An Open Apology

Keruvalia
25-06-2005, 03:04
For a brief time here on NS General, I made a few posts that said I was in the US Army ... specifically, a US Army Ranger.

Unfortunately, I was bitten by my own bug. I like to go onto forums and fuck around and pretend to be something just for the sake of the anonymity of the internet.

Never once did I ask for thanks, praise, or money for my ruse; but it was offensive nonetheless. There are those on these forums who have served and I have done them a great injustice.

For the public record, I have never served. I admire and appreciate those who have, but I myself have not.

Unfortunately, this has cast a shadow on some of the other things which I have said on these forums that are true: I am of Caddo descent. My grandmother was one of the last of the full blooded Nakohodotsi and I'm very proud of that. I am Muslim, converted on Nov. 29, 2004 at the mosque at ISGH North in Houston, TX (not difficult to verify). I am Jewish, though I will not give you my mother's phone number to verify that (like I want some of you pervs calling my mother).

I just wanted to set the record straight. I am an internet asshole, yes, but even I think I went too far in claiming to be one of our fine men in uniform.

I deeply and humbly apologise.

No ... it's just the internet. A place I've seen as a fun little playground for many years. Perhaps my opnion on that is changing.

What made you pretend in the first place? Why not be yourself?

One of those things. I've always liked the anonymity of the internet. However, with this, I went too far.

My conscious played on me. Why not be myself? In most ways, I am. Especially in the last couple of years, but I still have that instinct to hide myself on the internet.

So ... I spit out a couple of messages that were an affront to the men and women who are serving my country now - regardless of whether or not you agree with that service - and my conscious got the better of me for it.

Well Captian Kirk (If you still remember that), we are all internet jerks. Why else would we be here?

I can't remember wether or not I ever heard/read you say you were a US Army Ranger, and frankly I don't care. Really, all of the stuff I've seen you post is either really funny, or actually makes sense. I see no reason for you to be appologising.

But if you insist, it's accecpted.

Oh ease up a little.

He apologized so for someone like me? "Done and done"

Move on and forgetaboutit.

People say many things in the heat of passion. Character is what makes a person realize they said something bad and own up to it.

No worries!

So .. yeah. :) I have to.

I remember. I being an actual former soldier did not believe you at the time, and it did cause me to be extremely dismissive of your other posts.

I accept your apology, and leave you with these passages reguarding forgiveness and apology...

Luke 6:37 - Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Luke 17:4 - And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

2 Corinthians 2:7 - So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

Ephesians 4:32 - And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

If only the world would follow these words we could "all just get along".

you have earned my respect, keruvalia

its easy as can be to just fold up your tent and go away on the net. ive seen it many many times. sometimes people come back again under another name and give it another try. i thought that would be what you would do. i was wrong.

to face the music on this and apologize and stay when you can just as easily find another internet home requires a bit of courage. im glad you stayed.

I understand being anonymous, but..you can still be yourself, without a name and other real world identifiers. It's best to stay true to yourself. If you don't, people will eventually find out, or at least suspect, and it will invalidate any of your valid points you've made, and people's general trust in you. Just my friendly advice.

Although I didn't see the outrageous stuff that must have gone on with Keruvalia, that he feels apologetic for now, I agree with the apology was given and that forgiveness is in order. Being a veteran and a Christian, I agree with the scriptures quoted, done. And that's the end of that topic...

However, different topic, that last statement, about everyone following these words and we would all get along... Most people don't apologize, none of those scripture said to forgive anyone or anything before an apology is given. That is the primary difference.

I think you may be wrong here. For instance...

My mother was beaten by her father all throughout her childhood, she grew up to be a christian woman. She forgave him in her heart even though an apology was never spoken. She put it behind her and led a happy life. Later when her father was dying from Alziemers she was the only one who would accept him.

Mark 11:25 - And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Also, read the lords prayer. Does it say (as we forgive those who tresspass against us) "if they apologise first"?

I always wonder how many people on line are what/who they say they are. I'm sure there are a lot of people who put on facades. I don't see a reason for it. It isn't necessary. Just be yourself. It's nice that you finally owned up to it. :)

It does take guts to apologize. I can't do it for one. Not that I ever need to ;), even though everyone thinks I'm a total asshole for never apologizing. Which is true. But I'm rambling on here for no reason, so anyway...yeah.

I forgive you, however, this is the reason I will *never* meet anyone from the internet. I can trust them that they are who they say they are, but there's no proof, so without it, no way I'd agree to meet someone. That said, it took courage to apologise when none was necessary (nobody would have found out, so ignorance would have been bliss:p) and I respect that.

As for the guys who quoted scripture, I think you'll find Keru is a Muslim, therefore scripture probably holds slightly less with him.
