Do any of you know about any good film schools?
You can list a howl bunch of names if you want.
I was thinking perhaps schools in:
U.S.A.-Los Angeles
Scotland-Edinburgh or Glasgow
Ireland Rep.-Dublin
Germany-Berlin
Gah, I think on a field trip to UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) they told us that UCLA had a really good film school. Although I didn't pay too much attention to that aspect.
Anyone want to confirm or deny?

UCLA and USC are the 'big daddies' in SoCal. You can also go to AFI but I have a sneaking suspicion that they just make you compile thier lists for them...

I am a little hesitant about schools like these. I don't know how much respect they get from the hiring crews, or how successful thier alumnus are. That is the real key, more so in film than just about any other field. You need a lot of industry people in hiring positions to have come from that school, which honestly is where the strength of USC and UCLA lie. You really can learn the equipment and software from a book, and spend the tuition on the camera and learn rudementary aspects yourself. (to get asthetics you have to study or practice a whole lot and hope your a genius...) What you want is contacts, people you know and who know you. If LA Films school can give that to you great. If not, it's a scam.

Well I know people in LA so I could get a job either way.
Not all directors go to film school.
I want to go to film school and learn this stuff really well...If you take a look at the 'Faculty' page at lafilm.com you'll see that they are people that work for studios, have made films etc. It cant really be scam can it??
Also take a look at °the 'News' section'.

'Scam' was a poor choice of words on my part. I believe the school is on the up and up, and certainly believe in what they are doing.
Most schools like this (even the real scam ones) make a lot of their alumnus, which is the first place I look. I was having trouble getting a lot of the pages to load and got frustrated by the vagueness of thier cirriculum(sp) page, so I made a snap(ish) judgment. There are dozens of these schools and not being all the way in the industry myself it's hard to tell how much love they get.
Faculty is a good thing (the 'in' that I got was through an industry placed faculty member, and I gotta tell ya-it's one sweeeeeet hook up. Fingers crossed, hasn't come to paychecks yet but we're close and he's excited, so I'm excited.)
I would ask your connection in the biz what his impressions of these schools are, that'll tell the tale.

Okay, thanks.
It's great you have a connection, hope it workes out for you.
P.S. you live in Cal. right?
What does it cost to rent a studio or a 1 bedr. in the L.A. area c.a.?
How much c.a. does food cost for, lets say, a month at a cheap, on a budget, student type of store?

I'm in NorCal, so it's different. Remember, California is as big as some countries. For me LA is a five to six hour drive (I drive a VW bus, so it takes me longer...). It is not wise for me to be doing what I'm doing here instead of there, but I really really hate LA.
I think renting a room lowballs around 300 to 400, but I don't know for real.
Heres (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/roo/) the standard Craigslist rooms for rent listing, that should give you an idea.
I have a feeling that at the end of the summer my contact is going to put the kybosh on me staying up here, probably with a sentence like "If you're serious about doing this then you're going to have to get over this and get down here where the work is." And he'll be right.
Dammit.
But I'm going to wait until he does.
