...I'm sick...
I'm sick of having an illness I'll carry with me to my grave...
I'm sick of having a disease that is trivialized...
I'm sick of being called a freak by my peers...
Sick of being told I cannot express anger...
Sick of being told I am anti-social...
Sick of being told I've been "sheltered" all my life then appologised to...
Sick of being told I've had it "easy"...
I'm sick of having my life compared to others...
I'm sick of having so many expectations placed upon me...
I'm sick of having no say in what happens to my body...
I'm sick of having no father in life to turn to...
I'm sick of not being listened to...
Sick of the bullshit...
...Sick of it all...

[/rant]

Thank you...

Do you really have a disease, or are you just ranting because you feel like ranting and sounding melodramatic.

Right on. It's nice to see someone understands that emotional pain is no less real than physical pain.

What's your illness?

I have Crohns, which is a chronic intestinal ailment. I've had a rather bad bout resently and I frankly feel like shit. And yet it seems so trivialized. No one takes into account how I feel. Apparently I am not able to experience strong "negative" emotions, since it may exaserbate the problem.

I generally like to spend time alone. In response people say that I'm "sheltered" and "anti-social". And yet people expect me to do everything. Juggle a job, Eagle Project, drivers-ed, my ailment and my sanity all at once. I can't even begin how many times I've been told "...When I was yur age I was already working/in college/living alone."

I'm not sure what to think of my dad. I haven't seen him in months. He dissapears. I try to understand because he is sick as well but...he doesn't take any responsibility for it. He's fathered 6 children to 3 mothers. I feel like he's abandoning me and my brothers like he did to his first daughter. I've been told that being in Boy Scouts would help find "father figures" problem is, I don't see them much. I can't explain it. We have little in common, but I still love the guy. I just want to see him again...

It's got the word intestinal in it, I don't want to know what it is.

First post did sound a bit off, but now I agree with Ashmoria, you've got a right to be pissed off.

I guess this is as good a place as any to let it all out. I dont know much about that disease, but it sounds awful.

You do have to let off the steam. I'm sorry I dont have any helpful advice-I've no experience with your situation. But I do hope you can smooth things out on all fronts and find some comfort and help.
Best wishes.

Crohn disease is terribly painful, dangerous and unpredictable.
It's in the "auto immune" diseases, along with multiple sclerosis, lupus and chronic inflammatory arthritis. Some researchers say all these diseases may be related. There is currently no cure and very few effective treatments.

People suffering from this disease must change their lifestyles: radically controlled eating habits and NO STRESS.

Some people say the multiple sclerosis diet works for crohn sufferers: no dairy, no grain, ..., the list gets long.

Each acute crisis could kill you. It's extremely painful. Usually you end up on the op table and they remove 2-3 feet of damaged small intestine. In the long run, it can be debilitating.

I'm sorry to hear of your problem. I was in a similar situation a few years ago with an undiagnosible, but similar, ailment and have since recovered. Have you considered doing some serious research on alternative treatments, particularly diet?

I started my research here: www.mercola.com

Hang in there.

Hmmm let me guess. Coeliac disease?
It's more common than we think (up to 10% of the population may be affected.)

If you want to someone to talk about it with you can email me. You can trust me to be confidential. I can tell you what I learned about diet and what worked for me.

Sarkasis - mine was never diagnosed. After going through all the standard testing I focused on diet and recovered. That's the abbreviated version.

Crohns.

That is one serious, major, kick in the tits.

Feel free to rant.

My mother has IBS, which isn't as bad but has still messed her life up completely.

My sympathy.

My wife has the Coeliac disease (gluten intolerence/allergy) and it was really killing her social life: she was always tired and had digestive problems, hair problems and skin problems too.
The doctors usually don't give a shit a bout these auto-immune diseases (because it's not cancer, you don't bleed and no bone is broken). Most of them don't even know how to establish the diagnostic. After being turned away by a few arrogant doctors, we found one who gave some important advice. Now my wife is on a strict gluten/wheat-free diet and feels much better.

I sure do agree with your statement about the doctors. I was fortunate to find a good one who told me flatly that they didn't know much about the relationship between diet and health and that I'd progress further on my own than with mainstream medicine.

I eliminated wheat/gluten among other things with good success. Initially I became strictly vegetarian and then gradually introduced other foods one at a time, observing the effect on my intestines. Years later I find I can eat bread in small amounts, but only home-made sourdough with a high rye flour component.

It's hard avoiding gluten completely since it's added to so many products - pickles and some beer, for instance. Since there are no labeling equirements I try to avoid processed foods and additives as much as possible. Also some food additives can cause allergic reactions and it's near impossible to determine which ones cause the problem.

Avoiding milk and sugar, particularly in combination, really helped too. I sure miss my milk and cooky snack before bedtime!

Hey a friend of mine has that, Any asshole who thinks you have it easy itsn't worth your time. My friend had it pretty bad, she couldn't really go to college, but apparently there is a new drug, which is being t ested, luckily she got into the trails and it is hoped it will either remove or severly lessen the disease. You have every right to rant.

That sucks about your Dad. Its totally understandable why you would feel that way. Whether you like it or not, he is part of you and its perfectly natural for you to want to spend time with him.

I know I've a check to say this to you but every thing happens for a reason, and things do work out in the end. I hope you'll feel better and if you ever need a rant again, just give me a shout :)

Do you have the list of grains containing gluten?
Wheat has the highest level, followed by barley. Oats has a lower level, but still enough to make some coeliac people sick.
Rye is often well tolerated, although my wife won't dare trying.
Be careful, as sometimes wheat is hidden behing other words, especially "kamut", "triticale", "whole grain", "starch", "vegetable proteins" and so on.

Safe grains include: buckwheat, rice, quinoa, corn, tapioca, ... We use them all!
I think some african grains such as sorgho and mil are safe too.

Some people have suggested that coeliacs shouldn't eat beans, because of some other proteins that may cause them irritation. This is true with both green beans and dried beans. Same thing about peanuts and cashew (although other nuts are OK).

If your intestines have been stressed by years of gluten abuse, it's good to completely stop grains, beans, dairies for a few weeks. Eat well cooked meat (chicken and veal are the best), fish, well cooked vegetables. Then you can reintegrate everything except wheat of course. Don't keep this diet too long, it will make you vitamin-depleted and very sick.

The best diagnostic for the coeliac disease is: how do you feel after breakfast? Since most people eat cereals or bread at breakfast, and to make things worse (for coeliacs) they eat whole-grain, it's in the morning that you feel the worse. My wife was very sleepy, hungry, tired until lunch.

Now she eats her wheat-free corn flakes or corn-rice bread toasts in the morning, and she feels good!

The best part of the gluten-free "diet" (way of life!!!) is that she can't eat most of the fast food (only the fries) and we have to cook most of our meals. It makes us more healthy. At the grocery, we're the ones with a truckload of meat, cheese, fruits and veggies in our caddie.

I'd just like to thank everyone who has offered advice, comforting words or just a listening ear. I feel better today (I had a cookie...it was good). Yeah there are definately days where I want to put my fist through the wall.

But I've made a pact with myself. I worked an eight hour shift on my third week on the job today. I'm working four tommorrow. When it turns monday, I'm going to go to the Lowell Cinema (stadium-style seats) watch TWO movies (Land of the Dead and War of the Worlds) and get the biggest soda ON THE EARTH.

I feel I've earned it...dammit!

Again, much love to all. :fluffle:
