) Bob...a bonding thing, perhaps?

I keep meaning to get one for myself. A good friend of mine (male, macho ex-USMC, married to a beautiful lady) has one and wears it whenever he can.

Foundation and pantyhose SUCK. I never wear foundation, I wear very little makeup in fact, and only wear pantyhose max. 5 times a year. Give me a nice cute polo shirt any day, khakis, or surfer-type clothing and I'm happy.

Bras - yeah. I understand it can be a damned either way case - uncomfortable to wear, uncomfortable not to wear.

And I was thinking foundation garments, but the make-up is bad too. I do occassional stage and street acting, it can be nasty.

The company (a continuing education ESL business) I used to work for here in Osaka (hot and humid summer climate) required women to wear hose. The only time I know a co-worker got out of it, she did it the easy way. Most of the Japanese office staff were women. The teacher in question just mentioned "woman trouble", humidity, and "itching" in the same sentence. The staff all nodded knowingly, while grimacing, and said "OK, you don't have to, just stop talking about it!"

Anyway, whenever I start thinking about having to wear a tie in 35+ deg. C weather, I stop and thank fate I don't have to wear all the extras that women do. And it makes me appreciate it even more when a woman takes extra pains to look good just for me. :D

first of all, why would a guy want to put makeup of his face, is he a mime or something? Second, the reason that women clothing stores are larger is because THEY SHOPP A HELL OF A LOT MORE THEN GUYS on average. this means they are a bigger target for clothing manufaturers like Sears and Nike.

But at times i wonder, why do girls get all the breaks? I mean, they expect 19th century treatment in politness and they also expect equality. A big contridiction. Most of the girls I know who i would consider going out with are tom-boys or bitches (not in the mean I-will-kill-you-when-I-get-the-chance way, but in the teasing way)
