Mad cow case confirmed in the US. Relax, it was a downer cow, that the USDA insists never entered the food chain.

The origin of the cow has not been traced yet, so no one knows if it was born in Canada or the US. (As I'm sure most of you recall, the first US mad cow was born in Canada, and finger-pointing proceeded on both sides of the border.)
The afflicted cow is actually one that tested inconclusive last November. I have no idea why it took until early June to send the brain to the UK for testing. And why the USDA can't confirm it's own tests, for that matter, but that's probably a different thread.
I have to wonder if the retesting is a result of the CBC exposeƩ in April that essentially claimed that the USDA was covering up evidence of BSE in the US.
