I thought about Syniks when I saw this

Yes, you don't stand in that spot when you yank the lanyard...
Something Syniks knows, and hopefully he never say anyone do this...

I laughed and pretended those were North Koreans. :D

YIKES!
That looks like the ultimate Lunatic CrushedBalls groin shot.
HOWEVER, it looks like the firing mechanisim malfunctioned. The troop loaded, closed the breach, set the firing mechanisim, slapped the breach and it went boom. I didn't see a lanyard.
I really don't have a lot of experience with semi-fixed ammo guns tho... I'm a powder-bag 155mm/8" shooter.

Blah, blah, blah.
What I didn't see was him standing to one side when he fired. Or his friends actually doing anything to help, for that matter.

True, he should not have been (bodily) behind the breach at all. But I still think the gun fired unintentionally.... (which is why you are not supposed to stand behind the breach...)
As for his friends, I dunno. Devil's advocate here, but with the filming and all, it looked like a demonstration shoot, possibly with a reviewing stand (where the camera was). The recoil could have easily knocked him into the arms/seats of a bunch of off-camera folks who had his carcass well in hand. His mates would have been superfluous.
