I was just wondering if there were any yugioh card game players on NS. I have been playing since it came out. And I have finally created the complete archfiend deck for any of you who know what i am talking about, but if any of you play post here and describe you deck. Or you can ask questions or even bash the game....

waaaait....did you actually just tell him to "go outside" so that he can discover yugioh...im not even sure how to respond to that without laughing.

ok i have to laugh at you... "go outside" was not meant for him to actually go outside to find yugioh. it was an expression, like wake up and smell the coffee-it doesn't meant for you to wake up a smell some coffee... i swear you people take thing why to seriously.

...You've been playing it for over 3 years then?

I remember it being popular in 6th grade, I just got out of 9th grade.

Never liked it. Pokemon taught me a lesson. I was just in 6th grade, but I understood propaganda when Yugioh came into the picture.

mmmmh, coffee.
:)
No seriously, I'm not interested. I have never watched it on TV, and my life is busy enough as it is, what with work, Uni and so on.
I'd rather raise concerns about Companies creating cultures and imposing them on kids in order to sell stuff. Is that ethical?

You mean Japanese culture?

Eh, it's inevitable when you have a free market. It should be welcomed, actually. Though not excessively like some freaks in my high school take it. *gag*

WARNING!

The preceeding post was sarcastic -- a joke, in fact -- and designed to alert you to the point that a cartoon show dedicated and designed to advertising this insipid game also exists. It's much like Pokemon in that nobody can take a game seriously that needs to have a cartoon sell it. I think.

I've actually flipped past the cartoon a couple of times, and it reminds me a lot of watching golf on TV. I'd rather be playing. There's no action -- it's just close-ups of principal characters thinking reeeeeally hard to themselves as they "duel" one another with decks that have really dumb names for creatures and spells. Oh, and the "tough" kid has a really bad Brooklyn accent. I swear that 'toon must take three people to produce...much like the game.

But hey, not to slag you if you like it. I'm sure Yu-Gi-Oh and other preschool card games could be gateways to games with actual strategy and tactics in them. Enjoy yourself.

2. It should be welcomed, actually.
1. Well, it isn't exactly Japanese culture that is being sold? I'd like to think of Japanese culture as tea ceremonies, sumo wrestling and "Iron Chef". ;)
2. Why?

Well, actually this only works in the U.S. technically. Cultures should be welcomed and integrated into American culture. Only by taking in all cultures of the world can we really be a multi-cultural nation.

If you deny one culture, your not really a nice nation at all. For lack of a better word at 10:48 at night.

the game spans out , and is not limited to age. I started when my son started. a little father son activity. But i really got into the game, and so did my coworkers. We have our own tourny at work sometimes. But even if you are busy. you can still atleast get the general idea just from about 3 min of watching it. I work in the military. US army 101st aribourne out of tennesee. so trust me i know busy

By culture I really meant a "youth culture", you know, like baggy pants or shoulder pads.
When companies invent youth cultures for the kids, don't the kids miss out on creating their identity?

It's an important part of one's development. Even if people like to deny it later...
But even worse is when they use these cultures to draw people into a life-long habit. Like McDonald's advertising.

Wow. Just wow.

I was never really interested in Yu-Gi-Oh. The show was too boring for my tastes, plus it took the game WAY too out of proportion. (Like how they "originate from Ancient Egypt" and cause weather changes and destruction.) The card game and video game was also not my taste, either.

or maybe they are making tools to help them create there own id. in life.

Eh, I'm 14. I gotta say, I don't even see the effectiveness of such culture in high school in any case. I see worse cases of goths and emos. And those damn rich preps.

Identities are being created just fine.
