RealPlayer(tm) = Spawn of Satan

Anyone else here think RealPlayer is the most insufferable, evil and useless audio program? If you install it on your system, thats it, you're now OWNED by RealPlayer. Its spreads itself like some mind of plague and has the sound fideltiy of a a dog vomitting over a telephone line.

I suppose some will disagree, but I suspect they are few and far between.

That's why I use Windows Media Player. I hate RealPlayer and its pesky ads and requests to register.

Anything else is better than RP. I have uninstalled it. It is nororiously greedy and unstable.

I use:
- Quicktime
- Winamp
- iTunes/iStore
- Windows Media Player
- CDex (for ripping CDs)

All these programs do a decent job.

I used MMJB until they updated it and completely changed hte guid so its now one huge fucknig horribly ugly thing that you can't edit or mvoe around to do anything with, and since you can only change the skin instead of the gui, it was no longer worth using any more. Now I have winamp, which is stupid - you have to set it so double click is on queue or double click is play, so either it doesnt ply when you add it to the list or it overwrites anything playing, I wrote a script for mIRC that is SMARTER THAN THAT, took me 3 god damn seconds to do it too. If it is the first thing added to the list: play it, if not, queue it, it can't be that hard. But now I'm just ranting about winamp

Real Player pisses me off, hardly ever works with it's own files with no method for me to figure out why. It doesn't infiltrate my system because iTunes has already gone around and peed on all the trees in my computer, but it still sucks goatass. The only reason I have it is because I need it to watch films on triggerstreet.com.

Funny, I hear people complaining about this and RP all the time, yet it's mever happened to me, this "spreading" of itself. If you're careful when you install it, all those extras can be avoided. The startup program that it and Quicktime and numerous others seem to like to install is easily quashed and that's pretty much it.

Now, the programme itself is an abomination and I use it for this one online radio station that just refuses to offer other formats, and it is annoying that a media player has to be such a memory hog and require that much work before you let it install itself... but then again, in Linux it doesn't do any of the things it does in Windows, because, well, it can't. It just installs. But, then, in Linux, you can use other programmes to play real-streams, so...

If you take an infinitve number of monkeys, give them an infinite ammount of time they will eventually produce the works of shakespear.

RealPlayer/RealJukebox = two monkies, two days.

I prefer QuickTime myself

I use Media Player Classic (K-Lite mega codec pack) for video files, or WMP when watching a collection (e.g. succeeding episodes of a show). iTunes/foobar2000/FireFox (online radio) for music.

I've actually never used RealPlayer. Barely knew about it, before hearing all the negative stuff about it, so've never even attempted to use it.

Well, so far the poll is going about as I thought it would. Not surprised to see a couple people like it...it has its uses and maybe they can circumvent its problems. It all depends on how you use your system to begin with I guess.

it's been around for, what, 10 years?

The first version of RP I used (a looong) time ago used to bring my Windows down with him. OK, fair enough... if I was dying i would want to bring my enemies down with me too.

But version after version of this crappy little bugger are still as unstable, annoying, heavy, convoluted, non-functional. Even the RP launcher jams from times to times (...have to kill the process, which uses 100% CPU).

I still get strange error messages about my "codecs being (maybe) not up-to-date" even though I had updated them & rebooted 5 minutes before. Sometimes it's about "corrupted files". And sometimes the damn player just freezes. And you never seem to have the "latest version", even though you DO have it.

I too had that first version 10 years ago. It was a piece of shit. I haven't run ANY version of RP since. I can't figure out why its still around, except that it perhaps taps into some Cthuliod Netherspace and replicates itself by taking over peoples minds. Or maybe they just pay certain sites to use RP only, thus forcing people to DL its evil little self.

I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DESPISE REALPLAYER!!! Now that that's off my chest let me explain why. One: on the music store it keeps thinking im on a different computer every time so i need customer support to delete all the profiles so i can listen to my purchased music. Second: It crashed one day and no longer recognizes that 250 of my tracks exist in it's library. They're there in the file it's just that the crappy program doesn't recognize that they're there.
