Tell us, what is going on in your home town/county? Your state (Nation if you're not American)?
I really see alot of national (American) and worldwide news being discussed on this forum but not alot of local or foreign news.

In my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, the big news is this new basketball stadium. It's only in the planning stages now. They're still deciding where to build it. I'm hoping they choose to build it on the corner 15th and Main. It's kind of a ghetto area and could really use an economic boost plus it's close enough to downtown that all the buisinesses in that area will benifit as well. We've been trying to revitalize dowtown for years with little success.
Also, the pollution control board unanimously passed a new stricter set of standards for industrial waste. Conservatives, are saying this will cause the city to loose jobs, but it will also probably raise property values in Rubbertown and Butchertown. Those areas litterally stink with industrial waste.
In the state government, the Republican governer Ernie Fletcher's administration is being investigated for unethical highering practices. He claims that the investigation is politically motivated, that the democrats just want to make him look bad. The ironic thing, though, is that he won the last election by claiming that he would "clean up Frankfort (the capital of our state)" from ethical scandals.

So, what's happening in your part of the world?

The entire county of Riverside is considering packing up and moving to Canada because of the current administration.

Seriously though. I'd like to see that on the newspaper.

"In other news, an entire city gives up and moves hundreds of miles north, taking everything with them."

The nearby Aquarium had a Great White Shark for a little bit, but then it started chomping the other sharks in the tank in half. It left the tuna alone, but thats because the tuna had the good sense to stay the hell away from the Great White. They let it loose a bit ago.

It's not raining today, which is good because so far in June, this area has received triple the normal rainfall for the month.

Quebec province (and Canada).

- The universal medicare system was axed down by the supreme court.

- New windpower plants are being built in the eastern part of the province. It creates jobs. And local electricity production is a good thing in Gaspesie, since they're at the end of the end of the distribution network.

- The "subsidies scandal" commission (judge Gomery) kicks ass. The Federal Liberal government has misused public money during the last 10 years, and now it's time for them to be grilled.

- TV show "Virginie" is unkillable. Shit.

- Yet another scandal at the federal level: the current Liberal government tried to "pay" a Conservative deputy so that he changes allegiance.

- A very good movie titled "C.R.A.Z.Y." is #1 at the box office, in the province.

- At the provincial level, the Charest government is at an all-time low in terms of popularity (and, some say, intelligence).

- The PQ (Parti Quebecois, independentist) will choose a new leader in september. The current party leader, , has just resigned. The PQ the official opposition since 2000 (the year Charest was elected). Before 2000, they had 2 mandates.

- Spring time was shitty. Rainy, cold.

- The computer game dev industry is going very well in Montreal & in Quebec City.

- The liquor board (SAQ) had a very long strike during the winter. Add this to the NHL hockey strike, and you get a picture. Long. Dull. Winter.

- Oh yeah. And this winter, we bought submarines from the UK and one of them simply burned up during the delivery. One Canadian soldier was killed.

- In my immediate region (Bas-Saint-Laurent), not much is happening. Workers building a new section of highway 20. Crab & lobster season. Touristic season beginning. Preparations for the National Holiday on June 24th.

Otherwise, not much is happening.

In my home town,

The people are rallying behind to save a reserve base from being shut down. We have a pretty good chance too now that we have dispelled the myth that we don't have land to expand said base.

We will succeed in our efforts.

"SAVE OUR BASE! WE HAVE LAND!"

Sorry lost control of my self.

Summer fever has arrived in Montreal as everyone is partying during the nights and shopping during the days. Tomorrow is Quebec's national holiday and there are going to be multiple parades, shows, concerts, fireworks displays, and parties.

Also a new plan to construct a 20-storey casino that'll open up some 6,500 jobs has been revealed to the public. It is estimated that it will be a $1.175 billion project. It will probably be completed very early in the 2010's just after the completion of Montreal's other major project of constructing a 'super hospital' (which will be Canada's largest and one of the largest in the world). The casino is being called an opportunity to vault Montreal into the top ranks of international tourist destinations.

So, what's happening in your part of the world?
We recently had heavy rain and bad flooding in the central and southern part of the province. The rains raised the level of most rivers, and they overflowed their banks before they peaked.

In the city of Red Deer was an incident (http://www.mytelus.com/news/article.do?articleID=1959775&pageID=ab_archive) where people on a highway had slowed their cars to gawk at a high water. The highway was such that a rise in the road preceded the bridge. A truck driver, coming over the rise at the speed limit (100 kph) could not slow in time, hit the bridge and went into the river.

The five election day workers launched a bitter attack on the town board for moving the polling place from the fire hall to the school. In a surprise decision the town board reversed it's position, permitting voting to occur in it's traditional location location. Friendships have been broken and people volunteers have been forced from their positions in the fire dept. and ambulance corps.

In other news, the town board solved a slippery problem by approving the use of Goose-B-Gone on the ballfield. The recent population boom in Canada Geese has parents concerned about children sliding about in goose droppings. Last year's attempt at shooting all the geese failed when the one of the board members was ticketed by conservation officials.

Well the current Montreal casino is 2 km from this new site. So it won't change much, since it's just a relocation.
Crime rate is already very low. :D

It was just a wild guess.

That's because in my province, each year, about 500 000 persons move on July 1st and 2nd. That's because the standard appartment lease is from july to july.

Now just imagine the CHAOS in the streets.

Not to mention that 2 million persons hit the road to go on vacation on the same exact day.
